Beyond the veil of our world, the supernatural teeter on the edge of destiny.
A frosted heart.
Noa Drake’s life is perfectly ordinary - just another introvert with unresolved issues buried beneath clouds of smoke and alcohol. Haunted by her mother’s tragic murder, she turns to tarot card readings and communing with the spirit world to seek help. As she searches for her mother’s killers, Noa discovers that even spirits don’t have all the answers, and she fears her only choice is to return home - where it all began.
A mind of torment.
But when a psychic reading on her twenty-fifth birthday pulls her into a trance, Noa's world begins to unravel. Dormant powers awaken within her, and she learns that the fate of the world rests in her hands. Not to mention, her best friends aren’t quite human, sinister forces are hunting her, and a strange man infiltrates her mind.
Secrets unfrozen are too hard to keep.
Propelled further into a world where she is desperate to uncover the truth, Noa sets out to avenge her mother’s death and decipher the meaning of her visions. While navigating her newfound powers, supernatural enemies lurk in the shadows, vowing to claim her and the secrets she holds. She must race to save herself and all of humankind, or she risks losing everything as the world succumbs to evil while enslaved by its side.
Frosted Torment is the first installment of an electrifying new adult urban fantasy trilogy packed with paranormal powers, dark angels, and a slow-burn forbidden romance. From immortal love to elemental magic, this series embodies the best of urban fantasy.
E. L. Valentine is a an author of fantasy, urban fantasy, and fantasy romance and holds a degree in Psychology from the University of Houston. She lives in Texas with her husband, their youngest child, and fur-babies where she began her career as an English teacher. When she isn’t slumped over a desk turning her enthusiastic imagination into stories, she’s reading, watching movies, or vacationing anywhere she can sink her toes into the sand.
This was amazing! I loved every minute of this wild ride! Noa’s character development was just impressive. The author weaves an interesting tale and gives you small pieces as not to spoil the whole thing. The ending though——- leaves you wanting so much more!
I really enjoyed this book. I love the fallen angels, the main female her having a toe in the supernatural world and then being pushed into it but that ending dammit I want more.
I started this book months ago and life lifing and commitments …just ugh
But I went back to this book a few days ago and started it fresh and I’m so glad I did.
This truly unique urban fantasy world building that Valentine weaved to shape Noa’s story is just one of the amazing elements.
You’ve got Noa our FMC Who, after her mother’s tragic and mysterious demise slips into substance addiction. Then from there she’s thrown into a supernatural war thrust head first into the fact that creatures like demons, wolf shifters, fallen angels, ghosts and more exist and that she has a large roll to play.
There’s a very forbidden romance element to this book with a mysterious male who invades her mind you’ll have to read to find out more but it certainly gets your mind working.
Noa has an amazing character arc in this book great character development with hard traumatic hurdles she overcomes,
Overall, I would give this book a solid 5⭐️ and it certainly got me eager for the next book which I believe is due out in August. Looking forward to it and you’ve got time to check this one out before the second on lands. What a great debut!
Loved this one!! Noa's world is turned upside down when she finds out Angels and Demons are real, and she is about to play a major role in their world! Fast paced story. Angel's, demons, humans, and a battle of good vs. evil! Looking forward to the next one!!!
I absolutely adored this book! The main characters Noa is structure with life after her mothers death and is relying on substances to cope with but soon as her normal life takes a turn and shd figures out that angels and demons exist. Her character development was absolutely great!
The plot was mysterious in the beginning and i loved seeing how all the information unraveled and gave me small pieces to workout with and put to together as the story went on! Also the tension between characters and the different type of relationship and betrayal oh my. So good!
E.L. Valentine has writen an amazing book with some amazing writing as well as plot for it to be her debute novel! Absolutely can't wait for book 2 ❤️
Thank you E.L. Valentine for an arc copy in exchange of an honest review!
✨If you’re looking for a new fast paced urban fantasy to dive into then you should definitely check out Frost Torment by E.L. Valentine. I was definitely intrigued from the beginning with this complex story line and seeing all the pieces come together. And I can honestly say that I could not guess where this story was going and was surprised by some of the things revealed. I also really loved Noa’s character development throughout the book despite her struggles with addiction and a mysterious past. Her life was flipped upside down and she was thrown into this paranormal world, and on top of all of that finding out she is a very important key element in this story for the fate of her and all of humankind.

