Can a notorious flirt prove to a small-town single mom that he’s more than his bad-boy reputation?
Caleb Stone isn’t ready to give up his Hollywood dreams. But after a disastrous run on a reality dating show paints him as an unapologetic player, Caleb needs a little time and space to regroup. Luckily, his hometown of Moose Falls, Alaska has both, plus a job helping his brothers run Yukon Cider. Even dialed down, Caleb’s flirtatious vibes are a hit at work, except for one woman who seems completely, totally, frustratingly immune to his charms—the gorgeous new photographer for Yukon Cider’s upcoming ad campaign.
Single mom Sophia Brand isn’t made of ice—resisting Caleb’s devilishly sexy grin is hard, especially when it’s so often directed her way. It’s just that she’s been burned by handsome smiles before. Now, she’s focused on setting a good example for her daughter, and that means not getting sidetracked by Caleb’s dazzling charisma . . . or his Hollywood abs. But as they work together on the campaign, Caleb and Sophia begin to let their guard down. Can he prove that beneath his playboy persona, Caleb is a leading man worthy of a starring role in Sophia’s heart?

Belle hopes her books will provide readers with inspiration, entertainment and an escape from day to day life.
Although this book had all the right ingredients, it wasn’t quite to my taste. This is unfortunate because I enjoyed the first book in this series. It was a five-star read for me.
When I started reading, I thought I’d read this book before; Alaskan setting, someone dying and gifting a business, siblings needing to work together for a certain time frame before a decision is made….Finally found it ~ Moose Be Love by Jacqueline Winters!
As someone who works closely with children of different ages daily, I found the age representations, era-specific toys, and conversations a bit off. I also had difficulty connecting with the characters and struggled with the pacing.
I did enjoy:
✔the tension created when the siblings needed to present a united front and they each had unique personalities. It reminded me of me and my siblings! ✔The concept of giving love another chance and of preserving a legacy
I don’t make these comments lightly; I’ve read this several times since it was gifted to me a month and a half ago and I struggled each time. I appreciate the chance to read and review. Please don’t let my disappointment influence your decision to read this book. Investigate other reviews.
3.75 ⭐️ this book follows sophia a single mom meets caleb a famous reality tv star who has moved back to alaska to help take care of his sick grandmother and learn the family business. with sophias four year old daughter her main focus has been providing for her but, given an opportunity she can't turn down she is forced to work with caleb. this was a super cute cozy romance. based off of some reviews i was a little hesitant- i liked the first book but, i think i liked this one more.
thank you to the publishers and netgalley for the ARC!
Next up in the Moose Falls, Alaska series is Caleb Stone. This charming and handsome Stone brother dreams of being a Hollywood star, but first will honor his Grandmother’s wishes - helping run Yukon Cider alongside his two brothers. What Caleb does not expect is to find love.
Gorgeous Sophia Brand’s sole focus is her taking care of her daughter and has sworn off men for good. One chance encounter with Caleb completely sidetracks Sophia. When they are hired to work together, by Caleb’s match making Grandmother, both Caleb and Sophia slowly succumb to their attraction.
A great Moose Falls surprise that I wasn’t expecting.
Flirting with Alaska is a wholesome romance with all the small town vibes and hardly any spice. I enjoyed the relationship building while considering real life aspects between the two characters. Caleb and Sophia definitely had chemistry. Perfect for those who are looking for a closed door, sweet romance. This is the series for you. I look forward to book three with the next Stone brother.
Thanks to Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for providing me with an e-ARC of this via Netgalley.
I said in my review of the first Moose Falls, Alaska book that I wanted to live right there in the cover… and I meant it. Until I saw the cover of Flirting With Alaska …there. Right there. I could be happy there forever and ever amen. In fact, I’m just gonna go ahead and start that way; could someone please ship my books? If you need me, I’ll be chatting with Hattie – the matriarch of Moose Falls and the family’s hard cider company. She’s such a spitfire and a delight to be around and, like I said in my last review, even though I know she’s going to break my heart unless a miracle intervenes I’m soaking up all the time I can with this fabulous character.
