Sonic the Hedgehog, featured in the Sega Mega-Drive games, must rescue his friends, who have been kidnapped by the villainous Doctor Robotnik. Robotnik plans to use Sonic's friends to find out the secret of his amazing powers.
This is kind of a weird one. Imagine of someone like Douglas Adams or Terry Pratchett started off their career writing 90s video game tie-in novels for kids. It's definitely channeling the same kind of madcap social satire as those writers, through a lens of very distinctly 90s "cool dude" aesthetics (with some of the social satire aging badly as a result). I enjoyed it for what it was, particularly as an insight into an era when Sega didn't tightly control their IP, but it's definitely a very acquired taste.
