The hilarious hit Webtoon is now a graphic novel! Join Saphie the One-eyed Cat and her fellow house cat siblings as they zoom, scratch, and nap their way through life. It's purr-fect for fans of Pusheen!
What exactly does a one-eyed cat do all day? Well, there's running, knocking things over, scratching things you're not supposed to, terrorizing your brothers, messing with your owner, stealing food, and generally causing mayhem left, right, and center!
Saphie the One-Eyed Cat is a hilarious look at the life of a cat that knows what she wants -- and what she wants is to mess around!
I think that this was cute and the art was wonderful; however, there wasn't much substance to it. I would have preferred for the story to build upon itself instead of it being a series of one-shots. This will resonate with young readers who have an affinity for cats!
I read this years ago when it was coming out on the Webtoon app.
It's still really endearing but something about the formatting doesn't have quite the same charm. I felt like there was weird cuts in the stories and we were jumping from one idea to the next too fast. There were lots of mini chapters about Saphie needing to be on a diet and I think they would have worked better closer together. I wasn't a big fan with how it was broken up.
I think this one is better left in the past for me, but I still liked it!
Very cute little vignettes but the kids and I all found these lacking in substance. (Unfortunately these kitties just don't compare to Sue & Tai-Chan).
I received an ARC of this book for my honest opinion.
Oh, kitties! If you are a cat person like I am, you will love this little graphic novel. Based on the Webtoon, these three little kitties will make you snort, giggle, laugh out loud, and nod while saying, “yea, my cat does that.” The illustrations are adorable and I love that this is a book about Saphie’s joy, not her missing eye. Lastly, I would totally read a whole book of God baking all the animals. A great book for cat lovers of any age or those reluctant early reading kiddos who love their kitties.
I love reading a fun and light graphic novel. I think at times these graphic novels are what keep me from diving deeply into a reading slump. Having something I can read in a day to break up more serious reads helps me to kind of feel accomplished and gives me better vibes towards reading when a slump is approaching. This time, a slump was not approaching, but I had recently DNF’d several books, and I thought it might be a good time to give this graphic novel a try. I had gotten a copy from the publisher (thank you so much for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinions), so I grabbed my copy and went to the patio to read on a nice day!
SPOILERS AHEAD
Saphie is a one-eyed cat that lives in a home with some other cats, a dog, and many humans who care for the animals. We follow Saphie in day-to-day life with some flashbacks to when Saphie was adopted.
I absolutely loved my time with Saphie and family. I have cats and have had them basically my whole life. I related to so many things we saw in this absolutely adorable graphic novel. I did notice that there will be a second one, and I can not wait to pick it up. I think it will be a lot of cat-filled fun.
Goodreads Rating: 5 Stars
***Thank you so much to the publisher for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinions.
A collection of comics/short graphic novel stories about Saphie, a one-eyed cat, and her human and feline family’s daily adventures.
This was a cute, quick read that was definitely written by a cat owner. It features things like the challenges of getting a cat to exercise and how cats react to wearing jingle bell collars. There are a few fantasy elements in that you get into the heads of the cats and there are flashback segments imagining a God figure making the cats (and Lucifer messes with one). It felt more humorous than irreverent. I definitely saw cats I know in Saphie, Simba, Sahn, and Sol. This is marketed towards middle grade, but I can see it appealing to all ages.
Notes on content: Language: None (unless heck is a no-no in your household) Sexual content: None Violence: Just cat on cat rumbles, humans daring to trim claws getting scratched, or toys about to die. Ethnic diversity: Saphie’s family appears to be Asian American. LGBTQ+ content: None specified. Other: Saphie only has one eye, but it doesn’t slow her down. Lucifer supposedly messed with Sol’s creation and she has devious tendencies.
Otherwise, a cute slice-of-life-ish story about pets, specifically the three (later, four) cats who adopted the human character (not named in this volume). A lot of the stories are the normal kind of mischief cats get into, though several have a theme of Saphie eats too much and the human tries to put her on a diet. Recommended for cat lovers!
Move over Garfield there's a new fat cat in town. This book has very relatable cat humor for anyone with feline companions. My kids saw the cover and immediately wanted to read it. The book is divided into short chapters with mostly independent scenes, like the old-style comic books. However, the story is bookended by a few related scenes. Mostly, it is a fun read, and you can pick up and read any chapter independently and enjoy the humor. This book will appeal to fans of Pusheen, Bad Kitty, and Pete the Cat.
Do you ever just want a book that's just cute. That's it just cute. Then this one is a good one for you! This is a middle grade graphic novel that's just about a cute one-eyed cat and their siblings. Just wholesome and honestly we need that with all that is happening in society now. My favorite thing about this book though is that the cats are literally created as if they were loafs. And that's just amazing! If you enjoyed the webtoon or if you just want something cute quick and easy to digest then you should check this one out.
Cats are not only the biscuit makers but the biscuits? Finally—the truth! (LOL)
This is so cute.
In this first volume, readers are introduced to the one-eyed cat named Saphie, her adopted family, and her many kitty furriends. We follow as they get up to some mischief and shenanigans.
An all-around fun read!
Purrfect for cat manga fans or readers who enjoy an easy, adorable story to chill out with~
Very cute artwork, but light on narrative. Probably reads fine if you're only absorbing one story at a time, but as a whole, the volume feels a bit....directionless? I'd have liked a bit more cohesion in the narrative.
The cats were cute and did typical cat things. I could tell that this was a web comic before being published as a book and I think it doesn't really lend itself to be put in this new format. The sections were very disjointed and didn't make a cohesive story.
This was a fun collection of comics featuring Saphie and her stories of mischief and mayhem inside the house. The animation was fun and will be eagerly reading the sequel.
Very little substance. Sort of hard to follow. Almost wordless. Miss 8 was excited by the cover and then deeply disappointed. Read about four pages and put it in our pile to return to the library.
