Grave Justice ( Lost Souls Society #5) By Kate Allenton It's worth the wait! So much goes on! Murder, mysteries, reaper business, and Death himself arrive. There are no boring points at all in this book. Each page is packed with excitement. Loved it!
I just really love Riley St. James. She's a firecracker of a gal with rough and tumble abilities, a bit of an attitude, and doesn't back down to anybody for any reason, including Grim and especially her father, who has tried to kill her repeatedly throughout her life. I don't usually like heroines like her, but what redeems her for me is that she really loves her brother, loves her friends, and loves Adler, her boyfriend. She's got a soft heart that doesn't surface often, but when it does it's beautiful.
In this installment of the series, our psychic heroine is supposed to start training to be a reaper. Grim and her father are to be her instructors, but when Tucker (her brother) is critically injured and his girlfriend's teenage daughter is murdered while she was standing next to him, everybody's life takes a new direction and training is put on hold.
Riley is at her best with trying to find out who is responsible for this. She sees ghosts, talks to them, tries to get information, and is a victim of more than a few crimes herself. With Grim hanging around, it was inevitable that someone was going to die. I just didn't know who and it isn't revealed until the end.
This was a marvelous paranormal mystery that had me glued to the pages, guessing and then guessing again who had done what, only to find out I was wrong. The suspense was killing me. I had to know how this was going to end and I was not disappointed.
I do wish we'd had more character descriptions because it helps me connect with them, but this is still a solid five-star read.
*This is part of a series, but can be read as a stand-alone novel. However, you will miss the development of Riley, her relationships with her friends and rivals, and just some great books.
Grave Justice is my new favorite in the Lost Souls Society series
Kate has a exceptional way of telling a story. Grave Justice keeps you hooked all the way through. It has complex new characters as well as the old favorites. I loved the twist she always puts in her books and the way she added the new characters. I thought I knew who committed the murder through most of the book. I was wrong but loved the unexpected ending. This was the fifth book in the Lost Souls Society Series. I can't wait to see what book six holds for us.
Love this series.. Even though its the 5th book in the series it feels like the first with the revelations of Riley's past that are still being revealed. Can't wait to see what's next.
When Ryley’s brother is attacked close to the abduction and murder of a trenage girl, the connections go far deeper than Ryley realises. In addition to trying to figure out the culprit, Ryley is also handling some problems of her own, plus an increasing number of interactions with her father and the reapers.
Things are heating up in Ryley’s world. While her love life seems to be on solid ground, she has some difficulties separating her ghostly and professional lives, leaving her floundering a little. In addition to it all, a new acquaintance on the reaper side of things is making life a little difficult for her.
It’s a fast paced story, because Ryley is constantly on the go throughout the tale. There’s more than one mystery she is trying to solve, but it doesn’t stop her trying to help the ghosts she meets, which just adds more to her already full cup! There are also some new and rather exciting developments in this book, both for Ryley and Adler as well as her brother.
I’m looking forward to seeing what new developments with Grim occur and where Ryley is heading next on her journey. An exciting paranormal fantasy story, this one does build upon the books that came before it, so it’s not a standalone story, and really needs to be read in series order. This is a great series for those who enjoy paranormal fantasy, paranormal suspense, and paranormal mystery fiction.
Psychic Ryley St. James still sees the dead, still hates her father, loves her brother and Adler, and is also a reaper. Tonight she is to start her reaper training. Henry has promised to train her, but things are off to a bad start when her father, Doyle, and theb Death, himself, show up. Death informs Ryley that her training is canceled until further notice. Of course, Ryley being who she is, can't control her mouth and is snarky in her responses to Death.
Ryley and Adler go to the diner and in walks Tucker, Ryley's brother, who she hasn't seen in a while. She is shocked to hear that he is seeing someone, but he doesn't answer any of her questions. Next thing she knows, Tucker is fighting for his life. She is trying to find out who hurt him and why. She realizes and regrets that they have been out of touch, Will Tucker survive? Will Ryley be able to figure out what is going on?
