Cruel Mate

Rate this book
He’s obsessed with bullying me. And with getting me pregnant…
He taunts me until I almost collapse. He torments me until I almost break.
But suddenly, the black ops beast inside of him changes tactics and turns possessive of me.
And when he’s done, he claims me and my pregnant belly as his alone.

He triggers memories of a painful, abusive past that I would like to forget.
I’ve tried to avoid him, but he carries me off to an isolated cabin in the mountains.
And inside that cabin, I can no longer avoid the vicious lashing of his tongue.
Inside that cabin, I can no longer avoid the addictive heat of his body.

The cruel words he spoke are covered by intense, deep kisses.
The deep wounds he inflicted are healed by slow, rough strokes.
I lay on the dirty sheets as he teases my body until it’s at breaking point.
And all the while I ask Is this black ops wolf my tormentor?

Or is he the baby daddy that I crave?

The Nightstar Black Ops Wolves are wild, raw, and untamed. This listen to the primal urges inside, to the wolf that tells Claim her, protect her, and make her MINE.

I read this in record time. Book 2 of the series features Zander, who is Jack's beta. Zander was a member of the same pack Jack came from and he followed his friend into the service, and back out. He is convinced that he will never find his mate and settle down like Jack has and since he has no problem getting attention from the ladies, he is OK with that. Returning from a mission one full-moon night, he finds himself focused on one particular scent. Layla is one of the packs messengers who carries important missives between packs to keep them from the prying eyes of internet hackers. Zander can't help going a bit overboard with his possessive actions when he sees Layla getting attention from his packmates and even some of the local human males.

Layla is not happy with the bullying Zander seems to excel at on the night of the full-moon gathering and she isn't afraid to tell him so. Unfortunately, this draws way more attention to her than she is comfortable with. She volunteers for a messenger job the next day to get herself out of town for a day, but unknown wolves harass and follow her out of the town she was sent to and attack her before she can reach home. Of course, who shows up to rescue her? Zander. Ugh.

These two have issues. So they be able to admit they are mates and give each other a chance? Or will fate have to give them a little push? I was given an advanced copy of this book by the author. My review is voluntary.

It was alright!

H: Zander Mallox (beta)
h: Layla Keely (Messenger)
They felt an instant connection which they couldn't understand. Layla is a messenger between packs which means that instead of the pack alpha phoning or sending a mail/txt or email, they send a  mail women aka messenger on her own by herself (so weird) I didn't read book 1 which seems to be the whole fight against the previous alpha of this pack where this new alpha (I don't remember his name) and is also Zander's good friend and beta of the alpha. In her last messenger trip she got attacked and Zander saves her and that's when they both realized they are fated mates but neither of them said anything. (why?!?!?) After he saves her they slept together and she ends up pregnant. Then comes her ex who is an Alpha of another pack and decides to take her back. Her Ex pack is the one that attacks her when Zander saves her and even after knowing this the Nighstar alpha (Zander's friend) decided to let them stay the night, knowing the threat and the disrespect they have caused. I find this pack weak and because of that it caused the kidnapping of Layla. I really didn't like it. The only thing I liked is that it was a quick read.

Amazing!

I loved this book! The second in the Nightstar Black Ops Wolves series, this one is Zander and Layla’s story. He’s the pack Beta and she’s a pack messenger and was a member of the old pack. Their relationship is very adversarial in the beginning but as the story progresses, that slowly begins to change. It starts when she is in danger returning from a delivery to a nearby pack. Zander jumps in to save her and it will change both their lives. He will finally realize what she means to him and will do his best to be patient with her and prove to her that he cares for her. There is danger when a member of the old pack and an ex boyfriend of Layla’s comes back to town but the Nightstar pack will band together and do what it takes to keep their pack safe. It will lead to the ultimate showdown between Zander and Layla’s ex, Christian, who is Alpha of his own pack. When the smoke clears, Zander and Layla will be free to follow the path to their happily ever after! I love this series and can’t wait to read what comes next!

I read an ARC copy of this book and am volunteering my honest review.

OH WOW this story was AWESOME!!!! It was a steamy page turner and the suspense was intense. I was on the edge of my seat and I couldn't even put it down literally. Hanson and Elena chemistry between them was sensation and in a romance moment. As the physical tension between them was spicy hot could he ever love her in creating a life with as well maybe a family. Life is going to be chaos in a romance moment it might be danger when his clan finds out.
I highly recommend this book and you won't be disappointed. I received advance copy of this book via Bookfunnel and am voluntarily leaving my honest review. Trina Jones

Cruel Mate is book two in the series Nightstar Black Ops Wolves by author Mia Wolf. This one is fast paced & gritty. I’m kind of sensing a theme with this series, apparently the male wolves didn’t come from a great pack to begin with now they broke from that pack, but they still have lingering a$$holy ways. lol is that even a word? Oh well. This one it seems to learn his lesson but there are still obstacles, big obstacles in the way. I like the way the female wolf is portrayed, she’s feisty. She knows what she wants. There are some heated up moments - yummy.
Enjoy !!

Cruel Mate #2

I feel that the title is a misnomer. Cruel is not the description of Zander. There's others in this story that are definitely cruel. Layla was the type to create a situation in the beginning of story but later changed. The author has written realistic events that would happen in normal circumstances within a wolf pack

At 1st they fought quite a bit, but why? Could it b cause of hidden feelings creating up or cause they really did despise each other cause they clash so much? A 1 x meeting can change things but is it 4 the better or worse when the past comes 2 bite them in the ass? Read and find out. It was pretty good. There's a couple spots I didn't quite get but overall it was really good.

Zander and Layla

More trouble spring up for the Nightstar pack as attacks are made on Layla as she carries out her messenger duties. Old enemies are threatening and Zander, as beta is deeply involved.

Cruel Mate

Good read. I loved Layla. Her confidence and stubbornness made her who she was after her abusive ex. Zander was stubborn as well. He wanted Layla and he wasn't going to quit until he had her. This was a good read.
