Hindi lubos akalain ni Noah na magbabago ang buhay niya when Adam, a man from the future, appeared out of nowhere.

Masungit, bugnutin, at moody, Present Adam was nowhere near as kind and charming as Future Adam. Bukod pa rito, hindi pa makontrol ng Adam na ito ang pagta-time travel niya na nagdadala sa kanya sa mga delikadong situwasyon.

But Noah knows the true Adam, and he has taken it upon himself to keep Adam safe until he falls in love with Noah.

this is another filipino bl novel that is hard to rate because i both like and hate several parts of it. as a bl, it’s good! what i love most here is the love confession part because it took me by surprise, and it’s so well done na talagang nakangiti ako habang nangyayari un. kung tutuusin nga, i was close to rating it 4 agad since lumamang ung positive vibes sa akin after finishing this. but then i remembered i have encountered several issues here that negatively affected my reading experience that’s why i took a long moment to reconsider.

the story is interesting, but i can't shake the feeling that there's something icky about it. it seems like it's grooming disguised as romance. if only the future adam hadn't mentioned to the 10-year-old noah that he was his future boyfriend, magiging okay sana ito sa akin. i wouldn’t feel weirded out. kaso hindi eh. everytime na magta-travel sa past si adam, tinuturuan niya si noah kung paano ang gagawin para matuloy ang pag-iibigan nila in the future. and there were adam’s age-inappropriate remarks too when talking to young noah, which adds to the discomfort.

when it comes to their blooming love naman, i find it believable only on the present timeline. kasi ramdam mo talagang pinaghirapan nila ung love nila sa isa’t isa . but if you try to look into it deeper, i find it sad and worrying. somehow it feels like mina-manipulate lang nila ang isa’t isa. na para bang trapped sila into thinking na sila talaga forever kasi, wala eh, un daw mismo ang mangyayari according to the future adam. parang ano, kulang siya ng pang-challenge (on noah’s part) kung magiging sila ba talaga despite any circumstances.

about the time travel thingy, i believe it was done well. not once did i feel confused sa paiba-ibang timeline. it made the story even more interesting.

the sex scenes are good also. descriptive and satisfying ang length niya. tho at times, i feel like it likes to veer onto a weird category: like ung time na nag-jump ung 30-year old adam to the present, at itong si highschooler na noah ay gustong pagnasaan ung version na adam na un. didn’t also like ung ginawa nina noah at pinsan niyang si nico to help adam activate his time-travelling powers. i think that’s a bit much and could pass as a form of microcheating na rin.

ung ano rin pala, female character representations dito ay hindi ko nagustuhan. most of them were reduced to tagatili, matic nagkaka-crush agad to a guy dahil gwapo, or source lang of jealousy. they’re underutilized here.

lastly there were several grammatical errors and typos here na sa dami ay mej bothersome na talaga for me.

yes, there were several issues akong na-encounter, but if these don’t bother you, i believe you’re gonna like this. btw, pahabol: ang isa pang nagustuhan ko rito ay ang kawalan nito ng “di tayo pwede kasi parehas tayong lalaki!” na kind of conflict, which is actually a breath of fresh air for me. talagang nag-focus ito on the romance part.

it’s a book 1 in a series, and to be honest, i’m looking forward to reading its book 2.

The time-travel element in this gay romance had potential, but the execution felt formulaic and repetitive. The predictability of the events robbed me of any emotional connection, as everything seemed to go according to plan without any real surprises.

Noah’s character lacked depth. For me, he comes across more as a ‘puppet’ rather than a fully realized individual. His attraction to Adam felt under-realized, almost as if it was taken for granted. He didn’t seem to have any motivations beyond making Adam realize their destined connection, which made his character feel one-dimensional.

The romance itself felt unconvincing, even from the start. It seemed more like the characters were manipulating each other into a future relationship rather than genuinely falling in love. The inclusion of some sex scenes felt gratuitous, and certain characters appeared to serve no purpose other than to advance the plot.

I was hoping for deeper internal conflicts and a more compelling portrayal of yearning between the characters because this is a time-travel story and time here is usually their conflict. Instead, the story felt more like a straightforward retelling of how they eventually met in the present, with little emotional resonance or complexity.

Ark and Apple (The Time Traveler's Boyfriend Book 1) Book Review!

Note: This is a Mature Book

It's about time travel and the protagonist "Noah" is destined to have his boyfriend from the future named "Adam".

