After years of wanting to master the art of tatting, I finally settled on needle tatting because of it's similarity to crochet. Supplies in South Africa are scarce unless one is prepared to spend quite a chunk on online purchases, but I was fortunate enough to track down a set of needles sold locally.
It's wonderful! The work is quite fine (which I love) and takes a lot of practice to master. Incidentally, I don't go anywhere these days without a ball of thread and my pencil case (filled with crochet hooks and, you guessed it, tatting needles). I read somewhere this is a mark of an addict; is this true?
This is the woman resposible! It is ALL HER FAULT! She diabolically led me into the deapths of addiction! And one day I WILL hunt her down and shake her hand!!!!! When I decided I just HAD to learn Tatting, I tried shuttle tatting but 40 minutes later I was throwing them in the trash. Off to my local craft store for solace and who should I find just waiting to snare me in the thread? Barbara Foster!! 5 minutes, I kid you knot, 5 minutes later I had made my first circle of rings and chains. I blame YOU Barbara Foster for my addiction!! Thank You!! from the bottom of my tatting bag, Thank You.
If someone you know is considering entering this darkly addictive world of needles and knots BUY THEM THIS BOOK!!