A fast read with action, drama, suspense, and twists.
This series seems a bit... chaotic to me. Some things require a bit TOO much suspension of disbelief. Like in the first book, it would have been realistic for the police to look into how Adler's son was put up for adoption, but there was no mention of that at all.
Ryley seems rather Mary Sue-ish. She's good at everything. Even her flaws are in her favor. I like her as a character, but a bit more realism would be great.
My biggest issue is the speed at which Ryley and Adler have gone, There is nothing in the pages of these books to show them falling in love with each other. They seem to be, basically, two people who keep saving each other. Is that enough for real and lasting love? If so, let me go put on my "damsel in distress" outfit.
Sadly, my interest in this series (and writer) has come to an end. There are SO many good books out there, I can't stand to waste time on books that are lacking.
Grave Justice is a fantastic addition to The Lost Souls Society series!! While this book is primarily a paranormal suspense, Ryley and Adler are settling in so nicely as a couple. Ryley is still learning what it means to be a Reaper, but her training gets put on hold until this current case is solved. The special people in her life are all in danger and she needs everything available to be at her disposal to protect them!
I'm glad I kept going after the last book had me so frustrated. This book is much better than the last one. Doyle actually somewhat starts to have one or two redeeming qualities. In this book ryleys brother Tucker is attacked and the girl he was talking to, killed. It's all about the search for the bad guy and all the dirt it uncovers. Of course it has Ryley helping a ghost or two with unfinished business as well.
I say this with every book I've reviewed in this series, but it's true, so I'll say it again: this is an amazing series with fabulous characters and really interesting and multi-faceted story lines AND against all odds, each new book in the series is better than the last. Needless to say, I highly recommend this book and this series. I'm looking forward to starting book six. When I'm finished with this series, my plan is to go and read everything else this author has written.
This book was great! Rylee and Crews are trying to find out who murdered a young woman and Tucker was almost a victim too! There’s someone vandalizing the cemetery, a ghost who needs help and the elusive ghost of the murder victim, all vying for Rylee’s attention. I can’t wait for the next book!
I like the writing style of Kate Allenton. Her books never disappoint. Her characters are relatable even with their numerous quirks, personality glitches, and unique talents. The storylines are incredibly interesting and entertaining. I am glad to see a reintroduction of some characters I liked. This new adventure promises to be another hit.
3.50 stars This book was okay. Surprisingly, the best part of the story, for me, wasn’t the lackluster engagement. It was Blackwood’s meeting with his son Myron. That scene was so special, though I don’t understand why Myron (or Ryley) didn’t tell Blackwood who’d killed Myron since he’d revealed the killer’s identity to Ryley. It didn’t make sense to me.
I love this series. It’s more gritty than Kate Allenton’s other series and I like that she is spreading her creativity in a new direction while maintaining the supernatural focus.
This was my last one to read in this series. The focus has switched from the paranormal to a romance. Not that there is anything wrong with a romance but that’s not why I started this series. Oh well, I enjoyed the first three books.
Ryley is not taking any stuff from anyone. Her brother is hurt and mixed up in something that is deadly. She will find out and meanwhile get involved with everything else that is happening like break ins. All in a days work
Okay, I kind of like the character Grim. This book must of had better proofreading, because I can only remember one parenthesis where it shouldn’t have been. I am excited to see where the series goes next!
This is the 3rd book I have read from this author and I am thoroughly enjoying them! Highly recommend. A little mystery, romance and super natural along with great characters! Big fan
I have one question as someone who finished the book… is it wrong to have a crush on Grim?! I am of course asking for a friend. Anyway, this book was really interesting and fun. I enjoyed it very much!
I love this series! Such fantastic characters and unique story lines. I also get nervous reading this author because you just never know what’s coming. I can’t wait for more.
