A heartwarming collection of four brand-new festive stories from favourite Australian authors about farms, love and small-town Christmas charm.
The Christmas Contract by Pamela Cook
No-nonsense lawyer turned farmer Bridie Grainger is determined to make a go of her organic produce business, but life is conspiring against her.
Her father is calling time on the loan he gave her to set up the farm.
Her ex is demanding more time with their five-year-old, Finn.
And her elderly neighbour/nemesis has his sights set on her property. When Bridie enlists the help of his visiting son to get her place shipshape for the parental Christmas inspection, are all the resulting feels another complication or exactly what she needs?
A Fairytale for Christmas by Penelope Janu
Big-city lawyer Juliette McAdams is living a small-town life in Ballimore for one reason only-to save her career by Christmas. Which is why she should say no to helping the town, to taking over the fairytale cabin in the forest, and to challenging the impossibly attractive farmer and local-boy-made-good Beau D'Arcy. Mostly she should say no to Beau. What is he hiding? Do his books in the cabin hold the key?
A past left behind, a reimagined future. Can there be a happy ending to this fairytale?
The Christmas Kindness Project by Lily Malone
After the break-up of her 26-year marriage, high-flying property manager Rosie Begg returns to Chalk Hill to start over. Rosie doesn't like surprises, and when she's nominated to represent her new employer in the Christmas Kindness Project, she struggles in the competition spotlight. Then enigmatic real estate valuer, Fletcher Graham (a nice surprise) takes an interest in Rosie's ideas for solving the rental housing crisis. If it's not a hot flush, maybe Rosie's love life is finally heating up?
Christmas at Yindi Creek by Stella Quinn
Angela arrives in Yindi Creek desperate to restore her late mother's opal earring. After a near miss with a roo and a run-in with a grumpy sheep farmer, she discovers that the opal dealers are closed till the winter tourist season.
Robbie spends his days with his sheep and his ailing kelpie Bruce, determinedly not looking at the white cross planted by the gates of his property. But the meddlesome locals reckon he's grieved long enough, and it doesn't take long for them to hatch a devious (but romantic!) plan ...
Lily Malone is a journalist and freelance writer who discovered after years of writing facts for a living, writing romance was much more fun.
Lily juggles writing with the needs of a young family, and when she isn’t writing, she likes gardening, walking, wine, and walking in gardens (sometimes with wine).
Bridie Grainger was happy with the organic farm she'd established after she bought it with her grandmother's inheritance, and a loan from her father; happy with her life with five year old Finn, although Jason, Finn's father, had left six months prior. The trouble was, her parents were arriving for Christmas from England, and Bridie was determined to have everything shipshape, so her lawyer father didn't call time on the loan and sell the property out from under her...
A Christmas Contract is the 1st story in the A Country Farm Christmas anthology, with this one from Pamela Cook. It's a light hearted venture which shows Bridie's grit and strength of character, to build a life and future for her son and herself. Recommended.
#2. A FAIRYTALE FOR CHRISTMAS - 5 stars
Juliette McAdams had six weeks to rescue her career after a huge mistake had cost her firm dearly. She was using that time in Ballimore, a small country town, where she worked in a fairytale cabin all her waking hours. When Juliette overheard conversation about the town having problems with the local council, and the fate of their rotunda, her lawyerly hat went on, and she spoke to Jock, offering her help in what could be done. Meanwhile, Beau D'Arcy, a local, and owner of the cabin Juliette was working in, was an enigma. He helped the townsfolk, and they helped him, but when Juliette asked him questions, he would close up. What was going on with him?
A Fairytale for Christmas is the second story in the anthology, and is by Penelope Janu. I enjoyed it very much; Beau's character is exceptionally well done, and Juliette is a dream. This story is also loosely linked to last year's Christmas anthology piece by Ms Janu, with the same family members featuring. Recommended.
#3. THE CHRISTMAS KINDNESS PROJECT - 4 stars
Rosie Begg was back in her old home town of Chalk Hill after the breakup of her 26 year marriage, still smarting, but prepared to start again in her father's old Real Estate office, now called Begg & Davenport. Her brother Bob, was the Begg and Ella, the Davenport. Rosie's first day saw her wearing a red feather - the Christmas Kindness Project was off and running, and Rosie had been nominated. Sourcing rental properties in the dwindling market made things difficult, but Rosie was confident. And when she met Fletcher Graham, his ideas aligned with hers...
The Christmas Kindness Project is the 3rd short story in this Christmas anthology, and getting back to Chalk Hill with author, Lily Malone was lovely. Rosie, Hershey, Aileen, Fletch and more, made up this delightful story, and I enjoyed it very much. Recommended.
