Three years have passed since Triana and Ty's failed honeymoon to Armstrong. Finally ready to try again, they've booked into an all-inclusive resort on Moghbeli Luna Major, where the water is warm, the drink-bots are preprogrammed, and all systems are green. Or so the holo-ads claim.
When they arrive, they find murderous seabirds, failing force shields, and a hotel owner in way over her head. And wait... is that a dinosaur?
The happy couple's long delayed vacation devolves into a mad scramble to save the resort, track down the bad guys, and save the creme brûlée. And maybe ride the water slide before they head home. If they make it that far.
Author of the Colonial Exploration Corps, Space Janitor, Recycled World, and Krimson Empire series.
I grew up in the US Pacific Northwest, and after twenty years roaming the country with the US Air Force, I'm back. I have a spouse, three kids, and a dog named Pippin.
I've been an IT guy, a choir director, an executive assistant, a stay-at-home mom, a college instructor, and that lady at the information booth in a tourist town. But writer is the best job ever, because I get to make stuff up. Stuff I wish were true; stuff I'm glad isn't true.
When I'm not writing, I like to knit, read, bake, and ski. I also love to travel.
Sera Morgan and her husband, Ty O’Neill are taking their second attempt at a honeymoon. Morgan is pregnant with triplets and is not having fun. But they are booked in to Lacerta Resort, on a tropical planet and anticipating a relaxing time.
Who could have imagined that they would be facing bird-like creatures who dive bomb them only to deposit multicolored guano while screeching loudly. Or mossy looking terrain by the boardwalks that are forty foot deep quick swamps. And this is all before they check in.
Julia Huni concocts an absolutely hysterically funny science fiction mystery. Sun Spot Remover is full of fascinating characters, startling wildlife and nefarious syndicates trying to interfere with the legitimate running of a business.
I found myself reading passages of the book to my husband just to make him laugh as hard as I was laughing. You won't regret getting on the Julia Huni train, get this book!
I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
High level couple visit terraformed moon for second honeymoon and adventure - 4.5 stars
As a high-level person, you are not only super wealthy, but smart and highly skilled. Sera Morgan is a top level; she is six weeks pregnant with triplets. Her husband Ser O'Neill's day job is in the security profession. The small moon with the resort Lacerta Station may be Sera's last fling for a while. Lacerta Station features earth like gravity and draghins (fish eating animals that resemble dinosaurs).
The resort has many amenities but has been troubled by glitches in their computer-controlled equipment. Since Sera Morgan has been a skilled computer person, who jumps into working on the computer problems and uncovers a mystery stretching back several years.
The resort focuses on being a resort targeted to wealthy guests. The story offers humor based on the early pregnancy woes of the always hungry mother to be and focuses attention on a stressed out brother and sister who are trying to run the resort on their own. There is a PVD (programmable visual disruption field) wearable unit that allows impersonation of any human so that bluffing and false identities can be played out on demand.
The moon, while livable, has long days and nights, well over 24 hours in duration. The environment had to be adjusted to make it seem normal to the wealthy guests. Fun and games at the resort go beyond great food, swimming pools, and attention to personal needs with a draghin show including draghin-back rides and throw and catch games with the youngest animals.
Trouble is evident behind the scenes. It seems that a nasty hacker is preparing to cause harm to guests and close down the resort. With the help of Sera Morgan, some of the mysteries slowly unravel. You will be treated to several surprises; the vignettes of impersonation and fakery are convincingly explained. I predict that you will want to travel to Lacerta Station as soon as interstellar travel is possible. In the meantime, let your imagination soar.
It’s been a little while since Ty and Triana’s last adventure where they attempted to go on their honeymoon but ended up in a different dimension.
Like, who does that? 😂 It only happens to Triana. I love it. Lol. So here they are three years later on take two of their honeymoon before they have a very big life change. This time they’re headed to a tropical resort, but if you think they’re going to have a nice, relaxing time and a completely normal vacation, you’d be wrong. Trouble follows Triana wherever she goes, and honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way. Lol. This series is just the best. I love how Ty and Triana are so selfless and helped out the poor resort owners save their hotel from the bad guys. The mystery itself was interesting enough and I was definitely surprised at the turn of events. Plus, we had some really good action there at the end. Triana is so smart and resourceful—it’s one of the things I love about her!
