Marshall Family #2

This Much Is True

Rate this book
When celebrity Laina Kelley bolted from her small hometown church on her wedding day, she ran to the first place that came to mind—the home of the local farrier, a gorgeous playboy who just so happens to be her first love … and biggest frenemy.

USA Today bestselling author Adriana Locke delivers a new “sweet and spicy!” standalone romance about a runaway bride who finds herself in the arms, and horse barn, of her deliciously handsome frenemy—who just so happens to be her first love.

This isn’t your average romance. It begins with me in a wedding dress, just not at an altar …

I never expected to be a runaway bride. I also never thought I’d end up on my ex’s doorstep to flee from said wedding. Now that I’m here, it’s easy to find the key in an old boot by the door and let myself inside. It’s not breaking and entering if I have a key, right?

It’s safe to say that Luke Marshall didn’t expect to find me on his couch in my wedding dress, my veil over my face in tears. He has no choice but to listen to my panic-induced plea for salvation. It’s only a matter of time before the tabloids get wind of my disappearing act, and my life is over.

Luke takes pity on me and says I can stay… on one condition.

I can’t sing for my supper—I have to earn it. I have to work in the barn alongside him, up to my elbows in horse manure. Oh—and because there’s only one bed, I get the couch.

This works … in theory. However, when sparks start flying, and the small-town farrier asks me to stay, I’ll have to decide between my life as a pop star or a second chance with my first love.

Second chance stories are typically my go-to but they are often DNF’s because people just can’t ever get them right. This one was no exception and even though I didn’t DNF, I did struggle to finish it and it took me several days to do so. Why? Because if you give me a story about two MCs who are childhood BFFs/first loves/soulmates, then don’t have them move on with OP and don’t spend so much time telling me about the relationship with those OP. This is after all a story about the two MCs and the focus should have been on them and that epic love they have for each other. What we actually get here is a "friends" vibe with some horny moments added and voila you have a romance(?).

Story.

H & h met & became BFFs at age 15 and lovers from age 17 to 24. It was mentioned that heroine lost her virginity to Hero but nothing about Hero. In the present, they are both 30 yr olds.

At age 24, heroine’s career as a singer took off and it became hard for them to keep their relationship going but heroine didn’t want to give up. It was actually the Hero who ghosted her because he didn’t think he was good enough for her. So six years go by and heroine is set to marry OM but minutes before their I Do’s, she runs – straight to Hero’s home and lets herself in.

The rest of the story is pretty much boring as nothing really happens other then the two of them immediately renewing their BFF relationship as if no years were lost and then towards 80% or so, becoming lovers - with heroine constantly acting horny. She literally went from the OM’s bed to Hero’s with no remorse or anything and didn’t even have the gall to breakup with OM first. She ran from the wedding and just assumed that was all she needed to do to break things off.

So I can’t say this is an insta-love type of romance since they had been together for so many years and in love before and apparently never stopped loving each other (can we give this a rest people???) but it still read as such because all I got from this story is that heroine in particular was constantly horny and wanted to jump Hero at every turn. Okay then….

As for the OP mentions, Hero’s past was not delved into as much as heroine’s. All we get is a paragraph that he dated a “nice girl” on & off for years and that he had broken things off six months prior because she was not the one for him. OW never came into the picture and heroine never asks or learns anything about her or others he had been with. She assumed he was with others and it didn’t bother her.

Ditto for Hero. In the present, Hero knows that heroine is engaged and marrying the OM in their hometown. On the day of her wedding, you would think since this is a 2nd chance/never stopped loving you trope that he would be jealous, upset, angry, etc to the fact that heroine is marrying some other man. But no… We never get any jealousy from him at all. No feeling betrayed or something that she moved on, or even asking her how she could still love him and yet think of marrying someone else.

They have a “friends” vibe for most of the story and then for the last quarter or so there is sex added and suddenly we have a romance? Uhm…NO.

As for the OM mentions, heroine spent a lot of the time thinking & discussing the OM. Most of it was how he used her and she allowed him but there are inserts of how attractive she found him in the beginning and how much fun & sexy he was, etc. They lived together and it was never mentioned how long they were together but it seemed to refer that they were a longterm couple.

