A very rare FIRST EDITION novella entitled - Personal Effects - by the "Grunge Poet" Steven Jesse Bernstein. A student of William S. Burroughs, and also a Jazz musician, Bernstein's work however carved out his own unique niche among the hard-living, after-hours, beat writers traveling/escaping to the Pacific Northwest and reached a wider audience and more notoriety through the Grunge music scene in Seattle during the late 1980s and early 1990s, at times reciting his poetry and writings at local music shows, and even introduced Kurt Cobain's band, Nirvana, once at an early gig in 1989. Excellent writing and this is a MUST for fans of Bernstein, Burroughs, Bukowksi, Ginsberg, etc.
A very hard-to-read book, and very hard to find. as it is written in a disjointed rhythm in how Bernstein often recited his words. it is best remembered being read by himself at the very last Big Black performance in which someone heckled Steven to play "play some music" to which he replied, "This IS music, asshole!"
