“Your wife will be beautiful, but she will be hell. There will not be much that is gentle or sheepish about her. She’ll be a force to be reckoned with and you’ll love her beyond your understanding.”

Chemistry held his fathers words close to his chest and even though he didn’t believe a true love, a wife and life partner were in the cards for him, he valued the wisdom his father bestowed upon him. Chemistry is the eldest of 11 siblings and as a result is a protector by nature. He is not to be fkd with not even a little bit and is the 🥷 that makes ish happen in whatever way it needs to. If you’re fortunate to be on the list of those that he loves, just know he will always come running.

As the head of his father’s empire Chem is a mystery to most. He’s that thief in the night that you don’t realize is there until it’s much too late. Just make sure the policy is paid up and ya mama has her black dress ironed. Chem had the world on his shoulders and while looking for a moment to decompress, a routine visit to see his sister leads him to snatching up Eden and eating every last word he spoke against his fathers premonition.

It’s Eden’s first night dancing at Roulette and she had no idea that minutes into her routine, the most domineering, intelligent, gun toting, BD slanging masterpiece would give her 5 minutes to collect her belongings and bring her 🍑 tf on 😩😩 All sis was trying to do was work and earn her coin. She was not prepared for the force that was Chemistry and everything that came with him. The level of all consuming intensity that this man exhibited was felt on every single page and if Eden didn’t want him, I’ll slam dunk him tonight 😆 IYKYK!

Neither Eden nor Chem had any idea of the web of secrets that lay ahead of them…. Or did they?! 😉 Chemistry is always 10 steps ahead and I should have never doubted him for one second.

Having only read Mercer’s book, I went into Chemistry with very little background information about him. From the small glimpse I received in Mercer and I do mean small, he made such a large impact on me that I was willing to go into his book blindly. I was absolutely blown away when it came to Chemistry! For Eden to have been his first love, he could write the blueprint on what creating the softest, carefree life of ease for your woman looks like.

The men in Grey Huffington’s world set the standard and Chemistry was no exception. It was the way he read the room when it came to Eden’s needs. It was him wanting to solve her problems before they existed. Yasssss we love a problem solving king! He had a heart of gold and his money was long amongst other things.

🔹It was the petty drive thru salsbury steak dinner for me 🤣😆
🔹It was Eden coming home to her bed missing for me😩🤭🛏️
🔹It was Chem redeeming himself after he placed the flowers in the trunk for me ❤️🥀🌹
🔹It was the back stroke 🏊🏿‍♂️ and the deep stroking in the pool for me😈💦🍆
🔹It was “a penny for your thoughts” for me!
🔹It was the ultimate sacrifice made to protect those Chem loved for me!

There are certain authors that have a signature that can’t be imitated nor duplicated and Grey is one of those authors. She is in her own lane, on her own planet and in her own universe. I’ve come to expect a certain level of storytelling from her and she has yet to disappoint me. She had a true gift and I’m thankful that we exist in the same lifetime for me to enjoy it!

I love you.”

4.5 ⭐️ I was rather perplexed by the prologue. Grey has a style with words that demand attention; at first, I felt there were too many riddles in the text, but then I started to like it. You may recall from my previous reviews that the two brothers Mercer and Chem piqued my curiosity the most; so far, Grey has lived up to my expectations.

"When you love someone, you don't only love the pretty parts of them. You love the ugly too." Chemistry believed he had a special responsibility as the firstborn out of eleven siblings. Chemistry has always been and is a mystery to us, but as we read more carefully, we are beginning to understand some things about him. As the head of his father's empire, Chem must produce an heir the time is ticking. In the course of his inquiry, he meets Eden, who is completely unaware that he has declared her to be his regardless of the circumstances. But (Egypt) Eden also has her own hidden truths. My girl Eden had a job to do, so I was worried about her. But she was so weak in the knees over Chem that she forgot what kind of man she was with. As a ghost, Chem was very cunning and intelligent, and he was constantly one step ahead of everyone. In the words of Chemistry " Don't ever be afraid of what I'd do to you. Be afraid of what I wouldn't do for you." Whew, that man right there was something different 🤯. It is a pleasure to read about black characters who fell in love and experienced peace of mind and luxury. Loving one another in a healthy, unconditional manner. The epilogue was too brief; Grey, you could have easily made it as lengthy as the prologue, in my opinion.

