I was already a “leaper” in her words, when I participated in Yesim’s coaching sessions, and it has been a year and a half since I leaped, that I finished reading her book. The book is a more detailed and a handy version of her personal sessions and having been involved in both products of hers, I can say you should get yourself a copy if you feel like you haven’t been fulfilled in your work as of late. She breaks down the process of leaving a job and figuring out what to do next very neatly. She also presents really easy tools to help you structure a clearer path and maybe mind. I wish she had written it sooner so that I wouldn’t have had to go through a six years long period of leaving my job following a ten year tenure.
A really insightful book for anyone who’s not enjoying their job and is considering quitting. The author provides a great framework for all the things that should be considered before making a big change.
Let's be honest: most of us experience a 9-to-5 job at some point in our lives. While some people stick with it until retirement, others find it unbearable and quit without a plan. For many, a 9-to-5 job is a necessity, but for some, it turns into a burden. However, if you have a clear vision and goals, quitting your job can become a more manageable and strategic decision.
"Ready to Quit Your Job" is a helpful guide for anyone feeling stuck or unhappy in their current job. The book starts by helping you understand why you're unhappy at work and what keeps you there. This part makes you think about your own fears and motivations, like feeling too old to switch careers or not knowing what to do next. It's a reminder of what makes you special and how those qualities can help you find a job you love.
Another big part of the book is about designing your future career. It guides you on defining success, creating a career mission statement, and finding the right job environment, suggesting you take a break from job search platforms to focus on what you truly want.
Finally, the book covers the mental and physical aspects of career change, offering advice on mindfulness, forming new habits, and staying healthy. It also discusses exploring new opportunities, building a support network, and dealing with unsupportive people. "Ready to Quit Your Job" ends with tips on handling resignation and navigating the challenges of making a big change.
I really enjoyed reading this book and feel I took a lot away from it. I didn’t have much desire to ‘quit my job’ and really enjoy the career I have chosen for myself; however, what I did come away with was a better understanding as to how I could enjoy it more, and why I should treasure the role I have more. The structure of the book acted as a guide, was easy to absorb and very thought provoking. I found it well researched, full of examples and references which allowed the reader to explore their thoughts further. It inspired me to challenge myself and look outside of the role I have as an employee, to understand that actually, in reality, work wasn’t really making me unhappy and there are other fulfilling things I can do about that!
Whatever your reason to read, I’d highly recommend this thought provoking text from a clearly trusted and well regarded professional in the career coaching world. Thank you for writing this book!