Anyhoo, this is more then I wanted to delve into. Suffice it to say that it was not for me.

Heroine on OM:

“I was convenient for him,” I say. “I helped him reach his goals. I bolstered his public persona. But there was little respect there. No fun.” I gulp. “No sex.”
“Tom isn’t a terrible human being,” I say. “He’s no saint, but he’s not the devil. Mutual friends set us up, and it was great at first. But then I went off on tour, and he went off making movies, and we weren’t really around each other all that much. A weekend here, a couple of weeks there.”
“It didn’t hit me until this morning that we would be married. I would be attached to this man who I barely knew, a man who I hadn’t had sex with in six months. A man who if I had to start dating all over again, I would pass. How could I marry him?”

----
Heroine on Hero:

“We dated from the time we were seventeen until I came to Nashville. It was just a few weeks before my twenty-fourth birthday. Then we … I don’t know, tried to make it work, kind of. For a couple of years, we talked off and on, and I’d come back to see him every chance I got.” A lump settles in my throat. “Then things really took off, and I couldn’t come back anymore, and he never came to see me. Things just kind of ended.”

-----------
Hero on heroine:

.Laina is, without a doubt, the love of my fucking life.
She’s unlike any woman I’ve met—a perfect ten in every way. She’s gorgeous and beautiful, talented and hilarious. Sweet but a spitfire. Predictable yet mischievous. Laina is headstrong and determined, too, but none of those qualities are what I love most about her.
What makes it impossible to move on from her completely is that I like her.
I like her as a person. I respect the hell out of her. I enjoy being with her, even when we aren’t having sex—maybe even more when we aren’t in the bedroom.

---
“Let me ask you this,” he says, smirking. “What would you have done if you had broken in here and my wife was in my bed?”
“I would have questions.”
“Such as?”
My grin grows. “I would’ve asked you why you never showed pictures of your wife on social media.”
“I mean, I get that you use your page for work, but you could still show her every now and then,” I say, laughing too. “I’m always suspicious if a man is married and his girl doesn’t show up anywhere with him online.”

This was a short but very sweet second chance romance involving a mega star FMC and the small town man that she left behind. There wasn't a ton of angst in this one which I didn't mind. It was basically a rekindling of what they both were feeling for each other. It was a nice quick read!

Laina has found herself in the worst situation. She is about to marry a man that she can't stand. He makes her feel less in every way. She decides to take a stand and ditches him at the altar. She can't think of anywhere else to go except Luke's house. Luke who she dated and loved for 6 years. Luke who she experienced most of her firsts with. Luke who still has his house key hidden in his boot on the front porch. She really hasn't thought this through though because seeing him and thinking about/stalking him on insta are two very different things. What if he is with someone? What if he doesn't want to see her again? I mean he ghosted her all of those years ago so maybe he doesn't care.

Luke is completely caught off guard when none other than Laina is in his living room when he gets home from work. HIS Laina. The Laina he let get away and has regretted ever since. She has left her fiance and decided the only safe place to lay low was with him...here...at his house...in his clothes since all she has is her wedding dress. He decides right away that even though she is here she will have to leave, and it isn't worth getting hurt again. But he has been miserable since she left. So maybe he should take a stand and make her feel important and loved. And that folks is exactly what he does. Their spark rekindles right away and even though they both deny it they know that this is more than a little thing. This is THE thing.

I hadn't read book 1 but didn't really feel like I missed too much. I do think I will go back and read about the other Marshall- he sounds like a grump LOL.

Thank you to Adriana and her team for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review! I hope yall enjoy :)

"It's not breaking && entering if I have a key, right?" 🤭 Famous singer, Laina, is officially a runaway bride with nowhere to go until she thinks of the one person that will keep her safe. Luke, aka hottie farrier, comes home from work && finds Laina on his living room couch still in her wedding dress 🙈 Will these two long lost lovers fall right back into each other's arms?

