Fast-paced and eye-opening, Undercover Copper is an exciting account of life as a covert investigator by Danni Brooke.
For over a decade, Danni Brooke was one of the most effective female undercover cops in the UK, one of a very small number of women in the Met’s elite unit. She was so successful at taking down criminals she was seconded to forces around the country.
Whether she was infiltrating organized crime gangs or disrupting drug supply lines, Danni played the innocent Essex girl, fooling even the most suspicious villains, using her quick wits to keep her out of trouble. She loved the job, but the pressures of her work, and trying to balance the long hours with being a mother, were to take a toll on her personal life.
In her honest, warm and gripping memoir, Danni also reveals why she left the police, how she found a new career (and love) on Channel 4’s Hunted – and why the thrill of covert work has seen her turn her talents to tracking down cyber criminals.

Really interesting audiobook - I had loved watching Danni on the hunted so hearing about her story in the MET and how she became an undercover officer was interesting
I really enjoyed this book. It was very easy to read language was very clear and simple. Danni comes across as a very warm person. She is clearly very brave and committed to her work and the book outlines the challenges of doing such work. There is also insight into her personal life, but she strikes a good balance between the personal and professional. I enjoyed this so much that I will almost certainly read her other books.
While this memoir does shed some light on policing and its inherent tensions and difficulties, it is a rather uneven book. You can easily the spot the passages primarily written by Brooke and those composed by the ghost writer from, presumably, outline notes. The first half is considerably better than the second during which the lengthy digressions on the author's private life and foray into the world of entertainment lessen the focus on the more interesting facets of her life.
Absolutely loved this book. I remember watching Danni on Hunted and really liked her so when I saw she'd written a book I had to read it. Brilliant, gritty, thought-provoking, dramatic...I could carry on for ages about how good this book is and how fabulous this woman is. Worth every second and I am sad it's finished.
Loved hearing about Danni life in the police force and undercover! Randomly seen a TikTok video which lead me to this book. I would recommend the audiobook to anyone. A fast paced, easy and interesting listen.
Enjoyed this book something different to my usual read. It was interesting to learn about undercover police work, what an interesting life she has led so far
I enjoyed this insightful view to being an undercover cop. It is also insightful to see a woman make a career out of this and the tricky balance of managing a career and family life. I have known people to work in the police and I know it isn't always easy to do both.
This gives insights to a completely different world that I live in. With drug rings and prostitution, and I didn't realise how much work goes into catching these types of criminals, and hard it can be, and how easily it can go wrong.
I enjoyed learning about Danni's training and how she found her career into police work and the assignments she was give. This is a very personal read, it did divulge heavily into her life outside of the police work, which in all honesty, I wasn't completely interested in. I was more focused on the police work, but all good things must come to an end.
I would highly recommend this read. I listened to the audio which I found engaging.