All wishful thinking aside, we are indeed back for another visit to Moose Falls, Alaska, and the charming Stone brothers. Each brother is distinctive from the others – Xavier (the hero of book one) is the athlete, Caleb has Hollywood aspirations, and Landon’s definitely on the nerdy side. In Flirting With Alaska, we get to hang out with all three brothers once more though this time the focus is on middle brother Caleb. I loved how the author frames the complex layers to his character, particularly when it comes to his reputation (and how he came to have it) versus who he truly is. His is a cautionary tale on the falseness of reality TV, of people who care more about their own advancement than about your feelings. I enjoyed digging deeper into his heart as well as watching him interact with Sophia & her daughter Lily (which is where we really get to see his authentic self). Even their ‘meet cute’ felt symbolic of this paradox to me and, whether the author intended it to be or not, I appreciated the connection I made in my mind.
And Sophia…. she is such an engaging character in her own right, and Calhoune gives her some wonderful layers, too, for readers to unpack. Photographer. Entrepreneur. Mom. Sister. Daughter. Friend. Woman in Love. She is all these things and more, and her daughter Lily is on her way to being a carbon copy. These two strong-and-tender females quickly had my heart – long before Caleb officially claimed a place there. The relationship progression between Sophia and Caleb would fit perfectly in a Hallmark movie, including the yummy kisses they share! It’s sweet and respectful and flirty, and they both grow as individuals as a result of the ways they challenge each other’s weaknesses and insecurities. Which is always rewarding for me as a reader.
Bottom Line: Get ready to steel yourself against Caleb Stone’s charms because this flirty hunk is ushering spring into Moose Falls! Except you won’t want to resist him once you really get to know his heart in Flirting With Alaska, and that’s in large part due to the compelling layers that Belle Calhoune created for him. Sophia Brand equally delights, as does her precocious daughter Lily and the other members of her family that we get to know on these pages as well. Combined with the vibrant personalities of the Stones, too, and Moose Falls itself, this ensemble cast delivers an entertaining story from beginning to end! Looking forward to Landon’s story, and I don’t think we can count out Red & Daisy just yet either.
Reviewer’s Note: Followers of my reviews may want to be aware that there are a very few mild curse words scattered infrequently throughout this novel.
(I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book)
Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This is the second book in the Moose Falls, Alaska series. I really enjoyed the first book and have been looking forward to the second book coming out. It can be read as a stand alone, but I recommend starting with book one. Flirting With Alaska was cute, but didn’t quite live up to my expectations. A lot of the dialogue felt silted and awkward to me.
The prologue was awkward and didn’t feel like the thoughts of an eight year old boy. I felt like it set a weird tone for the rest of the book. Caleb just wasn’t my favorite MMC, especially when compared to his brother Xavier. I did enjoy Sophia and thought her and Caleb were cute together. My favorite character is Hattie. She really makes the series for me.
Overall, an okay romance. I think my opinion was swayed by other books by Belle Calhoune that I absolutely loved and this one just wasn’t the same for me. I still look forward to reading the next book in the series.
Another sweet and clean romance by Belle Calhoune! The setting of Moose Falls, Alaska, provides the perfect backdrop for love! This is the second book in the series, but it can be read as a stand-alone.
There are a ton of familiar characters! The three handsome Stone brothers are wonderful! Their brotherly bond is strong and true. Hattie is still a fire cracker! She doesn't let her illness stop her from living life. Sophia is amazing! She's a strong, sexy, successful single mother! I enjoyed seeing Caleb grow and mature throughout the story!
I really liked that Caleb was able to talk to his father about their painful past. As he learns about a distressing secret, he feels closer to Red and ready to listen to his heart.
I was provided a complimentary copy of the book from Forever/ Hatchette Book Group via Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I signed up for this ARC when I saw Alaska in the title. I loved The Simple Wild and can't get enough of the home buying shows set in Alaska. I was hoping for a love story set in the gorgeous north. I got it, but it didn't quite work for me.
Sophia is a single mom and fan of all things reality TV. When Caleb Stone moved back to Moose Falls, Alaska with his two brothers, he put his dreams of acting stardom on the back burned since his grandmother Hattie left him and his other two brothers her business, Yukon Cider. Sophia knew of Caleb from his time on reality TV, but as she gets to know him she learns he's not quite the guy he was portrayed as on the reality dating show he was on. And he is trying to open himself up to Sophia after having been burned previously. Can these two let go of their histories to make it work with one another?
