Sold into slavery to a depraved man, I was meant to serve. To obey. To deceive.
But when the Order uncovered his secret, they gave him a choice: send me to Kenyan University, or he’d lose his claim over me.
At the university, I wasn’t just a student. I was Prey—a label that marked me as less than human in their brutal hierarchy. Unlike others marked the same, though, I couldn’t be hunted. I couldn’t be caught. Everyone thought they knew me—until my lies unraveled.
Branded a liar, I became an outcast in a world where power thrives on manipulation and deception.
But then came him.
Garret Nox.
Manipulative. Vicious. Addictive. He is a predator disguised as perfection, a psychopath hiding behind the mask of a golden boy. Despite the warnings to avoid him, his fixation on me is unavoidable.
They say envy consumes everything it touches. And Garret? He’s the embodiment of it.
Now, I’m caught in a dangerous game where the envious don’t just covet the Prey—they destroy them. The only question left is: Will I survive his obsession?

Disappointed! I’ve been a fan of this series despite the editing mistakes. But this one was VERY short, shorter than the others and it felt so incomplete. I always had the same complaint about those books and it’s the fact that it’s so short that the story is also incomplete. But the first 4 books I LOVED despite those facts. The 4 books the story is so original and not at all what I was expecting, I was actually surprised by. And I couldn’t help but rated them high. But this one it’s literally a copy and paste of Jess and Veronica’s book, it’s almost the same to a T. Nothing is new, the romance is flat, action where ? The participation of the other characters are minimal. One thing authors should know about us readers is that if it’s an interconnected standalone series we LOVE to have the participation of the characters from previous books, it makes everything better. Sadly the first 4 books and amazing to me and the last 2 are way below average and incomplete.
I loved the last couple books in this series, and was really excited about Garret and Rose’s story. Unfortunately this one really disappointed me. For most of it, it felt like pieces of the story were missing. I read and reread to make sure I wasn’t missing anything, and I wasn’t, it was how it was written. Like Garrett telling Rose he didn’t have a girlfriend and how they had that conversation, but there was no conversation and things between him and Rose were still heated at that point so I can’t see them having any conversation. And the editing and grammar was bad. For example, Rose and Amy are at Babylon and Amy asks Rose a question, then 2 pages later the exact conversation repeats again. And after Rose and Garret share a moment, the next night she leaves Babylon and sees Garret arriving with Cassie (his on/off again f*** buddy). She’s upset and hurt, and goes back to his house where she is living now to pack her things and goes to Amy’s for the night. Next day Garret finds her and she tells him she saw him the night before, but that’s the end of it. They leave and he gives her a driving lesson. There was explanation for why he was with Cassie, or if anything happened, nothing. It was beyond frustrating. Also, even though I read the last book, I can vaguely remember the lie Rose told Melody about them being sisters, but can’t recall if it was mentioned why and why everyone basically exiled her in this book. So it would’ve been very nice if at some point it was mentioned in this book why Rose lied. That whole storyline was just dropped. I also would’ve liked more intel into Rose’s past with John and her talking about it with at least Garrett. And that scene in the end with Garret and Veronica, that had my head spinning. They were acting too close and Rose getting upset and leaving, I got that, but why Garret let her go and didn’t tell her who Veronica was I didn’t get. My last complaint is the ending. WTF. Is it a cliffhanger, isn’t it??? With how the rest of it was written I honestly can’t tell. It just abruptly ended. I’m hoping for another book for Garret and Rose, but I’m guessing there won’t be. John was dealt with so there’s not much to deal with I guess, even though seeing Garret deal with his mother would also be nice. She’s just as responsible as John was. But the way this ended sucked. There was clarification with Cassie, Rose’s last scene with Garrett kinda flirting with Veronica and left thinking he invited Veronica over and had just been with her, and there was no confirming Rose being pregnant and telling Garret. Just too much left unanswered. It was disappointing. This book was super short and really lacked depth and plot.
