Book 3 of a Cozy Fantasy Series filled with love, laughter, epic fantasy, and a little melancholy. Beers & Beards balances epic fantasy & slice-of-life with charm aplenty and a charisma score high enough to make a bard blush. It doesn't matter if you like beer or not, this is set to fill your need for comforting stories.
Holy cow the third book of this series is amazing, as you could see from the title of my review I had a hard time putting it down until it was finished.
This is what cozies are all about! Of course Peter, Pete is still working on making the beer better than the awful True Brew the dwarves have been drinking for the last millennium, to dig them outta the rut, and break the Brewers Guild hold! Making beer Free for everyone, to use enjoy, and even make! After winning the Best Brewery Award for their hometown it's time to go to the capital and enter the tournament for the world championship! This is the story of that adventure! Makin a beer that might knock dwarves for a loop. Additionally there could even be monsters to fight! So yeah grab the book a 🍺 and sit back for a Fun time...
Here's a couple three quotes:
"Eh, wombat, wallaby, same difference. It was just another garden-variety Aussie murder marsupial. It looked like a squash-faced disproportion kangaroo..."
All liquids are technically drinkable. If Bud Light can be a drink, so can lamp oil.”
"They liked it! They really, really liked it! Everyone Hop on Pete’s Crazy Train!!! Ozzy Osbourne’s got nothing on me! All aboooooard!!!!"
I have had so much fun reading this! Pete is such an excellent character and his friends are great folk! The story is interesting with a clever plot and interesting, fun, smart, dialog.
The world is rich with deep back story. The gods are fun and mischievous with their plots and petty jealousies. The author has created a believable fantasy world that works and makes sense. The races are all unique and each has distinctive traits. The social system is well thought out and realistic. The Interludes are strong and help advance the story and keep it interesting. I enjoyed very much Pete’s reminiscences of his family, his Earthly brewing days and Canada.
Erd is a place that I would love to visit and Pete is someone with whom I’d love to sit and drink and brew with! I look forward to the fourth book!
This series has been great thus far. My only issue has been with Pete having no real fighting skills as a dwarf, and his dad jokes are completely awful. But I love all the other humor in the book, and I love reading about the other Thirsty Goat family. Im not a big fan of Tourmaline\Wreck; there's just something about her nobility air and her straightforwardness that comes across as rude. I know that Pete wants a relationship but I've enjoyed him being single and focused on his beer and businesses. Though I do miss Whistlemop and Copperpot in this book. Though it seem like boom 4 will be bringing more intrigue and drama for Pete.
I love this series so very much! My husband and I like listening to the audiobooks together, can’t wait for this one to be released in audio. However, there are quite a few editing/punctuation errors and mix ups of what character is involved. I think at one point “Browning” was used instead of who Pete was actually talking to. Malt and Monk get swapped around near the end too.
I really loved reading this book. It was funny and entertaining. This has become one of my favorite series. The story and characters were incredibly interesting and engaging. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next. This book and series are definitely worth checking out.
The gang travel to the capital for the big brew off. There they meet old friends, get caught up in politics, and create new brews!
Still a fun series of lighthearted shenanigans and dad jokes. I love it. A the technical explanations of brewing add a great flavor to the story. The narrator is wonderful. Please enjoy
This book was silly, ridiculous, and absolutely entertaining. It was a refreshing and lighthearted break between some heavier reads I’ve been going through lately.
It doesn't take itself too seriously—and that’s exactly what made it so enjoyable. A fun, goofy little ride that made me smile more than once.
While this wasn’t quite as funny as the previous books the story progression more than made up for it. It even teases a bit about the MC potentially going to the surface and visiting the elves to more freely market his ales. Sounds like a blast to me. Can’t wait to see how the story will evolve.
Story: Decent and driven Characters: Interesting mix that sometimes clashes Relationships: Formed now but not a focus Pacing: Medium to Fast Spice: No Audience: D&D, beer Top Complaint: The relationships feel like they have fallen to the wayside and are no longer that important to the story any longer.
Warning, I'm a huge re-reader of books thus my feelings on them can change over time. Any future re-read opinions will be captured below.
