As you may know, I am writing a historical novel focused on the relationship between the US and China during and after the Nixon visit in 1972. Most of what I've read has been published recently, so I looked for books written closer to the time to get a sense of what people were thinking then. This was an excellent source for my purpose.

Just got this book recent and it has been really interesting and insightful so far. This book (2nd edition) chronicles the development of China from various angles from the time of the demise of Mao Zedong, right up to the Tiananmen Incident in 1989.