The sisters were entertaining. One thing I won't do is play with Grey Huffington pen. I can't wait to see her perspectives on Royce, Range, Roulette, Roaman, Rome, Rugger, and Roaman. Based on what we know so far about these siblings, we are in for a treat.

4.5 Stars
This story was quite different than I expected. I was so confused when it came to the fmc after reading the snippets Grey was sending, but baby the WAY that came together I didn't call it at all. We were able to peel back some of the mystery that was the man Chem, but also the mystery that was Eden/Egypt while being introduced to Chem's sisters.

Chemistry listen.....this man didn't disappoint. He was hidden in plain sight. He was mannish while being professional. A genius while sporting golds. A soft protector while being cold AF. Sensitive while being emotional unavailable...to most. This man was a walking contradiction and I was here for it all. Life had damaged Chem...his mother although she was a small part of his story impacted the way he moved, how he interacted, and had him refusing to love. However, when life knocks him on his azz again he decides he is going to grant his father one wish not knowing he was about to be thrown all the way off his axis.....when he meets Eden.

Eden is doing her job, when Chem rudely interrupts her with demands. Everything about this overbearing man should say run, but instead she feels a pull, she feels protected, she feels at peace. They both feel complete, but life laughs in their face. When Eden realizes that she doesn't really know the man she loves, shii starts to get real. However, she can't stop the free falling she feels. I didn't see this story line coming and it had me on the edge, because I couldn't see a happily ever after for them. I guess I underestimated how deep Chem's unconditional love was for Eden.

One thing about Grey is she gone mostly give you
-A long azz, beautifully written prologue
-A fine azz, boss azz, rich azz mmc with BDE
-An fmc you gone either love or hate
-A BIG LOVE!!
-A whole lot of words
-A third act breakup of sorts
-An interesting story
-Characters that you are going to root for, even if they stress you out
-An ending leaving you wanting more

This story was no different. I enjoyed watching Chem and Eden fall. I love that Grey creates black characters in all types of careers. The black excellence was jumping off the page.
Idk if I really want to read about all of the sisters, but I find myself most intrigued by Rugger. She seems to not be swayed by much.
That said well done Grey, I was locked in. I almost wanted Chem to be even more mysterious, but I loved the man that he was.

Idk girls. I’m probably packing my bags and setting up camp in Clarke. I’m going to keep this review short and sweet because I don’t want to spoil anything.

Chemistry has always been a mystery and this book answered all of my questions. I was caught off guard by what Egypt had going on and I spent majority of the book screaming, “Chem is smarter than this! His sisters are smarter than this!” 😭 But a man like Chem? He’s always twenty steps ahead.

I think this was a great introduction to his sisters’ series and I can’t wait to read more!

I’m unwell but so well at the same time.

My chemist…

This book was so different yet still so Grey Huffington.

I enjoyed it so much. I tried to savor the moment but you’re really gonna want to keep turning the pages. There’s this mystery suspense to it that you really have no choice but to lock in and ride the wave.

We get a lot of insight into the mystery surrounding Chem. We get to experience and understand the impact of their mother's death on a deeper level. The story has both darkness and softness to it, and it made me feel a range of emotions - anger, heartbreak, anxiety, and love.

As I was reading, I found myself trying to send my man some clues, but he's Chemistry Childers - he knows and sees everything. One should never underestimate him.

Egypt, although she had me screaming through the book, was also so likable. It was as if her charm was contagious. They meshed so well together. I hope we get to see more of them throughout The Grey List.