I wanted to like this, but I just didn't. At all. The beginning of Caleb being an 8 year old lothario felt gross. The Sophia/Donny/Lily plotline felt completely pointless to the story. I thought it might go somewhere, but it just felt added to give some depth. It all felt rushed and sort of phony. Just not for me at all.
This was such a heartwarming and sweet read. The storyline and characters were well-written and made you feel like you knew them. The story had a meddling Grandma Hattie and I loved her. Caleb and Sophia are adorable together and had sweet moments. I enjoyed every moment of this book especially the wonderfully romantic ending. It made my heart happy. A great addition to this series.
This was a sweet story that followed Caleb and Sophia as they fell in love. Overall I thought the story was cute. Very classic Hallmark plot line. If that’s your thing then this book is a great winter read. Thank you to the publishers for a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Thank you NetGalley, Forever (Grand Central Publishing) and Belle Calhoune for the ARC in exchange for my honest feedback.
3.5 stars, rounded down.
This is the second book in a series about the Stone brothers, who come back to Moose Falls after a 20-year absence to run the family business. Their grandmother, Hattie (who I loved) is terminally ill and wants the heirs of her hard cider company to work there for one year before deciding if they want to sell, or continue to run it.
Until this deal with his grandmother and brothers, Caleb was in Hollywood, trying to make it as an actor. His recent stint on Love Him or Leave Him has him labeled as a cheating bad boy, and that image has followed him since the show ended.
Sophia, a single mother of the adorable Lily, is an avid watcher of reality TV, so she knows Caleb's reputation when he rolls into town. But as they get to know each other, she can't understand why this sweet, generous, loving man was scapegoated into such an evil character.
I didn't read the first book in the series prior to reading this one, but it works as a standalone.
I liked the premise of the story and the development of the characters. I also really enjoyed the MCs' relationships with their family members, especially Caleb and Hattie, and Sophia and her dad, Skip. For the next book, I'm curious to learn more about Landon because he was a bit of a mystery in this book!
FLIRTING WITH ALASKA by Belle Calhoune is the second book in the Moose Falls, Alaska series. It’s the wonderful story of Hattie Stone’s three grandsons as they try to come to a unanimous decision concerning the outcome for Yukon Cider – Hattie’s business that’s grown into a thriving company and a major boost to Moose Falls, Alaska. Sophia Brand joins the equation as she becomes Hattie’s choice to head an ad campaign for a new product by advertising and promoting the company using her exceptional photography skills in print ads and commercials.
The Stone brothers’ parents divorced when they were young. Their mother, Daisy, moved the boys from Alaska to Arizona cutting off all ties with everyone and everything in Alaska. Now after a 20-year absence, four months ago the three brothers returned to Moose Falls at Hattie’s request. With a terminal illness, she reached out to them asking them to learn about the business from the ground up for the span of one year. Then they had the option of either take over the company she’s built from ground up or to sell it. It must be a decision they all agree on. Time is running out for the three of them to make a decision. Xavier, the oldest and a former NFL player, is engaged to the owner of the local tavern, True Everett. Caleb is Daisy’s middle son, who always had his heart set on being an actor in California. Unfortunately, his first stent before the camera on a reality show back fired on him – both professionally and personally. He’s determined not to give up on his dream, but his desire to please the grandmother he’s grown to love and admire also takes center stage with him. One thing for sure, women are not on his radar. He’s not going to let anyone derail his plans again. Landon is the baby of the family. While quite smart, he’s also more of an introvert and content to be working than to go out on the town.
Sophia Brand divorced her baby’s father 4 years ago. Since then, with little to no help from him, Sophia’s been on her own to raise Lily. She’s blessed to have had her father to lean on and her sister as her on call babysitter. Living in a small town, she’s barely getting by. Getting the call from Hattie offering her a job was heaven sent. The only problem is having to work with Caleb, commonly know as the Love Rat ever since the reality show airing. To provide for her daughter, she will make it work. She’s positively not going to be one of hundreds to drool over the handsome hunk. Or will her opinion of the man change once she finds out what really happened on the reality show and more about the man behind that handsome face?