This book had a chance to go in so many different directions. Did I like the plot of the book? Yes. Was my kindle version of this book absolutely horrible? DEFINETLY. The constant typos, grammatical errors, and the constant run-on sentences were horrible. It was like reading the rough draft. There were many times where I had to go back and re-read something because it did not make any sense. I wish this book was longer. The author could have gone on and talked about some of the things Rose endured, experiences at Kenyon, and the back story about Luke. Garret's character needed more of a "redemption". He was so horrible to Rose, but five pages later, he was head over heels for her and all was forgiven. There were many plot holes I noticed while reading. I will say that this book was SO MUCH BETTER THAN "Forbidden Flesh".
I loved the first three books in the The Prey series but after reading Envy I’m beginning to wish I’d stopped reading this series at that point and after Envy I know I’m done know. This book was just a bit too dark and gritty for me, and I can’t help but feel Carmen Rosales is running out of ways to shock her readers. I just felt frustrated with Rose. Why does the heroine always forgive the bad boy so quickly especially after they’ve gone through hell at their hands. Three small words and all is forgotten. And as for the ending, it felt abrupt like a couple of chapters were missing either that or they didn’t know how to end it but the author had to hit send or miss the deadline on Amazon.
I loved this story about Rose and Garret. I didn’t like Garret at first as he was too cruel and harsh, but as time went on cracks in his armour appeared and it humanised him. It also endeared him to Rose. I thought that she was brave and had a spine of steel to survive. I loved the tension and the dynamic between the two leads. The page practically sparked and it kept me engrossed during the book. The thing I love about Carmen’s writing is her ability to throw curveballs. I love how her stories can veer into an unexpected direction, which ramps up the enjoyment factor. There were only a couple of things that I wished were in the book. The first was to find out more about Rose’s background and the other was to have a more drawn out ending. However, this did not spoil the read at all. In fact I loved it. This was more of a rounding aspect. This was a 5 star read.
Ok, so I love this whole series. Anything that has to do with dark academia and bullying I love.
This one was extremely dark in that if you have struggled in the past, mentally, or other, I would caution to tread lightly.
I only gave it four stars because it ended so abruptly. No epilogue or explanation. I need more. However, I know she usually throws us for a loop with a crazy plot twist but this was different and there was no plot twist. Carmen! You drive me crazy but I’m here for it lol.
This is Rose and Garret’s book. If you’ve been reading along you know about them already. Garret is an a$$hole rich kid disguised as a golden boy. Rose has a very troubled life. She was sold in sex slavery as a child and has a lot of issues. She ends up at the Ivy college of rich kids and Prey. Garret is a little obsessed but also can’t stand her.
This is my first ever read from Carmen Rosales. And she didn’t disappoint…
Definitely a short fast paced read. Rose, my sweet Rose. My heart felt for her sooo much. Until she was adopted to a family which made things worse. Garret is tall. Gorgeous. Dangerous. The kind of man who could make a girl lose herself. (I instantly fell for Garret Nox)
The way Rose occupies his thoughts every waking moment, even when all he wants to do is ruin her—break her into pieces so I can create the perfect version of her. But he can’t, because she is beautiful the way she is.
Garret being obsessed and having soo much hate towards Rose despite what she’s has gone through. Just made him want her soo much more. Garret calling her his “𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐧”. Had me swooning more for him.
Rose, brought out the dark, unhinged version of Garret. The version he keeps locked away. It was sooooo dark which just made me want to keep reading. I couldn’t put it down.
I feel like Garret and Rose story isn’t finish. There has to be more…
-College -sex trafficking (I learned a bit) -History of rape -Protective hero -Villain gets the girl -Poor girl Rich guy - Non-con (rape= past scenes and almost-rape) - Pregnancy
Not having read any prior book left me flailing at first. The prologue and chapter one seemed well-written but left so many details out that I almost DNFed. I was not sure if the omissions were a plot flaw or something I should just know from earlier books. However, I love a fresh take on favorite themes, and I was intrigued by the main character who grew up enslaved. Thrusting her into college without a decent education was fun to read. The details about sex trafficking were eye-opening! And I slowly learned that any ‘normal’ person at this college was prey, which meant, I think, a target for death. The joke was on them: an abused person doesn’t fear death. Sure, I probably missed some nuances and should have started with the first book, but I like a bit of mystery to keep my mind engaged.
