Yoshida is short, scrawny and generally unattractive. To make matters worse, all the girls in his class hate him because Sato, the hottest guy in school, always uses hanging out with him as an excuse to turn them down. Is Yoshida just a convenient excuse or is there something more? Could this odd couple even make things work?!

My first read in the Manga Pride Readathon I'm hosting with friends! This series is one of my favorites. It focuses on their summer vacation together and was an extremely cute volume. I love how Sato and Yashiro's relationship is growing. They still haven't come out to their friends yet, but I hope that happens in later volumes. I just want to see these characters happy, because they make me smile.

Series review
Awkward Yoshida is hated by all the girls in school for his perceived closeness with hot guy Sato, who uses hanging out with Yoshida as an excuse to turn them all down. If Yoshida is merely an excuse, why does Sato taunt him in private about “his favorite”? Is it possible Sato’s feelings run deeper than friendship? And what could he possibly see in the funny-looking Yoshida? Watch Yoshida’s life turn upside down with hilarious results!

According to wiktionary, this is on-point for yaoi: from Japanese やおい (yaoi), an acronym of Yama nashi, ochi nashi, imi nashi (ヤマなし、オチなし、意味なし), "no climax, no point, no meaning".

I got sucked in and spent way too much time and money on this series of boys-love scenarios. Because that’s all it really is, a series of tropes strung together with a mean pretty boy and an “ugly” tough guy who is really short.

This series contains: badly proportioned hands and bodies (though I've seen much worse), mean girls, asshole love interest, non-consensual or dubiously-consensual sexual interactions, and a total disregard to boundaries or desires.

While it has its moments, there's already enough explosive boys-love stories out there. We didn't really need another. Me saying “it's not as bad as others" isn't saying much. I know it's good that things are getting better but they're still not good enough, and I can’t really believe I read nine volumes of this before I gave up.

Good Story as usual...

This latest installment is just as well written and told as the others. I can't wait to see what happens next with Sato and Yoshida their relationship is never boring especially with the girl's from school and their friends.

Excellent et marrant, avec une grande partie sur les manipulations et complots des filles pour attirer l'attention de Sato et éloigner Yoshida.
La partie sur l'île du sud est un peu courte, mais on comprend bien que la relation avance pour eux.

This one focused a lot more on Sato and Yoshida's relationship like I wanted it too and less fan girls :)
Torachin and Yamanaka haven't been around for a bit though. I miss them :(

6 volumes in, I'm still not quite sure why this works so well - and yet it does. Not much happens, it's rather silly, and the plot is more about little vignettes than an overall character building set of arcs. But every now and then it's nice to have some fun with manga and this fits the bill.

Yoshida and Sato are still in the same situation - surrounded by their weird friends, with Sato hounded by the aggressive girls and Yoshida constantly having to dodge them for having Sato's favor. In the first half of the volume, Valentine's Day has crept up and Sato dearly wants chocolates from Yoshida - with the latter too embarassed to take on a girl's role. Will Sato get his chocolates? In the middle of the volume, Sato learns that Yoshida is scared of nearly everything - causing the smaller boy to faint and have to be carried home by Sato (much to the girls' dismay). So the girls hatch a plot to get Yoshida out of the way - which of course will backfire on them. In the last part of the book, the boys get tricked into spending their Summer vacation on a deserted island. But after the goofy guys go to sleep, Sato and Yoshida have time to cement their relationship.

The artwork is fairly consistent with Yoshida being every bit the goofy monkey and Sato the cool hottie. As well, Sato is still just as mean, playing horrible tricks on poor Yoshida all the while professing his love for him. Meanwhile, Akimoto and Makimura are as goofy as ever as they try so hard to get a girl interested in them - all the while being completely oblivious to Yoshida and Sato.

In all, a fun read and more than a little consummation of Sato and Yoshida's relationship. Received as an arc from the publisher.

Ugh, I can't stand the cuteness. This volume covers Valentine's Day, a trip to a tropical island, and Yoshida's growing emotionally. I LOVE how he cherished their time on the island, because no one else was hogging Sato's time and attention. I loved the devious side of Sato returning for Valentine's Day. Overall, a great volume, though I still find it amazing that everyone moans about how Yoshida's eyes are so "small and squinty" but he's drawn so that his eyes are the frickin' biggest of all the characters. It's weird, and why I continue to give these 4* even when I'm enjoying them so much.

Valentine's Day chocolates (Yoshida, will you ever learn to not trust Sato's chocolates?) and then a visit to a deserted tropical island thanks to the scheming Tsuyako (I love her). The ending isn't exactly a cliffhanger, but it did leave me anticipating the next volume... not sure how much longer Sato will be willing to keep their relationship secret from their psycho female classmates.

To me, the final chapter moves the plot forward, finally. Although I love the slice of life stories and the humor, the series desperately needed the main characters to progress in their relationship, which finally happened. Can't wait until the next one come out!

For the most part, this series might as well be a 4-kouma, but things have finally started to get good here in volume 6. It's nice to see Yoshida finally admitting (if only to himself) how much he likes Sato. I melted a little at the beach scene towards the end.
