Was this a cute lil summer read? Yes.
But, do I wish I had read the previous book before reading this one? Definitely, YES!
This was a super cute novella but because it was so short (about 60 pages) and we were just jumping straight into things, there was definitely a slight feeling of disconnect. Now before you think, ‘well, duh, you should read the first book’, I was told this could be read as a standalone. Which it could… but I think I’d have liked it much more if I had read the previous book.
Don’t worry, I have the first book saved up on my kindle TBR and will get to it when I finish my current reads.
Other than that I tried to be fair in my rating.
I thought the couple (Janey & Ian) were super cute and even the slight cheesiness was adorable. For such a short read the author managed to pack in quite the storyline, that while a bit cliche, it still gave me all the movie rom-com vibes I absolutely adore.
May need to give this another read once I read the first book. And maybe my rating will change. But for now - 3.75⭐️

Janey’s and Ian’s continuing saga with humor, angst and suitable ending
There is no cliffhanger! Each story thus far is a standalone; the stories are simply another adventure of theirs. In this one, it starts six months later from their last book. (I would recommend reading that one but it is not necessary for enjoyment of this book.) Janey is going to meet Ian’s very British Mum. Oh man, this could go so many different ways…
I love these short rom-coms dedicated to this couple. He is a college professor and she is a bakery owner/operator. He has a PhD and she studied culinary arts. They are both very good at what they do, but will Janey’s ownership be enough to sway Ian’s Mum who is always on a diet?! Take a look-see. If you like short and entertaining rom-coms, you will want to read this one. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book through BookSirens.

This was ok… not even sure it qualifies as a novella. It wasn’t sufficiently long to have any real character development, and as such the characters were a bit two dimensional. I liked that Janey had a bit of backbone and stood up to her boyfriend’s mom, but otherwise the story was a bit bland.

I would try another book from this author though… I feel like there’s some potential here. Even though it says these are stand alone, maybe it would have been better had I read the first book first?

Thank you to Book Sirens for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This was a fun, easy and quick read. There was a solid storyline and the characters were explained well and carried off the scenes well.

Jane's character is easily pleased and always trying and giving into her boyfriend's (Ian Chisholm) mother or to appease her constantly. Mrs Chisholm was a cold and it seemed like a conniving mom for the most part and still didn't have her figured out. Ian, he is the genuine deal for Jane.

I am really into this recent trend to intentionally make stories low-stakes. It's such a relief to wade into a beach-side low-stakes story like this. All of the potentially stabby things just... didn't stab. The big bads were only petulant or awkward, not evil. The relationship misunderstandings were immediately resolved.

LaMonte does a great job with allowing this mother-in-law to be absolutely TERRIFYING (beige lands-end model from HELL), and then giving her some complexity and depth.

And the interactions between the main couple were ever so cute.

As lovely as a PNW beach stroll!

This book was cute but I think you should read Book 1 before reading Book 2 because I felt like I was missing something.

Janey is about to meet her boyfriends mother and it doesn't go very well. His mother is rude which is quite the contrast to him. It seemed to lack character development for some which could be because it was so short.

If you just need a cute beachy read pick Book1 & 2 up and I am sure you will enjoy it.

A fun, short and sweet novella. Great characters, I love Janey and her boyfriend, Ian. His mother, not so much. This was a cute and entertaining read with just enough drama and humor to keep you entertained. A very enjoyable book.

A super short and light read. Janey's vacation isn't what she suspected it would be, but she tries to make the best of it.

Even though I hadn't read the first book in this series, which would definitely help, the chemistry between Janey and Ian was strong.

Thanks to Booksirens for the free ARC. This is my honest opinion.

A very cute novella that gave all the swoon vibes.

Relatively quick read (was finished within an hour). I really loved Janey & Ian's relationship, their banter was hilarious and made for a quirky couple. A great rom-com palette cleanser read. Would read a longer novel by AM Lamonte in the future.

Entertaining and fun triangle with a good location and interesting characters. Like the concept of the story and it flows nicely. Like a secondary characters they always add and unexpected quality to any story. There might even be a couple twists. Good read.

This was a cute little follow up to Christmas at Janey’s Bakeshop. I guess it could be read alone, but I feel like people would really be missing out on the backstory of these characters if they did.

I don’t have many thoughts tbh. It’s short and sweet, not necessarily something that will stick with me, but a quick little read.

I enjoyed this story with Janey and Ian. What a fun and enjoyable story of these two taking a vacation. However, Ian's mum is a problem. I really enjoyed this story. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Aw, that was a sweet short read. Surprisingly, a lot happened in that brief amount of time. Ian's mom definitely doesn't approve of his girlfriend Janey. Did she fly 5000 miles just to break them apart? The book kept me guessing about a few different things but tied up nicely at the end.