The Romance: Garrett was dark, obsessive, and possessive. His character was described with just enough detail that I could mold him into my own book boyfriend, 😂. Of course he had to show up masked with a bloody knife near the end! If you dream of a guy piling a house full of expensive clothes and jewelry on you, you might love this. But I don’t recommend it as a standalone.
I’ve devoured every book in The Prey Series—and up until now, Carmen Rosales had me hooked with her haunting tension, layered characters, and that signature slow-burn madness. But Envy? Honestly, I’m still stunned by how underwhelming this one was. It felt like a watered-down novella pretending to be the final act in a gripping, brutal saga.
Compared to the previous books, Envy gave us crumbs. Garrett—who should’ve been terrifying and magnetic—had no real backstory. No inner chaos to make his obsession feel earned. Just… surface-level possessiveness and vague threats. And Rose? We barely got to know her. Her trauma, her motivations, her strength—everything was glossed over. There were no real reasons behind the choices, no insight like we had in Thirst or Appetite or even Forgive Me For I Have Sinned.
What hurts most is the ending. After building this dark, complex world full of emotional traps and psychological torment, we get an abrupt, barely detailed conclusion. David and John are just killed, and then… nothing. No aftermath. No reflection. No payoff. Just a door slammed shut with no warning.
This book could’ve been the crescendo. Instead, it felt like someone skimmed their own worldbuilding, gave us a skeleton of a story, and called it closure. I hate saying it, but Envy didn’t do the series justice.
Envy ( The Prey Series Book 6 ) Well , there are no words just no perfect words to express the wild ride Carmen Rosales just took me on once again . With every Book in this incredible series I’ve become more and more invested, captivated and just 100 % obsessed. All the wonderfully written and complex characters and storylines . The way each book played on my emotions and pulled on all my heartstrings, I certainly never saw coming. If you love a strong and feisty heroine you are absolutely going to adore Rose , because she has definitely been through it and and survived so many things in her life that took a toll both emotionally and physically on her . And Garret - well if ever there was a morally grey , possessive, obsessive and depraved hero - it’s without a doubt him . To be completely honest when I first met him I couldn’t decide if I loved or hated him.-I mean he comes across as incredibly cold , cruel and just downright harsh . But we learn very quickly that there is so much more to him than meets the eye. Their journey is so very beautiful and emotional and complex not to mention dark , raw and gritty . in my honest opinion no words can possibly do this book / series enough justice, you simply need to pick it up and experience all its perfection for yourself.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.
This is the story of Rose and Garrett. If you have been reading the series then you know who these two are and were probably waiting for their story. To say that Rose has had a horrible life is an understatement. I can't even imagine all that she has been through. Rose is such a great character because she is written so well. Garrett is the golden boy. Rich as all get out but darkness lives in him. You do not really want to mess with this man. When these two run into each other they really run into each other. He finds her disgusting and he makes sure to make her feel that way. I wanted to jump in this book and smack him up the side of the head for this. I was livid. So it goes without saying that your not going to like Garrett to much in the beginning. But don't give up on him. When they get it together they really do and you will feel the tension and fire between them oozing out of your kindle. I did love reading this book. I did however, feel like this book just kind of ended. It isn't super long but it really gets to the point of it all quickly.
Envy is my first read by Carmen Rosales and can be read as a standalone given that I don’t feel I missed on any details.
It’s very dark and definitely is a book where TWs matter (at least for me). Our FMC undergoes a lot of horrible things, many to which she’s not aware of until she wakes up.
I’m not exactly sure why she was sent to Kenyan University, only that it was necessary to avoid suspicions. Anyways, this is where she meets our MMC after hearing he’s off limits to her.
Of course though, our MMC isn’t going to let that stop him. At the end we always want what we can’t have.
This story definitely took a bit of time to build but I do believe all the information was necessary to understand why Rose (our FMC) is the way she is and why Garret (our MMC) is somehow really over protective of her.