This was just a really fun adventure with mystery hackers, failing force shields, murderous doo doo birds (lol), and freaking DINOSAURS! I mean, draghins. Excuse me. Lol. I love how silly this series gets. It’s so fun!
And the fact that Ty and Triana are still so freaking cute together after being married for five years now... I love it! I’m looking forward to whatever comes next for the couple because I'm expecting it to be even more chaotic than usual! I can’t wait! 😆
What a treat to be reunited with our favourite (former) Space Janitor. We catch up on Triana and Ty 3 years on when they decide to have the honeymoon they missed out on the first time around. Triana is now pregnant and rest, relaxation and spa treatments in a tropical location are just what's required. Indications on arrival though are not heading towards a time of relaxation, no meet and greet, large birds intent on bombing them with their guano and faulty forcefields are just the start.
Secrets are unhidden, 'dinosaurs' are ridden and just never know when your hacking skills are going to be needed, hmm or that tranq ring hidden in your waistband.
As far as Triana is concerned best honeymoon ever.
The story is not rushed through to its conclusion as many books are these days, there is plenty of development and some twists thrown in, and at the end, the bad guys are down for the count. Time for Triana and Ty to put their feet up and make sure the pregnant lady does not miss any more meals.
This review is given after receiving an ARC though I would have happily bought this book to read and kept.
I finished reading my ARC yesterday, so that puts me near the front of the line to write a review. Like most stories Triana gets into, the first few pages seem normal enough and then something goes sideways. Just a bit at first, but then the sideways stuff starts to go sideways and takes everything else with it!
As always, its fun to follow along with the light hearted adventure, watch the investigation get underway, and finally get it all sorted out. This time they are making a second attempt at a honeymoon, and then there are the dinosaurs, I mean drahgins.
And that's as close to a spoiler as I want to get. If you've read all the stories from The Vacuum of Space (although that one will probably always be Murder is Messy to me) and all the rest, you know what you are in for. If not, this book COULD be read as a stand alone, but I think you really should read a couple of the others first, as there are important events in the past that are referenced just enough to make sense, but are not in depth enough that you will feel like you have the whole story.
So once again, fun, light, easy, and pretty quick to read. Don't miss it!
There aren't too many authors (that I know of) who write a good, suspenseful story with humor successfully woven in. Julia Huni is one, and you're in a for a treat if you like your sci-fi with snark and wit. I'm always thrilled when Ms. Huni has a new book out and this one doesn't disappoint! Ty and Triana are on their honeymoon at a really fancy place, but something isn't quite right, from their arrival site to the nasty birds. By accident they get behind the scenes, and what they discover causes them to - you guessed it - investigate. You can read this without any previous knowledge, but the background and characters will be fuller if you start earlier. - I received a review copy and freely leave this honest review.
Please begin with The Vacuum of Space, and read Triana's books in order, both to understand the backstory and for the fun of experiencing the zaniness of Triana's life. Bad stuff happens in Remover; unexpected betrayal made me sad, and Triana and I both had mini-panic attacks as an old nightmare reared its ugly head. But there are DRAHGINS!! And they are awesome and hilarious (and I want one). Triana and Ty demonstrate their skills, their great partnership, and their willingness to help. I love all of Triana's books and highly recommend them. The worldbuilding is fantastic, the stories are well-written and entertaining, and the (good) characters are loveable.
I really enjoyed this book, it seems like a very long time since Triana and Ty have had a book released! The central characters of this series are such fun to read about, I was afraid after their HEA we wouldn't hear any more from them so was very happy to see this new release. It did not disappoint, lots of misadventures and escapades, but some very engaging new characters, some of which weren't human! Well told, light hearted and humorous even with some violent encounters. I received an ARC and am happy to provide this voluntary recommendation. If I have a complaint it's that it was a very quick read! Looking forward to more in the series (hint hint!)