The setting of the book is a rural-urban setting which plays a beautiful role in the story.

The imagery of this book! Flawlessly Well Written. I can easily imagine the scenes. Commendable. That’s the beautiful thing that is present in this book.

I love that the author applied the “Connect-the-dots” because if it is instantly inserted in there, there’s a tendency that it can be overwhelming to some readers. (Bombardment) So happy that the author does it piece by piece, like a puzzle needs to be solved.

When reading every chapter, you can gain an “Artifact” (Information) that is important to the story when you go further.

If we are going to talk about the symbolism of this book the setting. If I’m not mistaken, the author used a religious imagery “reference” to Eden. When I was reading the book, I kinda got the vibe of it.

Other Points:
The Imagery, I love the Imagery of this book! The Author was weaving using its pen to create vivid imagery.

The first thing I can remember when seeing again this book on my table. The Imagery was so well written.

WARNING: YOU SHOULD READ IT ALONE. MAYBE ON YOUR ROOM. LMAO

Spiciness Level: 4/5

Often figurative language is used in the book.

Simile
Metaphor
Personification

Symbolism is rarely used but it’s fine.

“IMAGERY” Highly Commendable!

If you love Time Travelling, Especially when it’s Gay! It is also Enemies to Lovers Trope, School Setup. Winter and Summer imagery, then I recommend this book.

Oh my Goodness. This book is worth reading.

Give this one a try everyone!

Rating: 5/5 ⭐

Waiting for the Second Physical Book!

It’s already finished on Wattpad.
I can’t read on Wattpad due to Eye Strain (Blue Radiation)

You won't regret reading this!!

Ark and Apple was my introduction to BL fantasy books. I don't typically lean toward sci-fi or fantasy, but it had BL, so I was curious to read it. I bought the book around December 2023, and let me tell you this: I am invested in Noah and Adam!

The blend of romance and time travel is clever and engaging. Adam’s condition, being pulled uncontrollably through time, is not only a unique sci-fi twist but also a metaphor for emotional instability and trauma. It adds real tension to the love story. The story also delivers an emotional queer romance without relying on the usual tropes. Noah is earnest, loyal, and hopeful, while Adam is complex and guarded, making for an organic slow-burn dynamic. Both Adam and Noah go through meaningful character development. Noah learns resilience and emotional maturity, while Adam slowly opens up, allowing vulnerability to break through his hardened demeanor.

I think one of my favorite scenes (BESIDES THE R-RATED SCENES) is when, in a brief but powerful moment, the “future” Adam shows Noah a glimpse of their life together. It’s bittersweet, touching, and serves as a guiding light for Noah in his mission to awaken that reality, and also a pivotal moment where present-day Adam is nearly lost in a dangerous time shift, and Noah makes a dramatic move to anchor him. It’s packed with urgency and showcases Noah’s growing strength and dedication.

Ark and Apple is a refreshingly emotional time-travel romance with a strong BL heart. Jomgamerland manages to balance light humor, real emotional stakes, and a gripping narrative about fate, love, and identity. It’s a must-read for fans of slow-burn queer romances and fans of soft sci-fi storytelling.

As first time BL novel reader, I was expecting that it has a similar vibe to the Thai BL series that I’ve watched in a video streaming app but it captures my overall excitement and thrill to read page by page until to the last chapter of the novel. The author has a unique style of writing, marrying two genre (fantasy and boy’s love romance) that makes the novel even more interesting and fun to read. The author also creates characters in the novel that were relatable to some of the readers especially to the teenagers. It allows readers to felt various emotions that characters were giving in each chapter of the novel. I’m looking forward to read the book 2 of this novel. Congratulations, Jom. More inspiring and heart-fluttering novels to come.

These kinds of stories have their merit and so does this book but there's just so many instances where I just found it so wildly inappropriate. Some instances were telling a 10yr old child that he's going to be his future boyfriend and reinforcing that idea several times. Kissing that 10 year old when you're a decade older and a 30yr old man telling a teen he would like to drill him. Maybe, the author should think about rewriting some portions of the book and handle things more sensitively.

This makes me look back on my 5 star rating for The Time Traveler's Wife - the obvious inspiration. It's been more then a decade since I read that as a teen, so I can't say if my rating there was because it was written better or if my views have changed since then.

If you're fond of reading time-changing settings it is good and best as it does have it. It might be confusing at first but that is the part of its drama and mystery and there's also a note what time you're set into.

Love how the author made the characters to provoke readers to be confused who's who.

