This was the greenest of green flags to ever green flag. Shin Tae-oh is such a kind and gentle person that even when he was pursuing Yoo Jin-ha, I was still rooting for him. He spent his whole life being the second male lead and was shockingly aware of his role as the side character. It was an interesting insight into his character to see how he viewed his own existence and the hopelessness surrounding his love life. He wasn’t as confident as I would have expected, but that made him more likable.
Ahn Se-hyun was a great protagonist. He tried so hard to be detached from the story, due to his background knowledge of this being a novel, but he ultimately couldn’t. He grew too attached to his boss, Shin Tae-oh, upon seeing how stable and conscientious he was. I liked that the qualities he was attracted to were domestic things such as security and stability. It demonstrated his insecurities, which made him feel very realistic.
The reason I rated this lower was simply because there was no plot, but the characters single-handedly brought it up.
I thought ohh cute office romance… 100 pages in MC’s suddenly in heat. It’s a Korean novel so I should have expected ABO but still I was surprised… good for me I like the omegaverse. At the end even with the addition of ABO I got what I was searching for cute office Romance. I would have done things different especially the ending but I mean less drama is also fine. I recommend
English title: The Sub-Gong Is Being Rejected Today As Well
This was an OK read. That's both the good thing and bad thing about it, it's just... OK. The translation I read wasn't particularly good, so that might have affected my opinion.
Aside from the poor translation, the story itself was pretty standard. ML liked someone else and suddenly realised he actually liked the MC all along. MC was reluctant because he thought not following the original plot would ruin things, yet he never shut down the ML's advances out of sympathy. So... pretty standard, there was nothing new there.
The world had a number of side characters such that it felt more lively, but it didn't matter since everyone was 2-dimensional. They were there to fill a certain role (friend/secretary/etc) and there was nothing beyond that. I thought even a new character introduced in the side story could be removed, as he didn't fulfill any purpose. And the villain/rival character fell for MC from 1 act of kindness, which was like... sure, OK.
Fluffy vanilla romance would be the reason you read this. Because relatively speaking, it's smooth sailing with no drama or twist. The only obstacle was the pull-push dynamic the MC had. And speaking of the MC, he wanted to stay away from the villain which he considered dangerous, and yet he kept going to meet the villain alone...??? And the villain was redeemed, but it was such a lackluster redemption that I wondered... why bother? Maybe it's just to show off how good of a person the MC was.
It was about the 75% mark when I found myself thinking "it's not over yet???" because truthfully the story felt like it was just dragging along.
I first MTL'd this at a pace of one chapter per day when the webtoon promo was just released. I'm so glad I finally got to finish it! I still like it just as much as I did back then. Ahn Se-hyun is practical, and Shin Tae-oh is hopelessly in love. It was funny reading Ahn Se-hyun's thoughts when he was still delivering Tae-oh's gifts to Jinha, and when he was still ruminating on his feelings. Ah, I really really like that their affections are equally matched in the end. The side stories were also really sweet!
