From an experienced nutritionist and bestselling cookbook author, 50 simple recipes for homemade health-supporting tonics, elixirs, and juice shots to boost immunity, combat inflammation, improve sleep, aid digestion, increase energy, and more. There's a reason why functional health drinks, like the ones crowding every grocery store shelf, have become so popular. Unlike “Eat the rainbow,” “More fiber,” and “know the superfoods”—advice that can feel so difficult while juggling the myriad demands of modern life—health shots provide a one-and-done solution to achieving our nutritional goals. But they are also mass-produced and come with a hefty price tag. In Health Shots, nutritionist Toby Amidor offers a better, more affordable way—50 recipes for tonics, tinctures and shots that support health with minimal processing, minimal cost, and maximum benefits. Formulated to address a range of wellness concerns--immunity, inflammation, brain health, sleep, gut health, anxiety, energy, and healthy hair, skin and nails—these recipes are as easy to make as they are delicious to drink. Amidor covers the basic tonic techniques include juicing, blending, straining, and steeping—with an overview of food safety, and how to take tonics as part of a healthy eating plan. Each recipe also contains a “tonic tip” providing additional insight on key ingredients, substitutions, or what to do with leftover ingredients to minimize food waste.
This is a nice collection of drinks you can mix up as quick shots to take for a variety of issues like immune boosting and memory aid. There are photos of each but no nutritional information. You will need a blender and juicer for many. Others are heated and a few use teabags and additions like ginger.
I incorporate a lot of these ingredients into my daily intake through things like tinctures and a morning keto health powder I stir into my coffee (ingredients like turmeric, cinnamon, cacao powder, rosehip powder, wild mushroom powder, black pepper, etc that I mix up in a jar ahead of time) but these are so quick and easy I can do them daily. I don’t know how many of these shots I would honestly make regularly since I would have to get out equipment like a juicer, multiple ingredients, time and steps. Other than that it seems like a good resource, though I really wish it included nutritional information.
I read a temporary digital copy of this book for review.
Thanks to the publisher for this gifted book; I am so happy to share my honest opinion!
📖 Book Review 📖 Sometime in my late 30’s, my body became super sensitive to what I put in it and inflammation took over. I worked out, tried to eat healthy but I was just not myself…thanks to work with a registered nutritionist I figured out what was going on and got on a path to a healthier me. But I’m still human and need a nudge (or an amazing cookbook) to get back on track). Health Shots is full of amazing and easy recipes paired with lots of knowledge that will help get that inflammation in check and have you energized in no time! I am excited to explore and save my favorite recipes and then pass on the wealth of information to the community in my LFL
I received a free ebook copy from NetGalley in exchange for a fair review.