🚨Warning! This book does end on a cliffhanger and it’s one that I’m STILL thinking about lol I cannot wait for the next book to see how this story plays out.
E.L. Valentine's Frosted Torment is an absolute triumph of the urban fantasy genre! From the very first page, I was completely captivated by Noa Drake and her complex, intriguing world. This book has it all: paranormal powers, dark secrets, angels (and not the fluffy kind!), and a slow-burn romance that will leave you breathless.
Noa is a fantastic protagonist flawed, relatable, and fiercely determined. You feel her grief, her confusion, and her growing power as she navigates the dangerous supernatural landscape that's suddenly thrust upon her. The author does an incredible job of crafting a character you root for, even as she makes questionable (but understandable!) decisions.
The plot is expertly paced, keeping you on the edge of your seat with each shocking revelation and perilous encounter. The mystery surrounding Noa's mother's murder and the awakening of her powers is compelling, and the world-building is richly detailed without feeling overwhelming. Valentine seamlessly blends the mundane with the magical, creating a believable and immersive urban fantasy setting.
And let's talk about the romance! The "forbidden" aspect adds a delicious layer of tension and intrigue, making you crave more with every interaction. The chemistry between Noa and the mysterious man who infiltrates her mind is palpable, and I'm already desperate to see where their relationship goes in the next installment.
Frosted Torment is more than just a great urban fantasy novel; it's a story about self-discovery, facing your fears, and embracing your destiny. It's a must read for fans of the genre, and I can't wait to see what E.L. Valentine has in store for us in the rest of this electrifying trilogy! Highly recommended!
"I will do everything I can to protect you. Always."
Fallen angels, demons and wolf shifters, family legacies and lineage, found family and twisted allegiances, chosen one and secrets that could unravel the universe, slow burn romance and fated mates, betrayal and forgiveness... this story is unlike anything I have read before. This is a true good vs evil with morally grey characters, villains who are absolutely detestable and an FMC who struggles with anxiety but doesn't let it define who she is.
This story follows Noa, the FMC who can see and communicate with spirits. After the death of her mother in a house fire that the police deem an accident, Noa is determined to find those responsible for her mother's murder and bring them to justice. Reluctantly she agrees to attend a fancy party with her best friends Ivy, Jossy and Lex. When Ivy finds that there is a psychic offering readings at the party, Ivy convinces her to give it a whirl. What Noa doesn't realize is that this reading will set off a chain of events, setting the course of her life in ways she could have never imagined. Betrayal from those she holds dearest and those she just met mixed with guardian angels, demons and the truth of who she is, send her into a spiral as she adjusts to the realization that the fate of her family hang in the balance of challenges that she must face.
Although it took me a hot min to wrap my head around what was going on, I was sucked in and had trouble putting the book down. There is little romance, but it comes from the places you would least expect it (in the best of ways). I love how the mystery of it all kept me guessing and captivated. The ending will smack you out of nowhere, so watch out... it's a definite doozy! I need book 2 like I need air to breathe!!!!!!
“How far are you willing to go?” My gaze swept over him as the power surging through my veins urged me forward... “To the death.”
Fallen Angels, Demons, shifters, and elemental magic… there was a lot to unpack in this one but I loved it! Noa is our MFC and she has seen some shit… really… home girl has two besties that are ghosties! The story starts off with her wanting to find the ones responsible for the death of her mom and that search lands her smack dab in the middle of a war between heaven and hell! She finds out new things about her friends and herself along the way! And there were many moments where I was like wait now what did you just say?!?! I loved the new take on the magic system in this story! I can’t wait for book 2! There is no spice in this book… there is off page spice that is eluded to but nothing on page, there is promise of spice in books 2 & 3 though! There are mentions of self harm and drug and alcohol abuse in the book as well as stories of loss and grief. There is also a good bit of LGBTQ references including a gay angel. This doesn’t bother me but may be a pass for others so I wanted to mention it. All in all I enjoyed this book and I can’t wait to continue the series!
