“Deh Shiva var mohe ihai, Subh karman te kabhu na taro …” (Oh great power, give me the boon, so that I may never shirk away from doing good deeds …) – Guru Gobind Singh
This is the story of a boy who was named after Guru Gobind Singh. He was a son of a daily wager and his skills in study and games were not good. But one day the Sat Kartar came to his house and assimilated to him. Then he was entirely changed. He topped the district in examination and earned scholarships. After finishing his education, he joined the navy academy and he performed excellently.
But for his misfortune, he lost his love interest Meera. Their love ended up with a very heartbreaking death of Meera. To avoid his grief, Gobind joined the submarine wing of the navy that took him to Leningrad in Russia. He found that the submarine named sindhkosh, which was set to go to Bombay from Leningrad, was faulty, the fact that the Russian officials tried to hide. He also met a Russian girl Taraa, whose appearances were very similar to Meera. He fell in love to her, that caused many troubles to him. This is a story of love, heartbreaks, greed, lust, honeytrap, courage and patriotism. The character of Muthuswamy (Gobind’s friend in the navy) was very funny.
But it did not match my expectations as this book was from the author of “Calling Sehmat”, a great chilling spy thriller and one of my favorite novels of all time. But it was a good read. So, don’t expect too much from this book. If you love reading novels, you will love this too. This book contains no political contents but have some adult contents. So, I will recommend it to mature people only. There is a happy ending in the conclusion.

"Calling Sehmat's" renowned author Harinder Sikka, is back with another book named "Gobind". I have found Sikka's storytelling is a blend of personal stories and patriotism and what better to talk about this book but around Independence Day. Author is also known for his ability to weave fictional elements with historical events and thus, I had very high expectations for "Gobind".

The story of our main lead "Gobind" starts in Bihar who is born into an impoverished Sikh family. Driven by his father's words, Gobind embarks on a journey of self-improvement. Just like real life, where we learn each day. Gobind's path opens to Indian Navy where he gradually excels and does well, but just like any other human- his heart is burdened by the loss of his first love, Meera. Gobind is assigned a mission in Russia where he meets Tarra who resembles Meera a lot. Then, begins a narrative of love, patriotism and moral dilemmas. Also, to add humor and light heartedness, I also found the character of Muthuswamy.

Gobind is more than a mere story- it explores the human condition where the inner battles are as significant as the outer ones. Sikka's writing immerses the reader and leaves a lasting impression. It also reminds us of the power of resilience, depth of human emotions and also a quest for purpose & redemption. As I kept reading I developed a renewed appreciation for the strength found in ordinary lives. I felt Gobind is a perfect read this Independence day.

Took this book without much expectation and only because it tells something about navy life. As a person who loves to explore the real life of soldiers, sailors and air staff the plot caught my attention. The subtitle, "SUBMARINERS ARE A SPECIAL BROTHERHOOD EITHER ALL COME TO THE SURFACE OR NO ONE DOES", shook me and kept me thinking about the uncertainty of their lives.

Gobind, a man from a financially backward family in Bihar decides to change the destiny of his family. He joins the Indian navy and shines brightly in his professional career. But he has to carry the weight of unfulfilled promises and unrequited love in hus heart. Though engaging the novel does have a soul that can melt our heart.

The novel portrays his life from being a child struggling with studies to a determined man who begins his career as naval officer. His life takes a turn when he is asked to go to Russia which seems to be both exciting and unnerving for him. In the shades of that unfamiliar city he meets a girl who took him back to a promise unkempt.

"Gobind" offers an engaging love story with a suspenseful backdrop and satisfies the reader. The easy going language makes it more interesting and perfect for beginners.

"Gobind" is a captivating blend of love, courage, and destiny. The story follows Gobind, a young man born into an impoverished Sikh family. Despite his struggles with studies, Gobind's unwavering determination leads him to join the Indian Navy. His journey takes an unexpected turn when he's assigned to Russia—an opportunity that both excites and unnerves him.

As Gobind navigates unfamiliar territory, a mysterious girl enters his life. Her presence stirs memories of a promise unkept, and Gobind faces a dilemma: Which promise will he honor? The suspense builds as secrets unravel, and love blossoms against the backdrop of international intrigue.

The author's vivid descriptions transport readers to the heart of each scene. Whether it's the icy streets of Russia or the warmth of Gobind's childhood home, you'll feel like an eyewitness to the unfolding drama. The language is simple yet evocative, making it accessible to a wide audience.

Overall, "Gobind" is a thrilling love story that keeps you spellbound until the very last page. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a tale of resilience, sacrifice, and unexpected connections.

Gobind by Harinder Sikka is the titular character's life story.

The plot follows Gobind named after the Sikh guru, who is the son of a daily wager belonging from a very poor family from Patna Sahib, Bihar. The plot opens up with Gobind faltering in a cricket match in his school and coming back home and facing his parents about his poor performance in school exams. From that point onwards Gobind decides to turn his life around and he starts that by starting to work in the Sarpanch's field as a daily wager while studying. As a result of his dedication he ends up scoring the top marks in his state and further going to the NDA. Gobind's love story with Meera is very sweetly portrayed and the end is very tragic. From that to his journey and mission in Russia and him falling in love again with Taraa, makes this story very engaging.

I personally felt around the middle of the story that it was starting to get a bit repetitive. Though well written and with a good plot focusing on many issues in the line of udy of a naval officer, the book fails to live up to the mark as compared to the author's other works.

Will recommend it to those who enjoy reading spy stories.

A book based on real events and a story set in the small town of Bihar from where a farmer's son belongs to sikh community , making a name for himself by achieving a gallantry glorious and prestigious award as a service man.

This is the story of Gobind , who realised that he has to take a stand for his family's financial condition and upliftment of them and did wonders with his life from being the notorious child he became the most disciplined one.

He joined NDA , and got selected and went for marine arms and made a name and place for himself through his sheer dedication, courage, calm and teaching of his guru and teachers and with life ups and downs he fought courageously and tactfully. He stands still to his ground and doesn't fail his nation at any position.

His love life was Tragic at first with Meera but a fulfilled one with Taraa and his life was nothing less than from hindi masala blockbuster. From academic to life he ace in everything he put his heart on and became an inspiration for many by setting the bar of loyalty above Royalty, duty over anything and fulfilling his every promise he made to anyone in his life

The book is a breezy read set in a rural area in Bihar and travels to Russia via Indian Navy.

The story is about Gobind, a destiny's child who with his sheer hard work, intelligence and character makes his family and country proud.

While the story is not verbose but somehow lacks the proper depth, which a story like this should have had. It resembles a filmy story more than a properly etched story.