#4. CHRISTMAS AT YINDI CREEK - 5 stars
Toowoomba paramedic, Angela, was heading for Yindi Creek after she'd discovered one of her earrings had been lost during her last shift. The opal earrings had belonged to her mother and she was shattered to have lost one - Yindi Creek was the answer. Heading to Wirri Wirri property - after directions from Maggie at the pub - Angela hoped the sheep farmer could help. But one problem after another seemed to follow Angela around, and this latest one was the worst...
Christmas at Yindi Creek is the 4th and final story in this anthology by Stella Quinn and I enjoyed it very much. A tale of loss and second chances, of looking to the future and leaving the past behind. Of love and new beginnings. Recommended.
A Country Farm Christmas is the latest Christmas anthology, this one by Aussie authors Pamela Cook, Penelope Janu, Lily Malone and Stella Quinn. I enjoyed the four stories very much, and have read these talented authors before. A fun, entertaining anthology which I'm happy to recommend.
With thanks to HarperCollins AU for my ARC to read and review.
Bridie is running a small farm hoping to get an organic tick, she has a five year old son Finn, life hasn’t been easy since she kicked her partner out and with pressure from her father to ensure everything is up and going by Christmas, Bridie is under the pump, When she meets her neighbour’s on the road, Uteman aka Rhys Tucker and soon he is offering her something that might just work in her favour if she can let go of her independence, but with the chemistry sparking between them life might just move forward in a very nice way.
A thoroughly good read filled with emotion and wonderful characters.
A Fairytale Christmas Penelope Janu
I am a lover of fairy tales and Penelope Janu’s stories and this one is just so good, come along and meet city lawyer Juliette and farmer and landscape designer Beau not a good start to their first meeting and some bartering for Juliette to stay in Beau’s small cabin, when Juliette steps in to help the town they are soon working together and their hearts are growing but will they make it to a HEA?
I loved this one two strong characters who were made for each other.
The Christmas Kindness Project Lily Malone
We are back in one of my favourite towns Chalk Hill and after the breakup of her marriage Rosie has moved back to her childhood town and is starting work in the Real Estate office her father used to own, she has been nominated to represent her employer in the town’s annual project she is not sure how this will go but she will give it a shot. When Rosie meets Fletcher real estate valuer, she feels something that she has not felt for a long time, not looking for another love this shocks her but soon things are warming up for them both.
I loved my trip back to Chalk Hill and I loved Rosie and Fletcher’s story, heartwarming and fabulous.
Christmas at Yindi Creek Stella Quinn
Paramedic, Angela has lost one of her late mother’s opal earrings and is desperate to replace is as there is a ritual that her and her twin sister follow each Christmas day and she decides that a trip to Yindi Creek were they were bought many years ago is necessary but the opal dealers are closed, going to the pub she finds herself crying on the publicans shoulder, ever the matchmaker, Maggie directs her to Wirra Wirra station to meet Robbie it is about time that he got over his past, but will Angela and Rob get over their first meeting on the road to go forward to the future together?
I loved my trip back to this area and Rob and Angela, a story that had me smiling and cheering the on.
Four lovely stories that had me turning the pages, fabulous characters, fabulous settings, I do highly recommend this one to any romance reader who loves a rural romance, Thank you all for such fabulous stories. My thanks to the publisher Harlequin HQ for my copy to read and review.
**Thank you to HarperCollins Australia for sending me a free copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review; published 1 October 2024**
A collection of four stories by four different authors, this book is sure to please those that enjoy a rural romance. Being that each story is only roughly slightly over a hundred pages, readers can get through them fairly quickly. The downside (for me, perhaps not others) is of course that given these are such short stories, any problems seem to be resolved fairly quickly and our couples fall in love very very fast. I like a bit more lengthy narrative exploration myself but the positive definitely is it doesn't take you long to get through a story and given that the characters are likeable in each novella, they are all easy and entertaining reads. Overall: a sweet Christmas themed rural romance anthology.
Big thanks to Harlequin for sending us a copy to read and review. Christmas is for most a widely anticipated holiday and an event to celebrate with family but often stress and pressure align themselves to this period. Join four of our fabulous and talented rural fiction authors in a collection of stories that revolve around this festive time. An Australian rural setting is distinct and yet so diverse. Each of the stories is centred around finding love and each will take you on journey often in places you are familiar with. The stories are short and sweet and will leave you hankering for more. Locations and characters help build the plot as the two main leads find love among adversity and attachment. An anthology is a clever way of collecting similar type stories that be read standalone among other books or read simultaneously like I did. This compilation by well known Aussie authors has pre approved trust and will give you festive vibes as the year sky rockets to the day.