When I tell you this book is laugh out loud funny, I truly mean it! Adriana had me chuckling constantly with the banter between Laina && Luke. The love these two characters have for each other is unmatched && don't even get me started on their chemistry 🥵 The definition of a perfect second chance romance 🥰 There may also be little surprise cameos from characters we already know && love 🤫

Thank you Adriana && Valentine PR for the privilege of reading && reviewing this ARC copy. The story was such a "hug in book form", just like you wanted! ❤️

So many of my favorite elements in this one! A sweet, small-town, second-chance romance with strong sibling bonds and a found family element is the perfect romantic reading escape!

Laina Kelly left Peachwood Falls to make it big in the music world of Nashville. One hugely successful career, millions of fans, and a Hollywood A-Lister fiancé later and she's back home for the wedding of the century – her own. Except the bride changes her mind about the whole marriage thing and runs, ending up the only place the public won’t think to look for her, at her ex, Luke Marshall's house.

Imagine his surprise when Luke walks in the door and sees the girl who's always owned his heart sitting there in her wedding dress. As Luke and Laina spend time together, they realize all those feelings are still there, but life is not that simple. He's a small-town farrier with no intention of leaving, and Laina's life belongs to everyone but her.

This gifted wordsmith is one whose work I’ve come to trust implicitly, and I loved returning to Peachwood Falls. With cameos from characters from other series, it feels like one big fictional world, and I love the dynamics of the Marshall family. Their interactions are hilarious, but their warmth and love is something Laina has only ever found with them.

Funny and charming but sweet, steamy and heartfelt, this is one of my new favorites. Run to the 1-Click and start reading now. I guarantee your romantic heart will thank you!

4.5 stars!

This is a gorgeously sweet second-chance-romance. A huge pop star on the run from her wedding flees to the only place she can think of – her home town, and the man she left behind. It’s an easy, fun read, with a beautifully natural and swoony romance, and I loved it so much!

You can read this as a standalone (I did), but it does form part of the Marshall Family series, and follows on from More Than I Could.

Laina and Luke fell madly in love as teenagers, and were together for six years before she left town to pursue her dream of becoming a singer. Now, her life is unrecognisable, and she’s about to enter what will undoubtedly be a very toxic marriage to a huge movie star. Desperate for escape, she flees to the safety and anonymity of Luke’s ranch, and though they haven’t spoken in years, he welcomes her with open arms.

“I told you once that I would always be here for you. I meant it. And you don’t know what it means to me that you knew that.”

Away from her life and all of the external influences which pressure her every day, Laina finds a freedom she hasn’t felt in years. Though Luke tauntingly puts her to work cleaning out his stables, she finds peace and comfort in his quiet life, and the two of them quickly re-establish the closeness between them, opening up about their lives and revisiting their past. The banter and flirting is so good, and there’s still SO much chemistry between them.

“I didn’t know you knew how to cook.”
“You haven’t seen me in a long time. I can do lots of things that you don’t know about.”
Our gazes collide as soon as the words come out of my mouth. The corner of Luke’s mouth tugs toward the ceiling.
“I may have you prove that,” he says before walking away.

They know they were the love of each other’s lives, and there’s still a wonderful openness between them. They’re honest with each other, they’ve missed each other, and neither of them are too shy to put their feelings out there. They don’t hold back, and oh how my romantic little heart was swooning.

“I want nothing more than to carry you upstairs and show you exactly how much I’ve missed you,” he says, searching my eyes.
“Please do.”

It’s sweet, sexy and so blissfully easy, and I felt so much watching these two come back together.

“I’ve had many life experiences since I left this town, but none of them feel the way I feel when I’m with you.”

They do have some hurdles to face, and have to deal with the challenges that exist outside of their happy bubble, as well as figure out what the future looks like for them. But, rest assured, this is an angst-free read with no unnecessary drama, and I loved watching them figure it all out.

“I understand how different our lives are and how each is important to us. But I can’t just be exiled from your life again. I want you – I’ve always wanted you. Not a day has passed that I haven’t wanted any part of you that you’d give me.”

As with most Locke series, there is a great family introduced in the Marshalls. They are a close bunch, all up in each other’s lives, and I’ll be diving into the first book for older Marshall brother, Chase, and I’m looking forward to more from this fantastic bunch.

Such a gorgeous read, I loved this book – 4.5 stars!

