This is now the third Omnibus I read of Michelinie's work on Spider-Man, and you know what? It's still solid.

The first Omnibus had him teaming up with superstar Todd Mcfarlen, and that was before spawn. But even then you can see the greatness of the art coming through. Michelinie also had to keep the black suit but get rid of it and make it compelling, introducing our favorite crazy villain, VENOM! Since then the series has kept different villains coming through with venom (and in this volume, carnage) as a highlight of Michelinie's very long run.

This volume in particular introduces us to Carnage, who is by far some of the most fun we have in this series. Carnage and Venom are super weird, and sound very horny 90% of the time, which is scary and funny. I also loved venom and spidy forcing themselves to team up to take him down.

The rest of the series is mostly Peter dealing with everyday life and trying to balance his marriage with MJ. A new plot point is his parents return (FROM THE DEAD!?) and that is the weakest part of the whole series.

The backup stories are usually really good and give depth to Peter, Jonah, Harry and more. And the art? Well it's Mark, and he is top 3 spidy artist for me. His work here is great, and even better in Ultimate Spider-Man.

Overall this is very safe, but usually always atleast enjoyable run and I think this part is stronger than his run with Erik Larson, but not as fun as Todd. A 3.5 but I'll bump it to a 4.

Good omnibus, but not amazing unfortunately.
It gets off to a pretty boring start, and in fact does not have Mark Bagley pencils until over 135 pages into the book. I personally found the “Round Robin” chapters quite boring and couldn’t wait for it to end. It was just non-stop action with very little interesting narrative and dull dialogue.
The final chapter wasn’t too bad, and I was glad the book moved on to other better chapters.
I enjoyed the Cardiac two-parter and re-reading the first appearances of Carnage.
While Bagley’s artwork is still great for Spider-Man, you can tell it’s not a seasoned version of Bagley (as this is the beginning of his career in Spider-Man). While the art is good, the writing is pretty poor. I’m Not a fan of David Michelenie.
Just over the first half of the book is overall quite poor, but after the final chapter of the Hero Killers story; the book FINALLY gets interesting!
The issues are thankfully focused on Spider-Man again, and are normal/common Spidey stories (battling Shocker and Lizard etc.) and we also witness the mysterious return of Peter’s dead parents. At the same time, I felt like the art and writing massively improved. Bagley’s drawings of Spider-Man, Black Cat, Scorpion, Venom and the Lizard look particularly incredible!
I enjoyed the “Invasion of the Spider-Slayers” 6 parter, as well as re-reading the Venom finale, but it still wasn’t enough to save the book. I also wasn’t a fan of the side story for MJ being addicted to smoking; just seemed very unnecessary.
The book ends on a cliffhanger with Chameleon, which does make me excited to read the next book I have which continues this storyline!
Overall, decent book with a bad start but a good second half. Book build, printing and quality is top notch!

3.5/5.
The third Michelinie omnibus (after the ones with McFarlane and Larsen) and in terms of writing, it is the weakest. The stories are solid, but don't hit the highs of the previous omnibuses.

This is the era I read as a teenager so it brings back memories.

This omnibus was a bit of a mixed bag — but when it works, it really works.

David Michelinie’s writing in this era of Spider-Man has a classic, punchy feel. It’s very much a product of its time — late ’80s to early ’90s storytelling with lots of action, big emotions, and plenty of inner monologue. Mark Bagley’s art is dynamic and energetic, with some truly iconic panels. He brings a youthful intensity to Peter Parker that fits the tone perfectly.

Some stories in this volume are genuinely strong — emotional, tightly paced, and reflective of the best qualities of the character. The dynamic between Peter and Mary Jane feels alive, there are great moments of vulnerability, and the rogues’ gallery is in full swing. Venom, Cardiac, and even Carnage make for exciting villains, especially with how personal many of these encounters feel.

However, not every issue lands. Some arcs feel like filler, with uneven pacing and less impactful storytelling. The melodrama can get repetitive, and certain plots haven’t aged all that well. It sometimes lacks the thematic depth or risk-taking you might find in other Spider-Man runs.

Still, for fans of this era or of Bagley’s distinctive art style, it’s a solid addition to your collection. It won’t blow your mind start to finish, but there are definitely standout issues that remind you why Spider-Man has remained so beloved over the decades.

Fun and fast-paced Spider-Man run that balances superhero spectacle with personal drama.

The volume follows Peter's adventures as he navigates classic foes like Venom and Carnage while juggling his marriage to Mary Jane, the return of some close relatives, and the other pressures of his daily life.

Bagley's expressive art and Michelinie's solid scripting make this an entertaining and accessible chunk of 90's Spidey that will be a big hit with fans of the cartoon from that era.