What's not to love? Four stories by Aussie authors. Wonderful country and outback settings that make great backdrops for characters looking for love. I'm not the biggest fan of Christmas, but having finished these stories in mid October, I'm almost inclined to find my elf hat, and bust out a few carols. (Disclaimer - one of these stories, The Christmas Kindness Project, is mine). I read that as part of the book just for kicks, and I liked it just fine :)
Four of my favourite Australian authors have returned this Christmas with yet another anthology of short and sweet stories. With the Big Day, only a few sleeps away, I thought that I'd squeeze them in to get into the mood.
What a delight these were! Each one is vastly different, but with one common theme - the spirit of Christmas. Four leading ladies, down on their luck, find so much more this festive season - new beginnings, opportunities, and even romance. The communities showcased provide pleasant backdrops for which are ultimately Christmas charmers.
There's a familiar face or two (or three) to catch up with and brand new characters to meet. Hopefully, we'll see them pop up in future tales! Oh, there's also the odd animal to say hello to as well!
A Country Farm Christmas features four short festive rural romance stories by four very talented Aussie authors.
Each story is unique with a different and distinct rural setting, but all centre around finding love around Christmas. And some are in places you might already be familiar with.
Filled with beautiful rural locations and communities of colourful characters, each story will leave you feeling like your heart is full and you’ll have smile on your face. It was a perfect read just before Christmas.
This is my first compilation read and I enjoyed it so much. I know it helps that it is themed around my second obsession….Christmas. Four Christmas themed stories by four fabulous Australian authors…..
The Christmas Contract by Pamela Cook ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The majority of the characters were endearing, and I loved the whole concept that the main character Bridget, aka Bridie, had when it came to her farming venture. Her son Finn, who is her whole world, is a little sweetie and so adorably trusting.
In comes Rhys, named Uteman by Bridie for quite some time, who is a bit of an enigma, and the story really takes hold.
I do need to say though, just to put it out there, Michael Grainger is an ass !!!
A Fairytale for Christmas by Penelope Janu ⭐⭐⭐⭐
I loved Juliette and Beau, and I could almost see the cosy cabin, and it felt like I was holding the maps in front of me.
I found this story a little jumpy and disjointed for me, meaning it didn’t flow as much as I would have liked, but I was still able to enjoy it.
The Christmas Kindness Project by Lily Malone ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I fell for both Rosie and Fletcher straight away and found myself on several occasions with a lump in my throat and blinking away tears, which is quite a remarkable effect for a story to have on me. Not a common thing at all.
I absolutely loved this story.
Christmas at Yindi Creek by Stella Quinn ⭐⭐⭐⭐
As I had read Down the Track, I found it quite a nice experience revisiting Yindi Creek and found that I still love Maggie, she is such a character.
Angela the paramedic and Robbie the sheep farmer are from different worlds but have a connection that is instantaneous, and who couldn’t help but fall in love with Bruce.
This is a great book with fantastic stories, and I would recommend it at any time of the year. Christmas time reading just makes it a little more special.
Age Rating: 14+ For people who..: Rural romance x Christmas
My Opinion: Where do I start.

Song that suits it: Fancy like Christmas. Walker Hayes ❤️❤️Happy reading❤️
This is a seasonally themed volume of four novellas from popular Australian romance writers. Each novella is written in the style the author is known for, meaning this will be guaranteed to please fans. Readers who aren’t familiar with the four writers, but want some light stories with happy endings, are also likely to enjoy this.
This is, I suppose, a sequel of sorts to the “A Country Vet Christmas” volume published last year (a link to my review is below). Like that one, this volume doesn’t hold any great surprises. It satisfies by providing readers with exactly what is promised.
Each novella is themed around the country, and involves Christmas as a deadline for an event within the plot. The Christmas cheer isn’t overdone in any of them. It’s a clear theme, and a preoccupation for the central characters, but it’s far from the main thing going on for any of them.
In any collection you’re going to find stories you prefer. For me, in this collection, it was Stella Quinn’s contribution. I do enjoy the gentle humor she injects into her stories, and I enjoyed revisiting Yindi Creek, the setting of her last novel.
I have a bit of an up and down relationship with Penelope Janu’s novels; some I’ve enjoyed very much, others I’ve disliked. Unfortunately the style of her contribution here was along the lines of the novels I’ve enjoyed least, so I found this the least enjoyable of the novellas. However, she has many fans and they’ll likely enjoy it, given its’ consistency with her novels.
Lily Malone contributes perhaps the most realistic of the stories here. She follows an older woman starting again after her marriage has unexpectedly broken up. It works well with Pamela Cook’s novella, which is the story of a much younger single mother also restarting her life – like Malone’s central character, there’s a bad breakup in her rear view mirror and she has some fresh and daring ideas for the future.
All of the novellas have a positive attitude, strong heroines, and plots centred on establishing a satisfying life for yourself. As many readers are likely to want at this time of year, a happy ending is guaranteed. Each writer has their own voice, and the novellas reflect that.
