Did you know that the Teddy Bear has been called the world’s most popular soft toy?
That and more than sixty-three percent of all British households have one—and at a conservative estimate there are more than 140 million of them in the United States alone?
And all this for a cuddly toy that was invented less than a century ago!
The phenomenal popularity of the Teddy Bear over these years, though, has helped to prove that it is in fact more than just a child’s plaything. Bears given to people in childhood often stay with them as their confidants in adulthood and their comforters in old age. A Teddy Bear is the one possession that is never given away or discarded—it only wears out with love.
Ever since the day in 1902 when an American sketching artist drew a whimsical cartoon about President Theodore Roosevelt refusing to shoot a bear cub, and thus provided the inspiration for the invention of ‘Teddy’s Bear’, the little furry creature has become a world-wide favorite not only as a plaything, but in books, films, newspapers, comics, on radio and television, in songs, poems, postcards, and birthday greetings. And as a fundraiser for charity, promotional gift and exhibition showpiece, he has few equals. He is also a popular mascot, symbol, and licensing character unparalleled in advertising history. In the period of one average human lifespan, he has attracted a fan club (called arctophiles) infinitely bigger than any superstar.
Teddy is now the number one attraction with admirers and collectors of all ages from Iceland to Australia, and this book is a celebration of his remarkable achievement. It is an illustrated survey of his history, a scrapbook of his attainments, and an intimate photograph album. It is an A-Z of the most famous bears in the world, a compendium of the record breakers, and a revelation about why Teddy exerts such a fantastic appeal.
Teddy Bears is the book for Teddy lovers. And why not buy one for your Teddy too?

I am afraid that during my life I have not only become addicted to coffee, but also to the long view. I am by no means master of the long view. Who is taking apart teddy bears? Are they made from biodegradable material.