Hattie Stone is considered by many as the grande dame of Moose Falls. She’s definitely one not to go by other’s rules and isn’t scared to speak her piece. Having been on dialysis for years, she knows now her time is limited. She has two mottos – YOLO (you only live once) and I’m dying, but I’m still living. She also has Jacque (boyfriend – paramour, chauffeur & majordomo – jack-of-all-trades) that she can depend on. Her wish is to live long enough to see her grandson’s happy whichever decision they make.
Will the Three Musketeers, as the Stone brothers think of themselves, decide to keep and run Yukon Cider or will they sell it? When they vote, will they all agree? Will Sophia uncover who the real Caleb is? Will Caleb’s feeling for Sophia and Lily grow? If so, how will it affect Caleb’s decision? Will Caleb remember his mother’s words – Dreams were hopes wrapped up in ambition? Is Caleb willing to forego his dreams of being a Hollywood actor? Will being the spokesperson for Yukon Cider be enough for him?
FLIRTING WITH ALASKA is an exceptional story that will have you quickly reading each page and chapter to learn more about Caleb, Sophia, and Hattie, while they explore their feelings about the past, the present and the future. Belle Calhoune gives us a story of following one’s dreams (even if some seem the change direction midstream) - opening yourself up to learning the facts and not listening to face value and impressions - family dynamics, while aren’t always perfect can often be a work in progress - love of family, friends and for that someone special - and finding out what you say will never happen may end up be exactly what you dream of happening. FLIRTING WITH ALASKA is FIVE STAR reading that I can highly recommend to everyone! Although part of a series, it can definitely be read as a standalone book. There’s enough in the story to bring you up to speed on things from the first book. I’m now super excitedly waiting for the release of the third book in the series. I’m hoping it’s Landon’s story.
I receive a copy of this book with no requirement or expectations of a review. All opinions are completely my own. #flirtingwithalaska #moosefallsalaskaseries #bellecalhoune
The need to protect yourself can also shut out joy.
This book picks up near where the first one ended. The three Stone brothers are celebrating the engagement of their older brother Xavier to True in their own inimitable way. Then middle brother Caleb spots Sophia. Boom. Instant attraction. What he doesn't realize at the time is that it's mutual but, well, it's also complicated. Sophia, photographer for the event, has been hurt before and has a four year old daughter that is "the love of her life" and Sophia isn't looking for romance. Actually, Caleb isn't really looking either, his Hollywood dream is still supreme, but, well, he's attracted. He follows Sophia to the attic when she goes there to retrieve an old camera Hattie, who brought the Stone brothers home in response to a plea given her oncoming death, has given her. Caleb is used to being able to charm women almost effortlessly but it isn't working on Sophia. I won't give away what changes that, well, at least allows her to warm up to his ways, but it might be classified as a meet cute, albeit rather itchy one for Caleb.
A closed door romance, actually almost chaste, this is a sweet one. You ultimately know they'll come together in the end but the fun is in watching them overcome the obstacles before the finish line. While the book works as a standalone, if you have the chance, reading the first book will give you more insight into the situation the independent find themselves. As an Alaskan, I'm always up for an Alaska based read, so while this one didn't knock off my socks, it was still a pleasant, light read that I enjoyed. The characters were likable and some relationships carried over from the first book show advancement, too, including the parental characters. Sophia is cautious, putting her daughter first, and also has to deal with 4-year old Lily's father, who seems to take two steps backwards for every step forward he makes in that relationship. Bottom line, though, he does love his daughter, so I cut him some slack. The relationship between Caleb and Sophia is relatively open and honest although Sophia's innate need to protect both herself and her daughter from further hurt keeps her from throwing caution to the wind and just accepting the relationship Caleb seems to offer. He has his own regrets, of course, and it was nice to see him bonding with family. Hattie....I cannot say enough about her. Her strength is what seems to hold everything together and it's delightful to see her happy in her remaining years. Other characters flit in and out but these are the core of the story. The ending is cute and romantic, too.
Bottom line, while I questioned a few things as an Alaskan myself, the book overall holds together and the characters were likable. I think in real life I'd avoid spending much time with the boisterous Stone brothers together but that doesn't make them any the less likable. If you like sweet, closed door romances, you'll probably like this one and you're almost sure to love Hattie. Thanks #Forever - #GrandCentralPublishing for allowing me to share some of the Stone Brothers Alaska, even if I still haven't sorted out the area where Moose Pass must be located.