Guyyyyssss Luke is my new favorite! Idk what it was about him, this book, and Laina but man! I fell fast and hard. I smiled and laughed, but also cried. There’s just always something about a second chance that gets me. And Laina trusting and knowing Luke so much that she knew she could go back. Gah, guys this book, like seriously! So freaking good! Oh and one of my favorite parts of all of Addy’s books are how so many beloved characters fit into and are wrapped in neat and tidy bows for us to love too!

─ ARC review

★ ★ ★.75/5

So this story follows a famous pop singer Laina and her ex boyfriend Luke she was supposed to marry a man she can’t stand and she ditch him and run away from her wedding and break into her ex boyfriend’s house… and I love her for this she’s so strong and knows what’s best for her

And a hot farrier Luke… and kind of grumpy man he’s AMAZING! and the way Luke is helping Laina and as Laina said to him that he is a green flag so he really is… and idk what i am writing in this review but I really enjoyed reading this book it was short but kind of sweet and fun read! I loved the book!

I loved Lucke’s bond with his brother Gavin…and Laina and Stephanie’s friendship as well I love how supportive friend Steph is
Gosh I’m sucker for genuine friendships (in books and I know recently I’m saying this in every review lol)/ genuine relationship between siblings and friends like they don’t want to steal their girls *evil siblings/friends y’know* so I loved that… Gavin is great brother (SOMETIMES I WANT HAPPY READS AND NO PROBLEMS OR STRESSING OVER CHARACTERS 😂🫢)

Important note: sometimes I really suck at writing reviews:(

I received this as an Arc and I read it in one setting!

So Laina is a musician and she is fixing to be married to another celebrity.
However, she realizes that she can't marry him and leaves before they go through with it.
I loathed the guy she was going to marry by the way.

So she takes refuge at the one place she feels safe, her ex's house. The man she was in love with since she was a teenager. Luke.

This book, yall, I loved it so much.
It's so sweet and comforting and the two main characters have amazing chemistry and light up the pages.

It's available on Kindle Unlimted and I would 1000 % recommend everyone read it.
It's amazing.

I was provided an ARC of this book via the author and Valentine PR, all opinions are my own.

This was such a heartwarming book. It was sugar, and spice, and everything nice. Laina is a pop star and on the day of her gigantic, carefully curated wedding she goes into hiding. She goes to the one place she has always felt safe because right now she knows that getting married is the wrong choice and she is exhausted from playing pop-star Laina and never getting to turn off the act and be herself. Her life has become nothing but a business proposition to those around her, and she just wants a bit of the small town life she had before she was famous, surrounded by people who love her and care about her. Enter Luke Marshall, Laina's former best friend and boyfriend. They were the prime example of right people wrong time. They parted way when her dreams took her away from the small town, and his dreams kept him there. He finds Laina sitting on his couch in her wedding dress hiding from everyone she knows, and promises to help keep her hidden and safe until she decides what to do next. The pair quickly rekindles their friendship as if a day hasn't passed and it is clear that their past feelings have never died. I appreciated that they have a history and a past relationship, so it doesn't feel like they instantly fall for each other. Luke treats Laina with respect and tries to give her the normalcy she craves. He puts her to work in his horse barn, tells her stories about his family and the people in town, and listens to her as she tries to figure out her life.

I thought the character development in this was great! There is some miscommunication but it is quickly resolved as level heads prevail. Laina decides what she wants and needs, and while she doesn't have all of the answers, she takes the first big steps to do what is best for her not what is best for her image and the pocketbooks of her team. I really liked that Luke went to his older brother for advice. The sibling chat was hilarious and endearing. I hope we see more Marshall group chats in the future. This was awesome and I loved it!

This does read as a standalone despite being labeled the second book in the series. If you enjoyed getting to know Luke's family, his brother Chase also has a book. I am hoping that all of his siblings get books! I love Adriana's family series, they are so fun and you quickly get invested in the characters! This also features characters from the Mason family series, and I highly recommend those as well.