I love how Grey makes us feel through her words. My heart literally goes pitter-patter. The inner thoughts, the unaliving, the sex scenes - all of it was impeccable.

Lastly, this family is so complex, so educated, so calculated, and so deadly. I really love everything about them. I’m excited for what’s to come.

I change my last name after every series but Ebony Childers sounds kinda good. I’m not gon even hold yall!

CHEMISTRY, CHEM, THE CHEMIST, POP, TEDDY and MISTER, I expected nothing less!!!

Big Grey not the little one . We all know how grey be coming with the prologue but this one Hit different : Chem … I felt like I was holding my breath the entire time . Grey can write her behind off!!! I’ve been waiting on chem since he was first introduce in Berkeley Bred and this was worth every minute of the wait oh my! The way this story unfolds the way it tugged on my heart strings . They was he is with the girls , his pop , the boys and Egypt ( Eden) (Them)🥰. .. The epitome of EVERYTHING YOU WANT IN A Good behind MAN!!! ( bump the rest)

All I can say IS freaking Read !! It’s way to much to unpack in this review!! & you gotta go back all the way to beginning and get on the Grey wave! Cause she’s the one point blank Period! She coming every time …. So wake up!!!

I need THE Girls NEXT ! . 8 R’s I already know how they coming ! HEAD BISH’S in charge . Rhea, Rome , Range, Roulette , Royce , Roaman Rather , & that dang Rugger …… “Summer 2024” Ready!!!

Ok, so the prologue was extremely wordy to the point where I was in confusion like 75% of the time and struggling to get through it. But once I got past that I felt like I was free-falling through the air with no parachute 😭

When I tell you Miss Huffington had me on the edge of my seat, fighting for air in my lungs, clutching my chest, eyes watering throughout this entire book…baaaaaaybe she put her foot in this story, ok!

Chem was NOT to be fck’d with! A man about his business, which came second only to his family - brothers, sisters, and father. He wouldn’t think twice about ending your life if it meant protecting his loved ones. & then there’s Eden (Egypt). As soon as he saw her he knew she was HIS, but she had a job to do and unknowingly fell for him when she was supposed to be hunting him down.

Their love story is a whirlwind with so many twists and turns and I loved every second of it! I will definitely be locked in for the stories of Rome, Range, Roulette, Royce, Roaman, Rather, and Rugger as well as Milo, Mercer, Malachi, and Makai.

make it make sense

I really wanted to like this story but it was so unrealistic. The fact that Chemistry is a successful chemist who comes from a family of highly educated women would see Eden/Egypt in the strip club and decide to wife her up on the spot is crazy work. Eden is the worst agent I’ve ever read about. The word choice and the flow of the story was not there. I’m not a fan of fluff and repetitive storytelling. I found myself skipping pages to hurry up and be done with the book. The end was disappointing and rushed. I won’t be back for Rather’s story because I read enough in this one to know that she’s not a very good one.

“Stop fucking with my head. I’m not right up there,” I gritted, staring down and into her eyes.

Chem! Chem! Chem! Talk about a man that is 100 steps ahead of everyone. He was serving *boss*protector*giver*lover. He was always listening and his book presence was palpable.
Eden was “doing her job” and baby she was! I just had to ride the wave and sometimes let it take me under bc this book was attention grabbing the whole way through !

