Grayson Sherbrooke's Otherworldly Adventures #7

The Night Creature at Storne Hope

Rate this book
Thomas Oliver Maxwell Strickland (Max), the newly minted 6th Earl of Storne, wakes in his London apartment to find a young child hiding in his armoire. The child, who calls herself Crispin, is a runaway, but refuses to tell him any more of her story. Max, hopeful to help the child, invites her to stay at his new home, Storne Hope castle.

At Belhaven, Grayson Sherbrooke and Pip are expecting a visit from P.C., Miranda, and Barnaby, who now goes by Brady since being reunited with their family. Grayson learns that Max is with them, and will be taking up residence at Storne Hope castle, which is nearby at Piper's Hill. Grayson tells the tragic history of Storne Hope and the ghost of Lady Hilda who still roams the rooms and halls of the residence.

When one night Crispin claims that she has been visited by Lady Hilda, Max enlists the help of Grayson to further understand the child's secrets, and why Lady Hilda would take any interest. Grayson quickly learns the child hides a startling power, and that the evil she is running from is more terrifying and relentless than anyone could have imagined.

I have thoroughly enjoyed this series of Paranormal Historical Mystery novellas. Catherine Coulter started as a Historical Romance author, and I love seeing her return to her roots. This one was not as good as the others in the series, but still well worth an afternoon far away from whatever your life is. The children's characters are just adorable and so smart. Grayson Sherbrooke is a master of the paranormal.

When looking for a new shirt, Max, Thomas Oliver Maxwell Strickland, the newly minted 6th Earl of Storne, finds a young girl hiding in his armoire. She is obviously of good family but scared to death to tell Max anything. She calls herself Crispin and Max decides that the best thing he can do is protect her, so they take a trip to his castle. Storne Hope castle is near Belhaven, the home of Grayson Sherbrooke.

Max sends word to Grayson about his charge and her unwillingness to tell her story. What attracts Grayson's attention is that she can see Lady Hilda, Storne Hope castle's resident ghost. As Chrispin's tale unfolds, Grayson's skill with the paranormal is needed to protect the child and vanquish the evil night creature of Storne Hope.

This was a moody installment for Grayson Sherbrooke's Otherworldy Adventures!

A foul spirit inhabited a peer of the realm. It was up to Grayson and Lily, a young girl, to banish it to the otherworld where it belonged. Thankfully, all ended well for all the characters!

Now we added a couple more people to the "found family," with Grayson at its center! Since these stories come out every so often, I forget all the character's names and who is related to whom. I'm glad Coulter does a decent job of recapping in the first chapter or so.

Catherine Coulter's Sherbrooke series is so fun! There are elements of all her books in novella form with romance, humor, "creatures" and all the stuff you must want to read. A young girl appears in the shirt stack of Max's armoire - not the nifty cat Clovis. Turns out she's a budding witch hiding out from the demon who has taken over her uncle's body. Not to worry - Grayson Sherbrooke is a friend of Max's and knows just what to do. Just read it for the fun!!!

Awesome ghost and demon story

Those familiar with the Sherbrooke family will know that there are ghosts involved, be it directly or indirectly. With Grayson Sherbrooke, this is only pushed to another level, and the wizard’s last adventure is a really fun treat, that I enjoyed from start to finish, making me wish that there will be more at some point down the line.

The Night Creature at Storne Hope

What a delightful tale from a master storyteller. Makes me want to go back to the Sherbrooke Bride and read back through everything and become reacquainted.

creatures from the beyond

Wizards, witches, and demons abound in this novel. Castles and entertaining children and servants fill this story. You read with anticipation as the story unfolds. Scary things happen but in the end all gets resolved.
