Yuna and Fina need a mithril knife to harvest the parts from the black tiger that Yuna dispatched, but there’s no mithril to be had. Turns out there’s an issue at the mines. Yuna goes to investigate and finds herself on what feels like a good ol’ dungeon quest video game. There are a bunch of golems guarding the mines and they seem to respawn after a little while. Other adventurers have figured out you have to clear out 2 or 3 levels of golems and then beat the final respawning golem to finally free the mine, but everyone tends to run out of mana before they get to the final boss or they just don’t make it. Yuna takes one stab at it with a group of adventurers (who of course underestimate her) and once they fall asleep she goes back to take a stab at it by herself. But the final boss is a mithril golem. Can Yuna defeat something made of mithril?
Yuna’s gaming skills and creative out-of-the-box thinking come to the forefront in this adventure. I thought we’d have more on certain businesses opening after the opening of the passage that Yuna’s been preparing, but there wasn’t much about that yet. It was all about clearing this mine, and Yuna having fun doing it. Which is nice, Yuna doesn’t get to do much just for her own enjoyment, so that was good. But the parts I like best about this series are the ways Yuna takes care of others, so I missed that in this volume. The words only story at the end was awkward as Yuna has an idea for a new picture book but it is a bit offensive to Ellalaura and Shia. At least they talk her out of it.
Notes on content: Language: About 6 minor swears. Sexual content: None Violence: Just golems being destroyed. Ethnic diversity: Yuna is Japanese. Many of the other humans appear European-ish. LGBTQ+ content: None specified. Other: The other adventurers don’t really respect Yuna until they can see for themselves what she can do and they call her bear girl and such. Yuna talks more about the god who sent her to this video game world in this one as she finds something she thinks he sent her.