Sophia already has the love of her life: her four-year-old daughter, Lily. She's not looking for a man for anything - unless it's to photograph him for work. Caleb Stone is still reeling from a reality show stint that left him dubbed "The Love Rat." He still wants to fix his reputation in Hollywood, but an agreement with his brothers has him working in Alaska for another 9 months. He's not interested in women there, unless it's his terminally ill grandmother, Hattie. But when Sophia and Caleb get trapped together during a party, will they re-evaluate those decisions and scratch the itch for more? Or is that itch just from the ants in the attic crawling up Caleb's pants?
This is a sweet cozy story that is the second book in what I'm guessing will be a three-book series. You don't have to have read book 1 in order to read this book, though. I liked the way they main characters grew together, and I really appreciated when they were honest with each other about fears, life experiences and hopes/desires. The side characters are great, like Sophia's sister and dad, and the others of the Stone clan.
As the wife of an Alaskan, and someone who's been to the Last Frontier many times, unfortunately the incorrect Alaskan references in this book (and book 1) really frustrated me and brought down my rating. Of course this is fiction, and there is willing suspension of disbelief, but some references were so off as to pull me completely out of the story.
If you're looking for a sweet clean romance, this is a quick fun read. Just maybe take the Alaskan references with a grain of salt?
Spice level (scale of 1-5): 1 (kissing)
Stars: 3.5 rounded to 4
My thanks to Forever and NetGalley for the opportunity to review this book. All opinions here are strictly my own! :)
This is the 2nd book in the “Moose Falls Alaska Series.” Flirting With Alaska is about Stone brother number 2 Caleb but all three brothers are mentioned throughout “Flirting With Alaska”. Sophia is a up and coming photographer and single mom to her adorable 4-year-old daughter Lily. Remember Caleb is the brother who has his heart set on becoming a famous Hollywood actor. He was on a reality TV show where he was painted in a bad light known as the “The Love Rat” where he allegedly become involved with twins. Caleb has fallen hard for Sophia but is still undecided whether he will be staying in Alaska or returning to the acting scene. Hattie is the matriarch of the family that brought the Stone brothers back to Alaska to take over her business Yukon Cider. Caleb is having a hard time dealing with past issues with his father Red. As Caleb and his dad finally have the long-awaited discussion family issues are revealed about Daisy his mom and dad Red. Caleb has a better understating about the situation between his parents. Sophia has trust issues from her ex-boyfriend Lily’s dad. Sophia and Caleb are enjoying their time together and are getting closer. Sophia and Caleb are good for each other as they have both been hurt in the game of love. There are obstacles in their way but the two are gaining their footing on the right track. Hattie is holding her own and everyone is still very much concerned about failing health.
Two Stone brothers down older brother Xavier, middle brother Caleb and one to go younger brother Landon. Landon is the youngest of the Stone brothers and a scientist whose reputation was ruined due to allegedly plagiarizing his work. Awesome series, loved the characters and the plot that had me laughing up a storm.
I received an ARC via Netgalley and Forever (Grand Central Publishing) and I am leaving my review voluntarily.
Caleb and Sophia’s story is a sweet and charming romance. I love the small town setting, the close knit families and the support given to Caleb and Sophia . Caleb and Sophia are opposites in many ways. She is an introvert who prefers to be behind the camera, while he is most definitely an extrovert who loves to be in the spotlight and in front of the camera is his happy place. He loves to socialize, she does not. He is unattached with no one waiting for him to come home, while Sophia has a four year daughter, Lily, whose father basically abandoned them.
They both have guarded hearts and they are not looking for love or a relationship to complicate their lives. Both would do anything for Hattie, his grandmother, which is how they end up working together. Sophia struggles to pay the bills with her job as a professional photographer, so she can’t refuse Hattie’s offer just because she doesn’t want to work with Caleb who has the reputation of being a player and not taking life seriously. As they work together, they discover the other has hidden depths, a tender heart they try to keep hidden and a past hurts that still haunt them. Both begin to realize that their feelings go much deeper than ever expected, but they are unsure about what to do next. Trust issues and insecurities seem to make moving forward impossible.