The end was okay but I do agree that some things were missing and felt off. However, even with all that, I still enjoyed the story but definitely had to take some pauses.
I’m intrigued about the rest of the series and will certainly dive into them as well.
Again Carmen has made me pick my jaw up off the floor!! I hate that this series is done because I want more from this world. I want Azriel’s boom and Amy’s too now. We have seen Garret throughout the series now we get his story. I ugly cried for Rose and all she has been through and I’m thankful that Garret stepped in when he did. These two are great and I wish there was more of them. Looking forward to whatever Carmen does next. 🖤🔥🩸🔥🖤
My favorite quotes from Rose:
• His words shatter me. Because I know what it feels like to be a mistake. I’ve spent my whole life feeling like one.
• His hand presses over my heart. “I promise,” he whispers. “I’ll never let anyone hurt you.”
I turn my head, catching his lips. And for the first time…
I was so close to giving this book at least a solid 3 stars. I liked it much better than the last. It was more on par with the first 4 but the ending is why it can only get two stars from me. It’s like the author was on top chef and ran out of time to write anymore. Throughout the book she’s looked at as a liar and we just never find out what she lied about. The ending was SO abrupt. Like not even a cliff hanger per se the story just… stopped? Idk who threatened this author and said “write 2 books in 2 weeks or else” but surely that’s what happened because the way this series ended was just…. Yeah. Anyway. Finished the series and I’m glad it’s over. But disappointed because it truly did have promise.
I like this series and have purchased them all. But I have questions that were not answered. Spoilers ahead!!!
1 what did Rose look like 2 who ordered Garret to kill Rose 3 how did John become part of the Order 4 who made the appointment for Rose to go to the health center on campus and take out her birth control and why 5 why did Garret want one of the other guys wives to come see Rose 6 abruptly ends after Rose is rescued. No discussion between Garret and Rose about her pregnancy 7 no talk between Rose and Melody about being sisters 8 Rose never told her story about her being John’s s$x sl@ve and being trafficked to anyone 9 no revenge against Garret’s mom for her knowledge of the situation between John and Rose. Wish there was more explanations
This is the 6th book in this impressive series and this is Rose and Garret’s journey. Rose has endured a horrific and unimaginable life, but she has become strong and feisty, and Garret comes across as cold, obsessive, possessive, depraved, and behind his façade as the golden boy, there is darkness within. No spoilers, this is a must read for all dark romance lovers. This is a well written story which is a raw, gritty, emotional roller coaster, with secrets, manipulation, deceit, heartbreak, tension, complex characters, curveball, and love, which leads to an entertaining, spicy, tragic, twisted, and unpredictable, addictive page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
This is Book 6 in the Prey series and readers should review content for triggers Otherwise, dive in ! It takes a very talented writer to make you love a psychopath..but is he really? What Garret is - is obsessively in love with Rose although he would be hard pressed to tell you that’s what he feels since he has never known love.
I felt so much for Rose ! Her strength even though she doesn’t feel strong after all that has happened in her young life. Rose won’t be Prey no matter what !
A page turner for me 5 stars !.

I love this author and loved the latest addition of the Prey Series. I loved the characters and the chemistry between them. Rose was so interesting and dynamic as the FMC. Garrett was a great MMC. This book had some great twist.
The one thing that I would have liked is to have more of an ending or a epilogue. I loved these characters and wanted a little more of a conclusion to the story. I would highly recommend this series! I loved this book but I do think the other books need to be read to enjoy this book.
If you like dark romance, do not miss out on this series! I have loved these books!.

One can never have too many favourite authors, right?
You'll not find an author who writes characters who are both complicated and interesting because this book, like its predecessors, is guaranteed to walk away with more than just enjoyment.
Rose and Garrett will draw you into their story. Not only is it wild, but the intricacies will keep you on your toes wondering what will happen next.
If you have not read this series from the start, which I haven't, by the way, do yourself a favour, please do, because you will not be disappointed.
I received an ARC. Therefore, I am submitting a voluntary review.
I absolutely detest cliffhangers , especially when I’m on book 6. I actually purchased the first 5 but got this one via KU. I’m not happy about this. I’m so not happy that I gave a 4 star read only 2 stars.