Frosted Torment is a vivid and mesmerizing dive into the darker edges of the supernatural world a story that blends urban fantasy, elemental magic, and forbidden love into something hauntingly original.
E.L. Valentine has created a heroine readers can’t forget: Noa Drake, whose grief and resilience drive a tale both intimate and cosmic. The story unfolds with cinematic energy one moment you’re caught in the flicker of tarot candles and spectral visions, and the next, you’re thrown into a realm of dark angels and ancient power.
What stands out most is the emotional realism beneath the fantasy. Beneath the battles and the powers, Frosted Torment is really about loss, rebirth, and the cost of carrying destiny on your shoulders. The prose is sharp yet lyrical, and Valentine’s worldbuilding rivals the scope of early Cassandra Clare and Leigh Bardugo, but with a psychological edge that feels wholly her own.
A stunning debut to the Marked Mortals Saga equal parts fierce, tender, and thrilling.
This should tell you all you need to know about this book: by the end… NOA wishes she could go back to her “normal” life of alcoholism/ weed and one night stands where two ghosts are talking to her on a daily…. Oooh the good old days when life was simple!
Paranormal, unhinged, and not remotely predictable story or dialogue… they said what?!? With reinvented ideas of fallen angels, guardian angels, other Christian lore.
Genre: Paranormal New Adult New Age
Formatting: The ebook came with some cute original art before book. And chapter pages have this lovely frost ornament on them. This is professionally put together.
Future reader’s Note: Not clean, possibly 20 to 30 profanity words, extremely mild spice- more inferred than on the page, gay angel, mysticism.
Fallen Angels, demons, and a FMC struggling with addiction seems to be a recipe for success in this book. Especially refreshing with an «older» FMC in 25 year old Noa, who bring forth real and relatable struggles.
The author does a great job combinig a fast paced storytelling with incredible suspence build. Twists and turns to throw you off just when you think you know whats happening. Throw in religious lore and artifacts, with a quest to save the world. Feels like Cassandra Clare’s the Mortal instruments series and Dan Browns books about Robert Langdon had a baby!
Definatly craving more after reading the last few pages…
Keywords: ✅25 y/o FMC ✅Angels ✅Enemies to lovers-ish/(More to come?) ✅Betrayals ✅Suspence ✅Plays on religious lore (Christian) ✅GREAT worldbuilding
This book is a must read for fans of fantasy with romantic undertones! It offers a refreshing narrative perspective that will leave a lasting impression. With its rapid fire pace and strong female lead, whose transformation is a powerful testament to her resilience, this story is an absolute page turner. This book is giving all the Supernatural (tv series) mixed Cassandra Clare's Shadowhunter series vibes. Fans of those series will truly enjoy this read. The author creates an overall, electrifying experience that concludes with a heart pounding cliffhanger, ensuring readers will be counting down the days until the sequel. Don’t sleep on this, highly recommend!!
From the moment I picked this book up, I could not put it down. Angels, demons, secret powers, forbidden love, I ate this book up. Slow burn romance that sort of comes out of nowhere. I’m still not sure if it is a single love interest or not because there is definitely potential for some experimentation on Noa’s behalf. There were a few bits of plot that were sort of left to the wayside in the beginning of the book but I’m sure, after that ending, it'll come back into the story with a flurry of activity. It does end on a cliffhanger but I enjoyed every minute of this and can’t wait for the next in the series.
3.5 stars I was given this as an ARC. E.L. Valentine did a wonderful job for a debut novel. The variety of forms that an angel could take after falling was impressive and well done. If you enjoy fallen angels and a unique storyline, then I would definitely recommend.
I do feel that this book needs some more editing for grammar and flow. Throughout the book, I would have to re-read a paragraph because I thought I had missed something. The transitions in conversation and actions could be abrupt and confusing (other than when a situation calls for the abruptness).