I was also provided an audio arc of the book and the narration by Shiloh James and Lance Greenfield was wonderful! They do a great job bringing Luke and Laina to life. I really enjoyed their narration and could listen to them both all day. You could feel their emotions come through. You may want to grab some headphones as this is NSFW

Adriana said “I wanted to write a hug in book form,” and that’s exactly what this was! I absolutely loved this one!! I was smiling & giggling like a school girl throughout every single page. And the spicy parts! 🥵 Laina & Luke were each other’s first love, but when Laina’s singing career took off, things ended. Years later Laina is near her small town home, supposed to marry a terrible movie star and decides to run to the one person who has always made her feel safe; Luke. Luke is the perfect book boyfriend! He is sweet, charming & hot!! 🔥 And Laina grew to be so much stronger with Luke supporting her. My favorite by Adriana so far, but I will be reading everything she’s ever written!! 📚

Thank you Adriana Locke & Kim Cermak from Valentine PR for the ARC!

This was my first time reading Adriana and i can't be more happy. This book was like a perfect and necessary breeze in my face of pure cuteness and love.

Luke and Liana are just the perfect complement for each other, no just like a couple, like friends, confidents, and the safe place for go when everythings goings horrible.

The relationship they have, the confident, and the love is just…. *chef kiss*
This book, have a lot of excelent things: A good Humor, lots of friendship, tons of love and the perfect doss of spicyyyyyyy.

WE ALL HATE LIANA’S DAD RIGHT? AND TOM TOO, RIGHT? Because they are AWFULLLLL

I felt so happy, and relaxed reading this book. I totally needed something sweet and no necessary drama for read. Adriana makes a wonderful work in this book, and all the love she putts in her characters you can feeling in her words

Besides... As a reader, whose first language is not English, I can totally assure that this book is perfect to start reading in English. The vocabulary is totally understandable and you can read all the words easily without needing to translate them.
Give it a chance, trust me.

It's not necessary to read the first book in the series to understand this one, but it's clearly much better if you do, the Marshall brothers (and sister) are hilarious.

Thanks Adriana for create this book, and this characters, they have a huge place in my heart

Give me all the small town romances and I’ll be a happy reader. “This Much is True” is a fun, flirty, and sweet second chance romance set in a small town that was such a fun read and a great addition to the series.

Laina Kelly is a famous singer and on her wedding day, she realizes that she doesn’t want the life that will come with this marriage. With the help of her security, she escapes back home to Peachwood Falls. And to her safe place, with her ex-boyfriend Luke Marshall. Luke is a farrier and has never forgotten Laina. He’s surprised to find her in the house when he comes home but he promised to always help her and does now. The two still have the connection they had all those years ago and this might be their time for their HEA.

I loved this book and found myself smiling throughout this whole story. It's a fun and light story which is just what I needed. Laina is so genuine, sweet and I loved her from the beginning. It might have taken until the wedding day to find her strength but it was the push she needed to leave and do what she wanted. Luke is swooning and I loved how easy going he was. He was happy in his small town and with the career he built. You could tell the two had missed each other and they still had the connection they did back then. The story is low angst and has the perfect amount of tension until they finally decide to get back together. The two had great banter and their chemistry was sizzling. Luke’s brother, Gavin, had me cracking up and I can’t wait for his book, I just know he’s going to fall fast and hard. The ending was perfect for them and I can’t wait for more from the Marshall family.

This Much Is True is the second book in the Marshall Family series by Adriana Locke. Just imagine if the girl who got away showed up in your living room as a runaway bride from her wedding to a Hollywood A Lister. That is what happens to Luke Marshall. His ex-girlfriend, Liana Kelly, had left him to go on to become a country singer, but he had never stopped loving her. When Liana needed somewhere to hide from the paparazzi, the only thought she had was to turn to Luke for help. It didn’t take long for the old feelings to re-emerge, but things were still complicated. Liana had a big life. She needed to go on tour and perform and needed security to keep her safe. Luke was the local farrier and had no desire to leave their hometown. The two had to figure out what was most important to them and how to reach for what they really wanted. This was a much lighter book than many that I have read lately and was a welcome change after reading Ruby Tears. There aren’t any huge conflicts or third act break-ups. Neither of them shy away from their feelings. It is a second chance love story where two people realize what they lost and have to figure out how to make their current lives work while being in them together. It was light, fun, flirty, a little bit steamy, and just right. If you are a reader who enjoys contemporary second chance romance stories, then you should give This Much Is True a try. It is an easy, breezy read and I bet you won’t regret it. I took a minute to appreciate and love this book for exactly what Adriana says it is in her Author's Note: A fun reprieve from daily life, a hug in book form. Not every book has to be heavy and angsty and she didn't write This Much Is True to be, so let's call a spade a spade here.

