I found Saving Savannah to be a truly fascinating read! Patti Callahan does a wonderful job weaving historical fiction with rich storytelling, bringing the past to life in a compelling and immersive way. The historical details were well-researched, making it easy to get lost in the setting and the journey of the characters.
The story was both heartfelt and thought-provoking, capturing the struggles and resilience of its characters in a way that felt authentic. I appreciated how the historical elements were blended seamlessly with the narrative, making this more than just a novel—it felt like a glimpse into a different time.
My only slight critique is that there were moments when the pacing slowed a bit, but overall, it was a fantastic read that kept me engaged. If you enjoy historical fiction with strong characters and rich detail, this is definitely a book worth picking up!
Hole extremelywee researched and documented, I felt as if I were reading the Titanic movie script for one portion of the story. The story moved slowly and I felt like it dragged on. The modern portion of the story was good but not great. I could guess where the story was going. I did like the inclusion of scuba diving and exploring the wreck. Good historical fiction and certainly worth reading if you live on the coast in the South or vacationing in Savannah. 3.5 really due to my opinion that the authors was really invested in telling the story accurately.
Plus— best part of the story for me is when the young wife, baby, and young Slavs girl were able to escape from the abusive husband!
I wasn’t particularly interested in the shipwreck and all the history so I was a hard sell. I watched the author being interviewed, and she talked about how she tended toward lots of detail. In this book I think she outdid herself. Plus, there was quite a bit of repetition.
I loved the storyline of this book for the most part. As a historian though, I got so stuck on Everly mentioning twice that Lee surrendered to Sherman at Appomattox that I was just annoyed at the inaccuracy.
