In a world like ours—except there's elves and goblins, so way better—Michael is dealing with some very human problems. He just fired his useless nephew as his tomb-raiding assistant.
On top of that, his uncle's fallen ill, so he's got to uproot his life to look after the business, an antique shop in the city. It's full of artifacts from the age of heroes. Swords, gems, and helmets galore.
There's just one hitch. There's only one employee, and she's a moody goth.
Fortunately, Serena the half-elf is a babe...but she's also completely insane. Her moody attitude soon warps into scary obsession, though that could come in handy when they have to work together to save the city from the grips of an evil relic's spell.
And if they succeed…can he fix her, or will they make each other worse?
A good story by Kirk Mason! I’ve seen his books on blogs around the internet, specifically the romance_for_men discord and Goodreads groups. The romance between the main characters was funny and really enjoyable, the only thing that hamstrung the story was the near unending pop culture references. The Elden Ring and Rick & Morty references kind of pulled me out of the story a little bit, but they by no means ruined it for me.
Also I find it kind of annoying that the book mentions several times that the FMC is super strong due to her Fantasy Species Strength, but it rarely gets utilized. Her character is clearly a stealth fighter, not a brawler. The only time it really gets utilized is in the latter half of the book when the FMC introduces BDSM into their relationship. Since she’s super strong and durable, she’s able to tolerate more pain in the bedroom despite the MMC’s hesitance.
I did like how obvious she tries to hide her affection towards the MMC at points. It was so sweet seeing her slowly warm up to him and pull herself out of her self-defeating mindset.
The juxtaposition between the terminally online homebody Drow Elf FMC and the adventurous Indiana Jones style treasure hunter was very cute as well. Both characters are likable and fun in their own way, so there’s always someone to root for in each chapter. Despite how angry the FMC can get, I never found myself disliking her.
If you’re into goth girls with wildly aggressive mood swings and obsessive personalities then this is totally the book for you!
I would want a moody goth girlfriend until now as I started reading this book. So far the storyline has been great, pretty laid back and not intense. So it's been a nice read. The characters seem pretty well written and I don't have any complaints there as I've enjoyed finding out about them and watching them learn to work together. The moodiness of Serena took a minute for me to get used to, but I really enjoy it now. I would definitely recommend picking this book up and reading it if you want something simple with a moody goth girl in it. Edit:Just got to Serena's kinky part and all I can say is Michael's going to have fun!
This is definitely a fun read. It plays out as a monogamous romance between two interesting and quirky characters. It’s very well written and the dialogue leaves you either laughing or feeling all warm and fuzzy inside. I wish we had more books like these.
Loved the two main characters and the way they interacted. Would heaved liked more interaction with mom and dad, including background on the drow race. Expansion on the Knightseekers would also be great. This was a great story/book all on its own, yet it spoils also work as the first book in a series!