I look forward to reading more from E.L. Valentine ❄️
First book in this series and could not get enough of the story. I was so enthralled in this story, I could not put it down. I love the main character Noa and her fast relationship with Baz and the other characters. I loved how she grew into her strengths and grew into trusting her new friends and start trusting herself. I loved the story and world building and I cannot wait for the second book to see what happens to Noa.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily
Wish Goodreads would allow 3.75 cause that’s what I’d rate it! The concept of this book is great. Fallen angels, demons, spirits and souls?! You couldn’t ask for more. My biggest issue with the book is it gets a bit confusing at times because the lack of detail on what’s happening in that moment and it’s a fast past story. For example they’ll be in one room then all of a sudden in the a different one but I don’t recall it saying they moved, stuff like that. But other wise like I said the story is super intriguing and I’m looking forward to continuing with book two soon!
Really only 3 ½ stars. I found the first 10 chapter’s confusing, was about to put the book down and give up, but then it improved a bit. Lots of action and some interesting twists. The ending is a total cliffhanger with not an actual end to the book just finishes and then no more pages. Don’t think I will bother reading the next book. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I rated this three stars only because I fear that fast-paced stories are not my Jam. I just kept wishing for more information or backstory.
I did love the storyline for this though! E.L. does a great job of giving us just enough to keep us questioning what the hell is happening and who the hell are we supposed to trust within this group. And that Cliffhanger!!! For sure made sure I NEED to pick up book 2.
This debut novel by E. L. Valentine, about fallen angels, demons, and the supernatural war that Noa Drake finds herself in the center of is an absolute must read for fantasy lovers. Noa is battling her substance addictions, trying to find who was responsible for her mothers murder, and talking to her two best ghosts? I really appreciate how the author didn't stick to the norm for her fallen angels as some of them are LGBTQ aligned. The ending to this book left me very eager for the next one because I had so many questions that needed answered! I had the immense pleasure of arc reading this!
This is a new take on fallen angels that had so many twists and turns! I am really good about picking up on what is going to happen but not in this one!! Noa has ghosts, angel best friends, a cute bunny friend and so many new revelations thrown at her. She isn’t a “damsel in destress” and can hold her own with witty banter. Ends on a cliffhanger and I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book!!

Got this as an arc read. Illness and Life happened and it took me longer to read than anticipated. But I love this book. World and character building are a must for me. Love the fallen angel aspect. Can’t wait for the next one!
What a wild and electrifying ride! So much action and hints of potential spice, and twists and turns around every chapter! I am excited to read what happens next!
The take on angels, demons and end of the world was really good. FMC was kind of why me for half of the book then embraced her destiny. Great characters and world building. Look forward to book 2!
Noa struggles daily with the fact that her mom was killed and that her killer was never found....
She has been trying to figure it out on her own, but nothing has ever added up... until she does a psychic reading and information is brought to her attention.
All of a sudden, a world where angels and demons exist is pushed onto her, and she is thrown into a war she isn't prepared for.
Can Noa make it out the other side unscathed, or will she lose everyone and everything she's ever known?
Find out for yourself what happens next in this amazing debut book!
It’s absolutely incredible! So many twists thrown at you every few pages. Noa learns some crazy truths about her family, her friends her life. It took me a bit to read this but that was because I didn’t want to miss a thing and I annotated and highlighted the ever living daylight out of my copy! The cover is Gorgeous 😍😍. The journey it takes you on is amazing. It’s very descriptive, detailed, incredibly wittten, captivating, jaw dropping and you get so hooked you feel like you’re actually in the story!!
Msssss Valentine, I wish I could just watch the synapses of your brian work while you write. I can imagine them shooting, swirling, twisting around each other, over and over again, and working all their magic, much like the same magic reflected on these pages.
This fallen angel vs. demons urban fantasy does not just include the world building that falls under that one umbrella but so many more. You took multiple styles of fantasy worlds, encompassing them all into one, creating this amazing world of angels, demons, ghosts, psychics, and shape-shifters, while including various styles of magic. It was built so intricately, and my fantasy loving brain was just enthralled and ecstatic for it. I have needed something like this for a while.
The characters are relatable, the scenes descriptive, the action fast-paced, and that cliffhanger has me asking you if I can be on the ARC team for book 2.