I loved their chemistry, the friction between them that soon turns into a deep connection, and the evolution of their feelings from dislike to love. Hatty is a wonderful character who is determined to see her grandsons happy and settled before she dies. She is a masterful matchmaker. The close relationship between the three brothers, especially the teasing, adds to the enjoyment of this book. I will definitely recommend this book.
I am thoroughly enjoying the Stone brothers, each different but equally compelling. When I began this second book in the trilogy, I fully expected gorgeous, charming, middle brother Caleb to be my least favorite of the three but this hero has layers I had yet to discover. Much like Sophia does throughout the course of their journey.
Sophia and Caleb both carry emotional baggage from past relationships that continue to intrude on their present lives. In Sophia's case, it's the father of her daughter who suddenly decides he wants to be a part of his child's life after ignoring her since birth while for Caleb it's not only the unresolved issues with his estranged father that have significantly impacted his life choices but also a highly edited reality television show that painted him in the worst possible light, a light that Sophia, along with most of the country, believes is true. I enjoyed watching the layers slowly peel away and reveal truths about both of them. I especially enjoyed watching the endearing relationship between Caleb and Sophia's young daughter evolve. Nothing tests the true measure of a man, nor exposes his flaws, like babysitting an active four-year-old. In young Lily's eyes, Caleb is more than worthy but what will Sophia think?
If you enjoy sweet romance set in small-town Alaska with complicated family dynamics, a close-knit community, well-developed characters, and an elderly grandmother set on bringing her grandsons home and seeing them happily settled, give Flirting with Alaska a try. It will stand on its own but I think you'll enjoy it even more if you read Falling for Alaska first.

Flirting with Alaska is a closed door romance and the second in a series by Belle Calhoune.
Caleb Stone left Moose Falls Alaska as a child. His mother packed up Caleb and his two brothers and fled the unhappy marriage she was stuck in. After relocating to Arizona, Caleb thought he would never set foot in Alaska again.
After a disastrous stint in reality tv and being labeled “the love rat”, Caleb jumps at the chance to reunite with his grandmother, the matriarch of the Stone family and creator of Yukon Cider. After a terminal illness diagnosis, she calls her grandsons home to take over the family business.
Sophia Brand is a single mother and professional photographer. Sophia is hired to develop the Yukon Cider as campaign featuring Caleb Stone. Sophia cannot deny he is gorgeous and makes for great photos but knows better than to get involved with the “love rat”
Caleb and Sophia start to spend more time together both at work and personal time. After Caleb saves Sophia from having to turn down a once in a lifetime photographer gig, she begins to realize that perhaps the tv producers made Caleb out to be something he isn’t.
Caleb has sworn off love after falling in love on the show and having it blow up in his face. He also has no plans to stay in Moose Falls once his contract at Yukon is up. As Caleb spends more time with Sophia and her 4 year old daughter, he begins to think he’s exactly where he should be.
This is a sweet closed door romance. Very similar to the first one and includes the same side characters as the first one. This is a 3.5 rounded to 4 star read for me! There is one more brother, so I’m looking forward to reading the last book!
Returning to Moose Falls, Alaska, we're reunited with the charismatic Stone brothers, whose distinct personalities shine brighter than ever. Xavier, the athlete, Caleb, the aspiring Hollywood star, and Landon, the lovable nerd, each bring their unique spirit to the story. In Flirting With Alaska, we delve deeper into Caleb's character, discovering a rich complexity that's both captivating and relatable. The author skillfully reveals the authentic Caleb, beneath the surface, in a beautiful portrayal of self-discovery. This narrative serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of authenticity in a world where reality TV often blurs the lines. As Caleb forms genuine connections with Sophia and her adorable daughter Lily, we witness a heartwarming transformation. Sophia, a multifaceted and inspiring character, brings depth and nuance to the story, alongside her daughter Lily. Their chance meeting serves as a powerful metaphor for the paradox of reality versus authenticity. The blossoming romance between Sophia and Caleb is a masterful blend of sweetness, respect, and playfulness, as they challenge each other to grow and overcome their insecurities. Caleb's charms will undoubtedly captivate you, and the beauty of his heart, as revealed in Flirting With Alaska, will leave you enchanted. Thanks to Belle Calhoune's exceptional character development, you'll be swept away by the vibrant personalities of the Stones, the captivating town of Moose Falls, and the unforgettable Sophia Brand and her daughter Lily. This talented ensemble cast of characters delivers a story that will uplift, inspire, and leave you feeling hopeful and empowered.