What’s next and when will it be published? Is it going to complete this story? I’m happy that John got his, along with David and Luke, but where’s this going? Is Azriel’s story next or is this one going to be done, or both?
Another good read in The Prey series. Just when you thought you knew who Garret's character was, this book throws it through a loop with his relationship with Rose. It navigate Rose's role as Prey as well as her role in Garret's life while overcoming her traumatic past.
I really liked this book, it was a good addition to the series. I just wish it was a full length novel as there was so much more about Garret and Rose that I wanted to know. That said, it was done very well.

CHECK THOSE TRIGGERS Rose's story is so tragic and sickening. Garrett's turning point in when he throws up after storming out of class. This was my first book by this author and being the 6th book in a series may not have been the best place to start, on my part. I enjoy the writing style and story line. The ending was so open book I was left wanting much more. Garrett's ability to put is feeling into beautiful and tragic words is inspiring. I hope to understand this book more by reading previous books and learn more about the order once new books are released.
Love the story and the main characters. Always so much going on with test and turns. Could have used a little more detail on the last half to quarter of the book. Good ending that it keeps open in case there are further books. BUT doesnt leave on a huge cliffhanger either.
The last half to quarter feels a little rushed compared to the first half but still really enjoyed it. Could use more moments between main characters
Needs better editing. There were duplicate pages, and spacing issues
I cannot believe how this book ended. I have been a big fan of this series from day 1, but I felt like there were missing pieces of the story and that it felt rushed.
This is the final book in the series where Garrett finally gets his hea. I guess I didn't pick up that he's a lil unhinged until now lol. You get a lil taste of his crazy towards the end of the book, and the way it ended, it leaves questions and not enough answers.
Rose was just the sweetest person, you couldn't help wanting to befriend and protect her, as she's been used her whole life, so her trust in people was not there.
This book was good, I docked a star for a couple repetitive things from the 5th book, that just made me think the author had run out of ideas and also I have to say I think it may need a re-edit.
B....U....T..... over all I liked the story I think it needed more rounding of in the end, unless there's more to come which it kinda sound like we will get an Azriel and Amy fingers crossed, but I do hope she has some new ideas. I do love these books, and I consumed them all too quickly.
I am a huge fan of this author and have been reading her books since the beginning. I absolutely love this series and love how we get to read each individual that is part of the order's story.
Although we get Garret and Rose in this book, I felt the same as the rest of the readers. It was too short and it did feel a bit rushed. I think this book had potential to go further and much longer. We needed the in-depth of the story and I didn't really feel it.
Aside from that note, I did really enjoy the story and the premise of it. I hope we get Az's book next <3 <3
Man, Rose… I… can’t even begin to describe the feeling I got while reading what was forced upon her by John and others.
The Cinnamon.. I don’t get what it was for.
That first poem made me feel the pull the author felt to Rose.
Garret is dark. He’s consistent with it. He’s one you don’t cross. Rose doesn’t know what hits her when she runs in to him. He finds her disgusting and makes sure she feels it every time he says it to her.
This book made me cringe at the abuse Rose and others went through. I legit felt my skin crawl when she described it and when Aleric pulled up the slide show in class.
The story was short and to the point. this book did not disappoint. I can’t wait until the next book.
I love this series..I really do..but this story was so under-developed that I was thinking, "Is this it? That's all?" No story line in between, "I see her, I want her, I have her, I love her". It was a short story so I suppose I shouldn't have expected too much. With all that said, I still loved that Garrett and Rose ended up together and more bad guys are eliminated. Spice was almost non-existent but the story line was good enough to keep me interested. This one was just, "MEH", to me.
The sixth and final book in the Prey Series. This series made me fall in love with Carmen’s writing and this is a little bitter sweet. I devoured this within a couple of hours and the only downfall? I want more 😭😭 Rose’s story is so heartbreaking and Garret may have just became one of my favorites from this series. I so want Azriel’s story now!! The way Carmen writes, she not only has you invested in the main characters but you’ll be craving more from the side characters.