This book was just what was promised. A fun, light, easy to read book about singer/songwriter Laina who's gut is churning on her wedding day back in her hometown in Indiana. She up and leaves without telling a soul, only to land on the doorstep of her longest and most meaningful, friend turned boyfriend, Luke. They're stuck together in his home while the media firestorm goes crazy, fall back in love, and live happily ever after.

This book wasn't particularly twisty or turny, but packed the Addy big family vibes we love to read. the 5 Marshall siblings all make an appearance through visits and/or text messages and keep the banter high and exciting. I haven't read Chase's story yet but it's been added to my TBR! I don't know if I'll ever love a family like I love the Landrys.. but the Marshalls are a lot of fun!

Overall, this was a great palate cleanser book. It kept a smile on my face and was the perfect length at 200 pages. I was glad that the book didn't take too much time on building any tension, and the tension burst quickly and moved on. Super fun, super cute, super easy to read. I loved the childhood friends to teenage lovers to adults forever vibes!!

Thank you so much to Adriana Locke and Valentine PR for the ARC of This Much Is True!!

📍“You are very impressive, Ms. Kelley. I’m sure you intimidate a lot of people. And that isn’t your problem.”

So, do you ever associate songs to books? Because I’ve been singing Getaway Car since I picked this one up 👀

“You were drivin’ the getaway car 🎶
We were flyin’, but we’d never get far 🎵
Don’t pretend it’s such a mystery 🎶
Think about the place where you first met me” 🎵

Okay, Luke was not the one driving the getaway car but she did runaway. And they sure did make far 😜 details, details.

What matters here is that I adored this book. It was such the right book at the right time kind of situation. Because sometimes you don’t need angsty or complicated. You need real and fun. You need heartfelt and cozy. And Luke and Laina were a coming-home-hug 🥹

📍“Because one thing is clear to me. My happiness only exists with Laina Kelley.”

I didn’t see that betrayal coming. Boo. That hurt. 😢 But we sure need more momma Marshalls in the world 🥹

Small Town, second chance, chemistry galore and that amazing family dynamics that we're used to with Adriana's books.

Prepare to be swept away by This Much Is True! This book is a journey through love, passion, and self discovery.
When famous singer Laina flees her own wedding and seeks refuge in the comforting arms of her high school sweetheart, horse farrier Luke, sparks fly immediately. Their shared history of love, torn apart by Laina's demanding career and her money-hungry father, sets the stage for this sweet story.

Laina's struggle for independence and Luke's supportive family, filled with quirky siblings and devoted parents, provides an entertaining backdrop as he and Laina navigate their rekindled feelings.

The chemistry between Laina and Luke is palpable, igniting the pages with steamy and passionate encounters that will make you melt. Their journey is not just about rekindling lost love but also about rediscovering themselves and what truly matters in life.

This Much Is True is a captivating tale of love overcoming obstacles, perfect for fans of second chance/small town romances with a touch of heat and heartfelt emotion.

Wow. This book was so so so good.

I finished it and instantly went to add book one to my tbr.

This was the most perfect second chance romance and I was hooked from the beginning to the end.

I absolutely loved watching the FMC coming into her own, standing up for herself, and discovering her true self, with the help of her found family. I got Britney Spears cutting her Dad out vibes and I was all for it.

The MMC was so book boyfriend worthy and I found myself rooting for him the whole time. I loved his protective personality and how caring he was to those in his life.

You get:
• Spicy
• Dual POV
• Contemporary Romance
• Runaway Bride
• Childhood Friends To Lovers
• Celebrity
• Second Chance

I highly recommend that you pick this one up ASAP! Available on Amazon through ebook, paperback, and audiobook.