This is not the deepest book you’ll read this year, but it’s fun and delivers on its’ promises. Romance readers will enjoy it.
You may also enjoy my review of “A Country Vet Christmas” and other novels by these authors:
A Country Farm Christmas is an anthology published by #harlequinau this year, with four stories by @pamelacookwrites, @penelopejanuwriter, @lilymalone and @stella.quinn.author . I was able to read each story in a single sitting, and they were a great novella sized breath of fresh Australian country air. Each of the stories featured strong women who were at points of the alarms where they were wanting to make a change or they wanted to use their knowledge skills and expertise I need to set a new path for themselves but to help others; they were all very giving of the time today local communities that embrace them, and even know for their love interests and may not always have been allotted for aside there were also very obliging of them as well. One thing I do like about reading Australian country and Outback romances is that the age of the women portrayed is always varied. It's not always about young love or lust, and I like when the exploration of women who are in this forties 50s and 60s is extrapolated on the pages before me. There was also a sense of realism with some of the Mal protagonists as well when I had experienced death of a previous spouse and family member and were able to find ways to relate their stories to the other main characters. I think my favourite story was the Christmas Kindness Project, probably because I like the way the actual project that the town was embarking on with the same name fed its way through each of the characters and the way in which they all interacted with each other. I was a lot the idea of the anthology because it gave smaller little bites into the Australian outback romance genre that have continued to bring me back when seeking out a romantic palate cleanser. Maybe it's the cheeky humour maybe it's the grumbling larrikins on the Outback and maybe it's the realism of the lives entwined in these books that keep me entertained with these four stories. If you're looking for a way to try this run right out, decent ology is certainly the way to go!

A delightfully cozy escape into the magic of an Aussie country Christmas. A Country Farm Christmas is a charming collection of four festive stories that blend heart, humor, and the warmth of small town life.
From Pamela Cook’s endearing lawyer turned farmer Bridie navigating family, farm, and unexpected romance, to Penelope Janu’s witty city lawyer Juliette finding sparks in a fairytale forest cabin with a swoon worthy farmer, each tale sparkles with festive spirit and feel good romance.

Four favourite Australian authors contributions in A Country Farm Christmas made for a delightful relaxing read after some very solid reading I have under taken lately . I enjoyed each of the stories and loved some of the outdoor experiences the authors introduced into their stories . The idea of rocking up to a farm to mine for an opal , as in Stella Quinn's story is Australian to the core as is the way medical assistance is provided in remote areas. A great read , a book to treasure and one to share with friends , and I would recommend this as great reading for anyone who enjoys a relaxing rural romance Although I have posted this on the kindle edition I read the paperback version .
Four of my favourite Aussie authors have gifted us with another gorgeous anthology of short, sweet stories—perfect for a little mid-year festive cheer! With winter nights setting in, I thought it was the perfect time to curl up and enjoy some Christmas spirit in July.
And what a treat these stories were! Each one is unique, but they all share that heartwarming theme of Christmas magic.
This collection is cozy, uplifting, and brimming with festive feels—the perfect Christmas in July read to bring some sparkle to these chilly nights.
Also perfect for those hot summer nights at Christmas time.
I’ve loved reading all the stories in A Country Farm Christmas. Each is unique and reflects its author voice perfectly. Despite their short length, the stories are all beautifully developed and complex enough to deliver very satifying reads. I loved the characters and settings in rural Australia, with the uniquely Australian touches to the Christmas theme. These stories are each easily read in a couple of hours so they’re perfect for kicking back with on a lazy afternoon.
I decided to read a Christmas themed book for the Christmas season. I started in November and found the first two stories delightful. Like the typical Christmas made for tv movies but with great Aussie vibes and feels. Gave me Country Style magazine imagery meets Christmas romance and all the festive girlie vibes. Not something I would typically read but has definitely inspired me to keep on this journey of reading outside of my typicals.
Good Morning Everyone ......I just finished reading A Country Farm Christmas by Pamela Cook ,...Penelope Janu ...Lily Malone and Stella Quinn .........this book is four heart warming wonderful stories from Australian authors about farms .....love and Christmas charm .........all the stories were full of country farm charm so you know what to do ..enjoy..😀
I really enjoyed reading the stories in this compilation. I aim to read one Christmas story every December but this is the first time I’ve read this format. I liked all the stories and will definitely look for other books by these authors. A great way to finish the year with uplifting stories of romance in the bush.
A great mix of country farm romance short stories from some of Australia's best writers, including Pamela Cook, Penelope Janu, Lily Malone and Stella Quinn.
I'm a sucker for Rural Aussie romances. I adore all of these authors and although the romance was very fade to black, I still enjoyed the build up and the landscapes created in the pages of these short stories.