Thanks to NetGalley and Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for the ARC of *Flirting with Alaska* by Belle Calhoune. I’m giving it 4 stars. This was a fun, closed-door rom-com with a cozy, small-town vibe. I was particularly drawn to this book because I live in Alaska, and it was exciting to see some descriptions of the state I call home. The author did a great job capturing the charm and beauty of Alaska, which added an extra layer of enjoyment for me as a local reader.
The chemistry between the two main characters was engaging, and their banter felt natural and fun. I appreciated how their relationship developed—it felt genuine, and the playful moments kept the tone light and enjoyable. This is a sweet romance that avoids some of the usual dramatic pitfalls, and I liked that the closed-door aspect allowed the story to focus more on emotional connection.
My only minor issue was that this is the second book in a series, which I didn’t realize until I was already into the story. Although it can be read as a standalone, I did feel like I was missing some context and character background, which made me wish I’d started with the first book. It didn’t take away from my overall enjoyment, but I think I would have gotten more out of it if I had the full series experience.
If you’re looking for a lighthearted romance set against the gorgeous backdrop of Alaska, this is a great pick!
I absolutely fell in love with Moose Falls, Alaska and all its inhabitants earlier this year after reading Falling for Alaska. I was so excited to return to this small town, this time with the middle Stone brother Caleb and the town photographer Sophia.
Even dialed down, Caleb’s flirtatious vibes are a hit at work, except for one woman who seems completely, totally, frustratingly immune to his charms–—the gorgeous new photographer for Yukon Cider’s upcoming ad campaign.
I wanted to like this as much as the first but unfortunately it was way too repetitive using phrases such as “swollen head”, “big girl panties” and “you boys sure kept your mom busy” more times than I could count. This one was more descriptive while the first in the series actually used feelings to place you right up there in the mountains with the characters. Also the third act breakup was extremely immature/silly/frustrating and took away alot of brownie points from this rating.
Overall, it’s still a cute easy read and I enjoyed an update on some of my fav characters but it wasn’t very memorable. That being said, a third is coming next year and I will more than likely still read it.
I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley and am voluntarily posting a review. All opinions are my own. Flirting With Alaska is the second book in the Moose Falls series by Belle Calhoune. The book works as a standalone, although both books have similar vibes, and there’s some character overlap, with the MMC of this book being one of the previous book’s MMC’s brothers. The family dynamics, as well as the cozy small-town vibes, are some of the highlights of the series. Caleb is generally just as likable as his brother, and I enjoyed the balance between him following his big Hollywood dreams and devotion to his family’s business, as a result of his grandmother’s illness. And the further exploration of the Stone brothers’ estranged father through Caleb was also quite well-done, especially as he has a serious discussion with his father about their past. Sophia is also pretty interesting, if a little closed-off initially. It comes from an understandable place, however, given she’s been hurt in the past, and I admire her focus on her young daughter. I did like the dynamic of her generally trying to resist Caleb’s charm. I loved how they got under each other’s skin, and navigating a second chance together. This is a sweet, cozy read, and I’d recommend it to readers looking for a diverse, low-heat small-town romance.
Flirting With Alaska by Belle Calhoune is the second book in the Moose Falls, Alaska series. Sophia and Caleb get top billing, and the beautiful backdrop of Alaska sets the stage.
The prologue is set in Arizona and has Caleb front and center. But being a chick magnet at eight years old didn’t sit right with me. It’s now twenty years later, and Caleb and his two brothers have returned to Alaska as their grandmother has a terminal illness and not long to live. We see the brothers learning the ropes of the business they are set to inherit with a few caveats. We also witnessed the interactions with each other, with Hattie, with their significant other (if they have one), with kids, exes, and others.
There are multiple stories within the main arc, and I like that we are reunited with characters we’ve met before. The characters have depth to them, and their layers get peeled back a little at a time. There’s some choppiness to the story, but it was a quick read and held my interest. There is a happily ever after with a twist, but the story ends abruptly to me. There were some loose ends, and I hoped we would get a sneak peek at how their lives turned out.