Laina and Luke are what second chances are made of! Their love and connection could be felt from the second they reunited!

Adriana always has a way of weaving heartfelt stories filled with non stop laughter but true honest to god love! The love felt in this book is unlike any of her previous books. You could feel just how much Laina and Luke belonged together.

I loved the brutal honesty these two had with each other and the way they just knew one another and what each needed! The way Luke healed Laina’s pain and became the rock she needed took my breath away!

Also a Locke book isn’t complete without a cute town and hilarious siblings and this book has it all and more…because Troy is the bodyguard we all need in our life!

Sweet and spicy! This is the first book I’ve read by Adriana Locke and boy, did she not disappoint! This Much is True combines my two favorite genres: second chances and small town romance. The chemistry between the two main characters, Laina and Luke, is H-O-T! I can’t wait to read more of the Marshall family!

I don’t like to say this very often but for me this book didn’t work. I want to say that my intention is not to criticize the author, because I think her writing might be awesome. But this book specifically didn’t work.

Why the review then? Because I didn’t feel connected at all with characters, I was reading because it was a quick and chill read.

The book is short and that’s why I’m not used to not have that much build up between characters and think their relationship was too quick and also the miscommunication being unnecessary. Also, this was a second chance, and for me those can be a hit or a miss, depending on the plot.

Maybe in the future, I’ll try another book of her because I loved Laina’s bodyguard 😍 and I hope he has a book ✨

Nonetheless, I want to say thank you to Valentine PR and Adrianna Locke for an opportunity to receive this book as an ARC and in return to give my honest rating and review 🫶🏻

This is a short, sweet and swoony second chance romance for Luke Marshall and Laina Kelley. Mega pop star Laina flees on her wedding day and ends up at the home of Luke, the one she left behind. Luke has always loved Laina but he let her go to pursue her dreams. He can’t pass up having her in his life and home again.

I enjoyed this story and was glad to see Laina and Luke get their happiness. It’s pretty much angst free except for her dealings with her terrible ex-fiancé and father. Pure toads. I have read book one, but did feel that this book could be read just fine as a standalone.

Thank you to Valentine PR and the author for an advanced readers copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This Much Is True was exactly what Locke wanted it to be. It’s a witty, flirty, and sweet second chance between a popstar and a blue-collar hero. Locke’s blue-collar heroes and family series always set her apart from others, and This Much Is True, well, proves that to be true.

Laina is back in her small town for her very public wedding, only to realize there’s no way she can possibly go through with it. When push comes to shove, there’s only one place where she can seek refuge; it just happens to be at her ex’s house. It’s not just the farm and land away from prying eyes that make it a sanctuary; it’s the arms and the presence of the first man she ever loved.

Luke Marshall walks into his house and is knocked for a loop as the blast from his past sits on his couch, wearing a wedding dress. She’s the one who got away, and no matter what he has to do, he’s not letting her go this time. He offers her a place to stay and a new hope that he may just be able to get a second chance with the woman who holds the key to his house and his happily ever after.

Laina and Luke’s second chance starts with a runaway bride and a minor (ish) felony, and that was all it took for me to be completely enraptured. The moment Luke steps on the page, the air sizzles with the connection they share, and it only gets more intense from there. Laina and Luke were as witty and entertaining as they were sweet and spicy. This Much Is True is the perfect blend and offers hours of lighthearted escape for your mind, and the emotions stay wrapped around your heart like a literary hug hours after you’ve finished reading.

I’m in love with the Marshall family. Locke has an endless number of family sagas, and she always gives them their own quirks to make them stand out from the others. The one thing they all have in common is that every member, no matter how insane they may make one another, is teeming with unconditional love for one another. Locke always manages to make my hardened heart all mushy long after I am forced back to reality.

If you are looking for a book that’s low-angst, featuring adults who behave as such, teeming with banter, and laughing out loud shenanigans, then you NEED Laina and Luke’s story in your life. If you haven’t read any of Locke’s books, go one-click her first, then prepare to binge. After you admit you’re obsessed, you can come back and thank me.

