Pete Magnusson considered himself one lucky guy. He inherits a farm from his crabby old Uncle Fritz. The farm is old, located in Northwestern Minnesota about an hour South of Lake Superior. Pete has discovered that his uncle buried his spare cash in coffee cans in his backyard. He planned to sell the farm, but first dig around the yard for cash cans. While digging, Pete makes an amazing discovery, a buried Viking rune stone. A slab of rock with runic lettering etched on it. Pete has an interest in Viking lore, so is able to read the rune stone. It puzzles him because it seems to read as a curse. He reads it over and over again, and by doing so break the curse awakening the evil creature that now torments him.

Excellent blend of mystery/thriller and supernatural creatures! Many twists and turns. All of the characters are very likable and you can't help but to root for them. Can't wait to read the next one
