i think i might be a bit too picky for a franchise that goes off the rails as often as FNAF does. I KNOW the short stories take place in a different universe from the FNAFSB game, but like... still.. why is ballora here. also she would never do that LOL it also pmo that the pizzaplex is drawn as a giant dome in the third story when the first story actually draws it game-accurate. like did the artists just not look at what the building looks like anyway it was a fine adaptation
These stories were...surprisingly dark. The art style is very bright and seems geared to a younger audience...but definitely dont look for happy endings here. These stories are pretty brutal. I had fun reading this one and it definitely exceeded my expectations.
Very cool. The art styles are spectacular and I was not expecting this to be THAT dark. One thing that I didn’t really like is the fact that Ballora is in the last story. These books maybe aren’t meant to be lore accurate to the games but Ballora being in the PizzaPlex actually kind of surprised me.
As there were three stories, each one will get its own mini review.
#1: Under Construction This was I don't know, bad. I feel like the whole thing just had potential ideas that could've gone somewhere but the execution I just didn't like. One of the issues (though this is hardly exclusive to this story) is these teenagers who are so kid-like with their over the top enthusiasim for Freddy's. It really made me feel unimmersed, which would be really important in this type of story. The twist also could have been more interesting, it had a nice idea, but at this point in the story I felt like what difference does it make? I can't say that I necessarily know the right course of action with the twist other than to simply use it in the plot, to have something happen with it and not have the story just end. Additionally, pacing, this story just jumps weeks, months and years at a time, which made me feel unattached to the plot or characters. This story indiviudally gets a 2/5. I can't be as harsh as to give it a 1/5, it's not that bad, but I don't really have a lot to say positively.
#2: Happs Happs improved drastically over Under Construction. The first (and very important difference) is the pacing, as opposed to Under Construction where we made massive time skips every other page, Happs doesn't skip aorund at all, it sticks in place following one continuing plot. This made me feel a lot better about the story. As a whole, I'd call Happs horror lite. It feels like a horror story, but lacks the stuff to really make scary. Happs himself as the antagonist was teased nicely, and his design hits that mark of being a little unnerving, but still believable in the context. There was nothing to take me out of the story other than the turning point of it. Clearly Happs was not something they were fond of, but As a whole I'd be lying to say that I loved this sotry, but I liked it, and it was good enough to make me feel more optimistic about the last story. 3.5/5
#3: Cleithrophobia My first note on this is the coworkers, they feel a bit childish, and really, I feel like this had me questioning the story from the get-go. Additionally, the setting, the Fitness and Flex, this feels redundant. I can understand having similar settings espcially when there are so many of these stories in the tales from the pizzaplex series. That being said, these stories were not originally put together, being in separate books in the original version. And the choice to put these two together made me disappointed from jump, which wasn't a good start. As well as the entire area and set up of the Fitness and Flex, felt extremely bland, which I think it would have felt a little more immersive, world building and all that if this had been given more enviroment. For our main antagonist, Ballora, from the cover I was intrigued. I liked her role in this, (although she seemed a bit replaceable, like she was put in here because she could be, when there is the option of Chica, who has previously been turned into a fitness guru in the Pizzaplex). Then the final comment that I have for this story is that it did not so much scare me as horrify me. It wasn't too graphic, but it certainly felt like it was riding on the violence of than actual content. 2.9/5
As a whole the collection of these three stories was okay. I liked them, and I think some really had some good ideas, but I feel like they could have been made better with some tweaks to be more engaging/immersive, and scarier. With the exception of Under Construction, I wouldn't make any massive changes to these stories because they weren't that bad (and even Under Construction I think I can still keep the core identity of, even if I did come up with significant changes). In the end these were good enough to make me not write off continuing the series, but also I think it would be worth me reading the standard book version, where there will probably be glimpses into the mind of the characters, which I think would have made them more enjoyable.
tl;dr, Under Construction felt odd for a FNaF story, but had an intersting idea, probably would've been better as a normal book. Happs was lightly scary, nice story, but nothing great. Cleithrophobia was more scary due to violence than being scary, but it works. These aren't to write home about, but they're okay.