Time for Ty and Triana to try again on their interrupted Honeymoon. This one is carefully planed out and booked by Hy-Mi, so things should go smoothly this time. Then again, with Trina around, what' the chance of that?
Lots of fun for all of us who have been following these stories. Not much that I would call unexpected (at least given who we are talking about), but a good story all the same.
Given some hints in the story, I suspect we will be seeing this resort again sometime in the future.
If Triana and Ty’s first attempt at a honeymoon was a doozie, the second time around does not go any smoother… But where would be the fun for us readers if it ever did? :)
This new adventure fits in perfectly with the rest of the series: once more, Triana manages to get herself into one hilarious and absurd situation after the next. I truly enjoy these madcap adventures, the quirky cast of characters, and - of course - the popculture (pardon: Ancient TeVe) references,
This is another fun story in the Former Space Janitor series. The main characters are on their previous interrupted and long delayed honeymoon. The author brings us to another new planet in her universe and builds the world out very nicely. As in all her books, there is humour, mystery and twists. The series has been a fun and easy read with a good dose of humour thrown in. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and hope for the author to write more books in this series (hint, hint!). I gave it 5 stars as it as I enjoy the main characters, it is well written and an enjoyable read.
Proper Sci-Fi, yet still very lighthearted, making this a great, uplifting read. If you like Sci-Fi but don't want a long military tale, or space opera, but just want to be amused and cheered up, then this series will always do that for you, and this is a particularly fine example of it! Another honeymoon, another ...? Interesting setting, great characters, and fantastic animals. Regarding Triana herself, things have certainly been set up for a riveting future, which I cannot wait to read!
Book 5 in the Tales of a Former Space Janitor. Following the adventures of Triana and Ty as they try for a romantic holiday on a vacation planet. They come across “dinosaurs” and old enemies in another fun book. Themes and technology follow on from Julia Huni’s companion series of excellent books. Another great and funny read.
I really enjoy the Triana stories. They are so real and so much fun. This vacation was right up her sleeve. I also like how her character has grown over the years and in this book with dinosaurs how can you go wrong! I belong to a Star Trek club and they are always the first to hear about these amazing stories.
This was not the honeymoon they expected. But luckily for the resort, Triana and O'Neill are on the case. This is such a fun series. I love the characters. Triana is a gem, and O'Neill is perfect for her. He does his best to protect her, and doesn't try to change her. Each book has its own unique mystery and setting.
Brilliant! Once again Julia Huni has written an amusing, interesting & completely absorbing sci fi adventure! A great addition to this well written series! Excellent story ideas, I do love all of these books & I strongly recommend!
This whole series has been great (actually several series now, plus shorter side pieces), but this one was pure enjoyment. I would love to be BFFs with Triana! Definitely an exciting adventure, and well worth your time.
Another great book in a great series, actually two series. There are only two problems with these books. They need to be ten times longer and the series need ten times as many books in them.
Triana and Ty are on another adventure, let's try a second honeymoon what could go wrong they had a;; the bad luck last time correct. If only that was true :-). This a great series of books and keeps get better with each book.
Triana and Ty decide to go on their long delayed honeymoon to a resort. They quickly find out that the place is having serious problems and start to fix them but things keep getting worse. A great story.
Good story. I liked the "puppies". Pregnant with triplets. Our girl certainly can get into trouble. Even when on vacation. Enjoyable as stand alone book, but it is 5th in janitor series. Now, did I read book 4? Must have.
This book is a fun read for your own vacation. While it is in Book 5 of the series, it is still enjoyable if you read it first. Then, you'll be inspired to read the first 4 books in the series.
I love this series! Light and well written. Always enjoyable. I hope Julia Huni continues the adventures of Ty and Triana (and Vanti) for many years to come.
Another funny and captivating book, Julia Huni is definitely one of my favourite authors for humorous SciFi books with just the right amount of suspense!
