I love the Little Critter books! And this was no exception.
One can think of any excuse in the world to not do homework ~ or find a zillion other things to do ~ which is exactly what happens ~ to the exasperation of Mom.
A Little Critter book that shows how children can often procrastinate when it comes to homework. I'd explain to children how it's good practice to finish your homework as soon as you can so you have time to do more things you'd like afterward.
Just a Little Homework follows our favorite character, Little Critter, as he comes home from school and tells his mom he just has a little homework to do. She tells him to get it done right away so he can play until dinner, but Little Critter does all he can to avoid his homework. He is distracted from getting his bike, to watching a TV show, until at last he finishes his homework at the very end of the day. This book is so charming and true to what really happens in every day life. Because of this, it is so relatable to children. The illustrations are no fun and I can't help but love the little mouse that follows Little Critter around everywhere. I would love to use this book in the classroom at the beginning of the year as a fun intro to how homework is going to run.
Little Critter has went back to school, and he has 'a little' homework when his Mama asks him. But 'first' he wants to do various things. But his Mama tells him it's just a little bit and he could get it done then go out and play before dinner. BUT he (like most children) get side tracked and Mama has to keep after him to get it done. But in the end Mama sits with him while he finishes it up and he loves her for it.
Little Critter has just a little homework. He gets home from school and tells his mom he has just a little homework. He distracts himself and puts off doing his homework. This is a good book. It is relatable to children that have homework.
This book can be useful as a tool when introducing homework as a new concept and reminding children it's easier to get it completed and out of the way!
Not the greatest Little Critter book, but really with Mercer Mayer as the writer, it's never a let-down.