Character names confuse you because it's biblical yet you'll know only the meaning of Ark and Apple when you read it.

I really loved reading this book!
Reading it made me feel a lot of emotions and I would sometimes say my thoughts out loud, which made some of the people around me thinks I'm crazy! But nevertheless, this book is one of the best that I've read so far in my journey as a new reader!💜💜💜

Ark and Apple is absolutely one of the most unique boy’s love novel to exist! The sequence of events are truly made with precision and interplay different time zones. The imagery of the setting and characters are well designed and successful serves their respective purposes. It entails the struggle of discovering one’s identity and encourage us to embrace it for the name of love for one’s self and especially to others. Furthermore, the novel showcased the concept of destiny, to trust the process, the strength to carry on, and patience for the appropriate moment in time.

I highly recommend reading this novel! Please take the time and savor the wisdom to be found. The experience I had with reading this book brought so much butterflies and laughter. I would like to thank the author for being so approachable and thoughtful to his readers. Also read the book 2, Flood in Eden!

Okay, I am not the biggest fan of fantasy romance but I decided to give this a try cause it sounds intriguing and of course, it's BL. This whole book is very keen to details, as if the author went inside the story and polished every inch of it. I loved that it wasn't just romance--not only focusing on the two of them but also giving the other characters their purpose. The imagery is flawless, like a romantic sonnet. I can imagine the scenes playing in my head like it is a movie. Each chapter is like puzzle piece waiting to be pieced together so you could get the whole picture. I am not gonna lie and say that I found no flaws in it. It has. In fact, I was waiting for something to go wrong just because I know there is no perfect craft but things eventually work out on the following chapters. It leaves me with the 'oh, that's why' feeling. Details weren't putted at the story just for the sake of being there. It serves a purpose. Each chapter leaves the readers hanging but it also satisfies their thirst of knowing what's next.

On the other side, the scene where the lead and his cousin 'pleasured' each other left me uncomfortable. Because even though they are not truly related by blood, they are still cousins and cousins--you know, don't do those kind of stuff together. Or atleast they shouldn't. There are also multiple typographical errors in the book but I would always let it pass cause the story has a good flow and I wouldn't want to miss a scene or two just because the error distracted me. Furthermore, the description of the characters' physical traits are too exaggerated for their age. Their physique can't possibly be fully toned at the young age of 20-ish. When I imagine the characters, I want them to actually look like their age. But maybe it's just me.

All in all, I love the book. I know it is heavily inspired to The Time Traveler's Wife (author's favorite) which I haven't read or watched yet but the author has given the story a different flavor. As a student filmmaker, one of the many advices that is always being told to us is that at this point, there are no original works. One way or another, one work is already inspired from and by another work. What would only make your work unique is by how the author delivers it and Jom Gamerland is really good at delivering. He's good at words and a fantastic story-teller. I would love to read more of his works. Ark and Apple is definetely a must-read.

This book follows the love story of a time traveler named Adam and his boyfriend Noah, as they embark on a journey through time to ensure that their love story begins.

The author, kuya Jom, shared on wattpad that this book was actually inspired by 4 of his favorite novels and some mangas/mahwas. Using these as an inspiration, he was able to create a wonderful story. Creating a story with a concept of time traveling is a hard challenge, how you are supposed to connect one timeline to another to be able to create a consistent and accurate story. But kuya Jom managed to do this. I liked the fact that the author didn't held back on the more mature scenes. There were also humurous scenes like where the future Adam teases the present one.

What struck me the most was the part where Adam and Noah admit their feelings towards each other. It's always these scenes that gives me the kilig vibes. Feeling mo, nandun ka talaga sa eksenang iyon. But my favorite thing on this chapter is their term of endearment.

If you're an avid fan of BL and loves to read something magical and mystical, I would recommend reading this book. Sure, it may be confusing at first because of the time stamps and such. But give it a few chapters and you'll get the hang of it.

Just finished this over the weekend and the feels still lingering on me.

If you want a read that is light and cute and cozy and warm, this is for you. The storyline gives 100% justice to both characters. It is not complicated even the theme is time travelling because it is well written and its crystal clear. I love the narra tree scene as it gives the foundation of the story where characters slowly taking significance on each other's lives. All the scenes on narra tree will have a place on my heart. 🥺🫶🏻

The special chapter is a chef's kiss for me. Nakakapanindig balahibo.

See you soon, Ark and Apple. 😉