Flirting With Alaska is a contemporary romance filled with warmth. Sit by the fire with your hot chocolate and get to know the lay of the land.
I fell in love with Moose Falls, Alaska in the first book. I also enjoyed reading about the Stone brothers. These guys have a lot to decide about their future. The entire family is in this book, but this is Caleb's story. I liked Caleb, but I did not connect with this story as much as I did the first one. That is not to say the story was not good, but the romance was just handled differently.
Caleb has come home with his tail between this legs after a disaster on a reality show. Everyone thinks he is a player, including Sophia Brand. She is a single mom who is a photographer. When they get stuck in a situation which causes her pain, she sees another side to Caleb. She realizes that maybe you cannot believe everything you see on a reality show.
The romance was sweet and the characters were very likable, but there was just something I could not put my finger on. Hattie is still my favorite character with her sass and her zest for life while battling a terminal illness. Little Lily was quite the character as well. I did enjoy this book, but I think the romance needed a little more buildup. I will continue to read this series, and this author because I enjoy her books, and I am completely in love with this charming town.
Thank you to Forever (Grand Central Publishing) and NetGalley for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
We are back in Moose Falls, Alaska with author Belle Calhoune’s newest, Flirting With Alaska. It’s been a few months since the three Stone brothers have been back to work at their grandmother’s Yukon Cider for a year, time to decide if they will take it over as a team, or walk away. Caleb Stone still has big dreams of Hollywood, but is still nursing a disastrous run on a reality tv program. Branded a rat, he wishes people would see the real man beneath the edited one the world saw. Single mom and photographer Sophia Brand has been hired to shoot Xavier Stone’s engagement party. She didn’t plan on finding some chemistry with Caleb Stone, the rat she watched on tv. She can’t possibly turn her eye towards someone like that! But due to Caleb’s formidable grandmother, now she and Caleb have to work closely together. Is it possible her tv-bred assumptions are wrong? They both have some baggage, but with the Lord’s help (and Hattie’s), can they come together not just for the job, but for forever? I was hooked from the start and read this in one day! This is a “grab a cocoa, a cozy throw, and settle in for the duration” kind of read. Plus it has my favorite, an epilogue! I received a complimentary copy of this book, but my opinion is entirely my own.
Flirting with Alaska by Belle Calhoune is the second book in the Moose Falls, Alaska series. It continues where the first book left off, but I feel it could be read as a standalone. Caleb Stone is still recovering from his disastrous appearance on a reality show. He feels he will never work again and his player status will live in infamy. Sophia Brand is a single mom trying hard to make a better life for her daughter, Lily. She is not really impressed with Caleb when they meet, but wonders if she has it all wrong.
I am so invested in this series. It was fantastic to get to know Caleb and revisit the other Stone brothers. Caleb and Sophia had good chemistry, a sweet friendship, and I enjoyed how they both matured in the story. The setting is fascinating and me considering travel to Alaska. I love the strong independent female characters who believe in loving their families well. I appreciate the themes of forgiveness, second chances, and family.
This is a delightful clean romance with interesting characters, sweet romance, and a fascinating setting. I look forward to the next book in the series. I highly recommend. I was given a copy by the publisher and not required to write a positive review.
Flirting with Alaska by Belle Calhoune is book #2 in the Moose Falls, Alaska series. It was so nice to be back in Moose Falls. The first book follows the first and oldest brother Xavier Stone. This one centers around 2nd and middle brother Caleb Stone. All Caleb wants to be is an actor, but a stint on a reality show a few years earlier gave him a bad reputation. Then he meets Sophia Brand. She's a photographer and a single mom. The two start working together. Where they both discover that there's more than meets the eye with each other. I really loved this story. It's book #2, but you definitely can read it as a standalone. Sophia and Caleb had such a cute relationship. They had easy funny banter, but a serious side too. I cried at the end at the epilogue. I felt this was a very realistic portrayal of "life happens." I enjoyed reading about the other characters from book #1, too. It was a great continuation of the lives of the Stone brothers. I'm so looking forward to book #3. I can't wait for baby brother to find love and maybe these three can decide what's in store for Yukon Cider. I was given a copy, but all opinions are my very own.
