Comic Book comes sleeved with our Rated Comics acrylic backer. Publisher is BOOM! Studios. BOOM! Studios' deluxe Pen & Ink collection continues with one of the biggest hits of the last two years with an in depth, black-and-white look at Stephanie Phillips' and Flaviano's Grim #1. The iconic first issue that introduced the world to Jessica Harrow returns in a stunning new format, featuring all-new commentary from series artist Flaviano.
this was a good first installment but i' interested to see where it goes. i don't normally read comics because they're so short and i'm impatient lol so i wait for bind-ups. the shortness is why this hasn't been my favorite because i don't know much yet.
Grim #1 is worth checking out. The story follows Jessica Harrow, a Reaper who doesn’t remember how she died — which sets up a great hook for darker afterlife themes and strong world-building. Stephanie Phillips’ writing brings the mystery to life, while Flaviano’s art and Rico Renzi’s neon-drenched colors make every page pop with energy and atmosphere.
This first issue has mystery, cool characters, and striking visuals. If you like comics that put a fresh twist on classic myths, this one delivers. It’s a strong debut — some character details could use more depth later, but the art and core story easily make up for it. Hopefully that’s coming, figure it will - great start!
I was looking forward to this comic because of its proposal, and it has not disappointed. Although much shorter than I would have liked, Grim #1 presents you with a world with a lot of potential that is far from what we have seen so far with regard to life in the afterlife. There were several surprises where mythology, fantasy, and black humor are successfully combined. Full review (May 9): https://tintanocturna.blogspot.com/20...
Lucky to even be alive. Well, here's the thing. . . you're Not. What the hell are you talking about? That doesn't make any sense I'm right. . . here? You're Dead
Immediately I was intrigued by this story because of it's geat title as I was looking for some horror comics/graphic novels to read and found this. Now, I don't know about other people but for me, I have certain favorite words that I always gravitate towards and Grim is one them. I reckonize the name Stephanie Phillips with her HarleQuin stories who is a favorite character of mine which also made me more interested in this Reaper series. I really like it so far although, it's not actually horrific as I would prefer.
A creative grim reaper comic that blends horror with fantasy in a way that is impossible to put down.
Grim reaper Jessica is the only reaper who doesn't know how she died. One night she unknowingly crosses over to the land of the living, which causes the balance of life and death to be thrown into chaos.
As Jessica and her closest reaper friends try to unravel this mystery, it turns out what's happening is so much larger than they ever thought. I will absolutely be continuing with this series.
💀🔪 Stunning artwork by Flaviano Armentaro 💀🔪 A kick-butt FMC who doesn't need rescuing 💀🔪 Found family 💀🔪 Terrifying monsters 💀🔪 Creative world building 💀🔪 Compelling storyline that leaves you wanting more
This book is best read while avoiding your family, you never know what they might do 👀

Jessica Harrow is a grim reaper who escorts the newly dead souls across the river of sticks to a waiting room. Go figure hell is actually the DMV waiting room. Jessica’s scyth is stolen by Adam, the soul of a drunk driver who was killed in a wreck. When she finds him and wrestles him to the ground, a police officer is able to see her. As a ghost, she lives parallel to this world, but not part of it. I liked that definition. Jessica has no memory of how she died or how she even became a Grim Reaper and that story I am eagerly anticipating. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
Jessica Harrow is a reaper in charge of bringing souls to intake, she’s done this multiple times she’s got this down. So escorting new soul Bryan Andrews should be a breeze right? Let’s just say Mr. Andrews isn’t taking being dead in stride, well now Jessica is missing something…something important and she needs it back ASAP!
This was so much better than I anticipated!! The cover is stunning, the use of the color red in this comic is beautiful! I’m just beyond excited for the rest of this story!
Ok.
Put this title on my pull list on a whim. The art is crazy and how "reapers" are like a peace core doing the work that no one wants to do. What happens when a "lost soul" steals your scythe just to see the woman he lost.
I've only read part of a graphic novel before so when I saw the cover and read the summary it piqued my interest. I liked how the story of this so far is going and the art design the author went with. I wish it were longer. I will read the next volume to see what happens next with Jessica.
A solid start. Consider my interest peaked. Let's see where this story of a grim reaper who loses her scythe then gets seen in the real world turns out!
GRIM Yea sure it is formulated and cliched but for entertainment and fun - it works! #1 – Don’t Fear the Reaper - “You are a soul and the next phase of your existence is about to begin.”