“The Chemist”

*Potential spoilers*

Chemistry and Egypt are the start of the new chapter and series in the Huffington world going to the city of Clarke. They are new but old and familiar at the same time with Chem being related and close to Domino and Eisenberg Clan. We left Berkeley and traveled to Clarke the número uno rich city in Huffington and it showed. Chemistry is the older brother of 11 siblings like imagine that so you already know what type of brother he is big man in charge that you can depend on and be protected by. His character was very enticing he and his brothers from the domino clan are alike in that way they care for their women and family and are obsessed with them which I love. But chem was different he and his brother Mercer where similar battling mental illnesses inherited from their beloved mother who left them scarred. Chem was closed off from love and scared to love a women while being tormented continuously with his mothers tragic passing he was on functioning autopilot of nothingness with only the deep love he carried for his 7 sisters who were his baby’s and his dear brothers who all made him open up and come out of his shell. Egypt aka Ms. Eden was a bold alluring women with scars from past relationships and secrets to hide. When they met it was an exploded attraction and emotional set off they shared so much about each other but at the same time had so many secrets. I sat there like nah this anticipation I’m feeling is crazy lmbo. This book was a little more different from author grey’s usual catalog which I was looking forward to reading because it gives dark and mysterious vibes. Chemistry and Egypt were so invested and tangled into each other it was endearing. Chem came full throttle about her, you even look at her and your getting unalived my friend 😂. Throughout the book I was like chem gotta know who she is the way he’s so articulate about everything and needs to know everything especially in their family I’m like nah they gotta know and can’t be that dense without a clue and I was right they were so smart on how they played this especially chemistry. Their attraction was fast paced but made sense and wasn’t forced but some things were left a mystery which I guess will get answered throughout the series. One thing I can say Egypt committed to her man through and through she might have done some stuff but she was loyal I do wish she took her momma with her because I couldn’t “be on the run” and uproot without at least asking Art or her mom to come with them 😭. Chemistry made me feel for him on being a complete orphan now and not seeing his father one last time.

* I loved chemistry’s terms of endearments “baby” “chocolate” “choc” and what his sisters called him “teddy”, “pop”, “chem”

* I wish we got the see Mercer and chemistry talk to each other about their mental illnesses and chemistry telling his brothers

* What man you know practices swimming like the Olympics for the future of being locked up like the avengers 🤣 only chem !

* Chemistry and his brother Mercer handled their mental illnesses so well with the resources at their hands I wish their mom had that chance; I’m glad Grey incorporates topics like these into her story telling because it’s so fascinating.

* I noticed this takes place during the time Anna was alive and after so many things to be talked about and touched on in my opinion

* I hope we get to see the domino clan meet baby CJ and vice versa of chemistry meeting his little nieces and nephews

I’m looking forward to Rather’s story The Therapist and hope some connections take place and see what’s next on this series and sisters because they are some well rounded interesting women👌.

4.5 ⭐️ I love Grey Huffington’s books. I thought the prologue hard to get into. But it finally started to come together. Chemistry was controlling. He wanted what he wanted. I loved the bond that Chemistry had with his sisters. And they did not play about their brother. It was overall a great book any I’m looking forward to the rest of the series.

I initially started out reading this book but couldn’t push past the prologue. And despite all of the encouragement to push through, it would be worth it in the end, it took 10 months before I finally decided to try the audio. Although I was now able to progress through the story, the audio stole something from me. There were several areas throughout the story that was internal dialogue that I thought actually occurred in the story and not the character’s head. So midway through to the end there was confusion on my part. I had to go back and listen to certain passages to determined what really happened. Other than that another good read/listen from Ms. Huffington

See Amazon review. GRs is acting stupid... Update.... Anyway, Chemistry is one of the most complex characters I have ever read about. He is smooth, quiet, super cerebral, and calculatingly amazing. The story was unimaginable. The author did her thing with Chemistry. He is scary goodness with a heart of gold when it concerns his family.

Grey Huffington doesn’t just write love stories she writes experiences that reach deep into your chest and sit with you long after the last page. Chemistry completely consumed me. I started it thinking I’d pace myself, and instead I found myself staying up late, crying through chapters, and clutching my Kindle because I couldn’t put it down. You know a book is good when you wake up in the middle of the night just to finish it and that’s exactly what I did.

