Late April 2097—the use of strategic-class spells doesn’t stop with the Brazilian military, as the Great Asian Alliance deploy Thunderclap Tower in the Gulf of Guinea. Magic fans the flames of war, which soon engulf the entire world. As public opinion inevitably turns against magicians as a whole, Edward Clark, a researcher of the USNA, proposes an expansive space development endeavor called the Dione Project to promote the peaceful use of magic. Taurus Silver’s name appears on the list of chosen candidates, which leads to people uncovering the truth—that this is in fact Tatsuya, throwing him and Miyuki into yet another trial.

Walls are closing in, and everyone's determined to make Tatsuya do what they want. Only Miyuki is really there for him. I'm a bit disappointed with the Yotsubas. I thought when they acknowledged him, they'd help him out.

Haven't had wi-fi when I was reading it, and now it's been too long and can't remember particulars so my star rating will have to do.

Heart-wrenching

I enjoy reading your fiction, Tsutomu Sato. This volume was heart-wrenching to me because it showed how everyone (other than Tatsuya's closest family and friends) treats Tatsuya as a pariah, as a non-person. They use him for their own causes, and are willing and ready to discard him once they believed he is too powerful for them to control. How awful it must be for Tatsuya and Miyuki to deal with the dislike their family feels towards Tatsuya on a daily basis, and to feel that intense dislike, or distrust, exponentially expanded from other magicians, and non-magicians. Also, I believe Tatsuya is beginning to feel emotions. The reason behind these people's distrust is their fear of Tatsuya's power. "What if he turns on us? When will he turn on us?"

Outside forces are closing in on Tatsuya, not through violence, but by employing international politics and societal pressure. These actions impacts his school life and forces his friends to make difficult choices. What follows is a story in which Tatsuya gets to show off, but more importantly so do his friends. As always, great world building, even if the kids get to do a bit more than makes sense, and some decent character developments, again, mostly from the gang as opposed to Tatsuya and Miyuki. Really curious what is going to happen next, since just blowing up things is not going to work...

Things are starting to get interesting as Tatsuya’s identity is slowly being revealed to the world. I was hoping for more but things were somewhat spoiled by a power of friendship moment. I am looking forward to next volume though.