I will never take for granted the magic that happens every time I open Locke’s books. Whether you’ve met them before or they are brand new characters, they feel like family, and the world feels like home. Whether it’s a country star or a rancher, a small town sass or a big city girl boss, her characters are all relatable. The families she creates are what we all aspire to be a part of or build on our own. I can’t wait to spend more time with the Marshall family!

Thanks to Addy and her team at Valentine PR for early access to this one. These are my honest thoughts.

I read this book in one sitting, without reading the first Marshall Family book. I love the famous person/normal person trope, and this comes with a side of second chance that I adored. It's a quick but SUPER SWOONY read about two past lovers who are thrown together because the bride (country singer and fmc of this book) literally runs out on her wedding two minutes before she's set to walk down the aisle in her hometown, and runs straight to her ex-boyfriend's house. The key's in the same spot. The ex isn't home, but when he finds Laina waiting on his couch, you know from his response that Luke is A GOOD GUY.

Things I loved about this book:
- forcing a famous country singer to clean horse stalls in the barn
- the pacing
- LUKE'S NICKNAME FOR LAINA + THE TATTOOOOOOOO OMG
- the dual POV which gives the reader insight into how the main characters are feeling about each other
- the respect between the characters
- the found family
- Luke's family group chats and sibling shenanigans
- Laina ends up being a badass by the end, in huge part because Luke helps her find that confidence that went missing
- SO MANY ADDY EASTER EGGS

While I loved this one (particularly the spiceeeee that was sort of unexpected but totally worked), I missed some of those feelings. It had very little tension and angsty (which is GREAT). I'm giving this one a 4.25 star rating, because it sort of missed it for me on the feeling side of things (this could also be because I just read Nothing But It All by Addy this month and I felt that book in my SOUL). HOWEVER, that's not to say I didn't love it and will go back and read the first in this series/future installments in this series!

Out today! :)

This is the second book in the series but you can read it as a standalone. It’s a short but sweet romance & it was A.M.A.Z.I.N.G!!

Honestly, it was unputdownable!

🌸 𝗥𝘂𝗻𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗲

🌸 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗦𝗺𝘂𝘁
🌸 𝗗𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗸𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗙𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿/𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗛𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗿𝘆 𝗙𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆

Laina is a pop star & running away from her wedding. She needs somewhere to hide, so she ends up at her ex’s. Luke, her ex, lets her stay with him but not for free. He puts her to work on his farm. Now that they are spending time together feelings start to resurface & they begin to get closer & it’s clear that they still have feelings.

Laina’s growth is incredible. She may be rich & “have-it-all” but she wasn’t happy & she hadn’t been happy for a long time. Her now ex was horrible & her dad was not much better. When she & Luke reunite, Luke helps her regain trust. Luke is willing to fight for Laina & do anything to keep her safe & make her happy.

This story hit me in the feels. Luke & Laina deserved their happily ever after. The chemistry between these two was intense, to say the least, & the steam in this book packed a punch & I was here for it!

I’m excited to see future books and couples in this series. This entire town/world the author is creating has me intrigued & I can’t wait to see what the author has up her sleeve, if it’s anything like the last two books, I’m sold!!

All in all, the characters & relationships developed between Luke & Lania progress at the perfect pace & I was hooked from the beginning right through to the very end. I absolutely LOVED this short but amazing love story!

This was a fun quick read for me. Lots of banter and characters from previous books, although you can read as a standalone. This is Luke and Laina’s story.

The MMC, Luke Marshall, was Lainas old boyfriend when they were growing up in their small town. Laina was always destined to Be a singer / songwriter and wanted to make it work long distance… it didn’t work out that way.

Laina Kelley is now a famous pop star, singer and song writer. She’s engaged to Tom, however on her wedding day she realizes this is not what she wants, and leaves him at the altar. Not knowing where to go at the moment she heads to Luke’s .

Luke and Laina were first loves. They fall back into a routine and eventually realize that love never went away. They have to try and navigate a relationship where he’s in the small town n she’s still a pop star. I love how Laina also decided that enough was enough and she was putting her life in her hands and creating her path and not her dad’s choices or anyone else’s decisions but hers.

This was such a quick fun read and the banter was also great. Thank you to valentine pr and the author for allowing to read in advance