This book isn’t light or easy. It’s messy, it’s heavy, and it’s filled with raw emotion. Love here isn’t simple it’s tangled with betrayal, secrets, grief, and the question of whether forgiveness is even possible when the truth finally comes out. What kept me hooked was how Grey balances the pain with hope, showing how healing can coexist with heartbreak.

One of the most powerful passages was about grief:

“Grief doesn’t have a timeframe, nor does it look as pretty as the other emotions. Sometimes it hides in corners. Sometimes it is front and center. Sometimes it’s dormant. Sometimes it lingers. It shows up in different places, appears differently in all its stages, and even makes us believe it has gone on its way sometimes. When it’s all said and done, it stays with us. It sticks with us. It becomes part of our identity. It helps us make decisions. It keeps us from making repeated mistakes. It navigates our lives for the rest of our lives.”

That passage alone reminded me that life isn’t easy, no matter how happy one may seem. And throughout the book, Grey drops lines that feel like truths you want to hold onto:

“For your attentiveness. Your attention to detail. Your delicacy. Your gentleness. Your curiosity. Your willingness to explore. Your ability to love even when the capacity was limited. Your vulnerability even though it’s hard. Your wisdom. Your Everything. If I had the chance to do this all again, I wouldn’t change a thing.”

“Fucking a nigga on the rise was the quickest downfall of a woman who was already seated on her throne. I’d seen it too many times before. It was rare, very rare, a queen entertained a peasant and it turned out in her favor.”

“Books are hardly open. You have to open them yourself. Read them for your own understanding. In time, you will.”

These moments made me stop, reread, and sit with the words because Grey isn’t just telling a story, she’s leaving pieces of wisdom tucked into every turn of the plot.

By the end, I had cried more times than I can count. The journey was painful, the choices messy, and the love imperfect, but what stood out most was forgiveness. Everyone was changed by the end scarred, yes, but also softer, stronger, and ready to move forward. And I closed the book with that bittersweet ache: sadness that it was over, but gratitude for the experience.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ — A book that made me feel everything. And I cannot wait to continue the series.

Grey Huffington has done it again!

WORTH THE MISSED SLEEP! Worth the wait! Just plain worth it.

Chemistry is a dream and a wish of a man. His heart for his siblings and those he loves shows. It leaps from the pages.

You feel the connection between him and Egypt IMMEDIATELY. I felt like a voyeur watching their love story unfold.

Amazing. I can’t wait to read the next one!

This was my first Grey Huffington book and it will not be my last… I was hooked from The very beginning. The story telling was perfection and different from most other books I’ve read. Then the plot!! I was on my toes the whole time waiting for the other shoe to drop. Chemistry was scaring me . I knew he felt this world wind love with Eden (Egypt), but I kept saying “he’s too smart not to have figured out her secret.” I was on pins & needles loving their love story but scared she was going to ruin his heart. I won’t give any spoilers, but I was not prepared for the ending I was expecting it to end not in Egypts favor, I also have not decided how I feel about it lol. I love Chemistry. He was so sweet, smart, thoughtful and manly!! They don’t make em like that no more. This was a fantastic read !!! Ready to see what’s next!! I love all the names. And how all the women were smart and good at their craft !!! This was absolutely fantastic.

3.75 ⭐️

(potential spoilers ahead. you've been warned.)

now, this was a solid read. but in my opinion, i felt like i needed just a bit more to really get it over to 4 stars. so 3.75 is what i feel is most appropriate for my rating.

the characters were fun and fresh (and let's not forget, stressful!), and the overall storyline was unique and intriguing. but sometimes i felt like it wasn't gritty or deep enough for me to truly immerse myself into the universe.

i am a reader who loves to imagine myself in the universe, experiencing everything with the characters, but this book made this harder for me than usual. idk if it was because it felt a little wordy at times (not in a bad way, more like in a poetic way) or if it was something else, but yeah.

now, i hope this review wasn't too negative (?), i really enjoyed this book but it fell flat for me in some parts. that being said, i'm so excited to get into rather's book, jumping straight into it! <33