If you're looking for some spine-chilling horror, this is a great book for you. TALES FROM THE PIZZAPLEX VOL 1 features three horrific short stories from the Five Nights at Freddy's world in graphic book format. In the first tale, Maya wants to have the best birthday party ever where she's the center of attention instead if the small backyard one that her parents throw every year. But they always say be careful what you wish for, especially if it involves breaking the rules. In the second one, Aiden and Jace are two friends who decide to take a detour through the tube maze after scaring some kids but keep running into HAPPS, the cleaning robot. But they take their fun too far and HAPPS turns against them. The last one follows Grady, a worker who tests the attractions for safety. Even though he knows he will struggle to get through the small space, he attempts them anyway for the safety of the children. To make things worse, he has horrible coworkers.
The illustrations don't skimp out on blood when it's required, so this book isn't for the squeamish, but I love how detailed they are. It's perfect for those who like dark twisted horror, like I do. It reminds me of Tales of the Crypt in a way and I feel like the short story format makes it easier to read with three times the fun. I love the illustrations and how they hold true to the style we're used to seeing from the FNAF universe. I admit, I didn't expect these to be as twisted as they were, but to me that makes them all the better. My favorite was the second one, but that's because of HAPPS. The third one was the scariest though.
Final Verdict: I would recommend this to those aged 12 and older who enjoy horror and for those who don't suffer from nightmares easily. It's a perfect addition to a FNAF fan's library. The graphic book format made the plot feel so much more immersive because it feels like you're watching a movie play out. I look forward to enjoying more stories like this from the FNAF universe.
While this book has enough competency to not get an utter one-star review, that's not saying much. I'm not a fan of the stories used for this book (as I personally don't like stories where undeserving protagonists get cruelly tortured horror-style, as they don't need comeuppance), but my rating is instead focused on the art. This is a graphic novel ADAPTATION, after all, and one that's been officially published for the FNaF franchise by Scholastic. Sadly, the art (which varies between stories, so some of these critiques are more appropriate for their own stories than for all of them) is riddled with lazy text for background signs, incorrect depictions of food, unsatisfying depictions of the action, and on one memorable panel, an instance of copy-paste that makes NO sense to the current setting. The art is indeed better than some of the previous graphic novel adaptations, and there are moments when it shines (particularly in the first and third stories), but it's not a high bar to clear.
If you really want to read this book, I recommend seeing if you can borrow it from the library.
Scott Cawthorn, amazes me as always, the dark and gory tales that he comes up with, amazing, I loved these ones, as a person with autism the graphic novels help me visualise and this one was particularly gory, I loved the last one when he was smeared all through the tubes, god I can sleep happily tonight

I mean read the novel version 1st so always interesting and bit more scary seeing pics of stuff going on. Still love lore and stories though, and never trust being in tube's with animatronicss or things under construction, lol.
I can't begin to describe how much I love this book. they got some of the best stories and made amazing a graphic novel. I would say which one is my favorite but I love all of them equally. amazing book.
Fnaf security breach is my favorite fnaf game specially because of the pizzaplex so this was right up my alley. This was a lot darker than I expected since (I think?) this is YA but I really loved it.
I actually liked this one more! 1st story was pretty easy to guess the outcome of. 2nd story: kids not following rules that are set for a REALLY good reason. And the 3rd story was my favorite. Fuck Tate. I also liked how they all connected too! :3
Super good. But there's one thing that puzzles me... How is Ballora in the pizzaplex if she was broken down into Ennard and burned down in FNAF 6 as molten Freddy? i dont know but its a really good book and i higly suggest
hey cool book, actually thoroughly enjoyed it, um this should not be ages 12 and up. Someone literally gets ripped in half. This is wild. (I'm 22) good book otherwise
If you don’t like gore then don’t read this. But if you’re fine with it then this is an amazing book full of tense senes and amazing illustrations. And good plot
another good kids read. IDK why i'm reading all of these but i'm not going to stop lol. The art style is comfy and the stories are comforting and random at times. Anyways, 9/10. Have a good day.
