The Card System at the Office
A handbook for how to carry out the creation of a card index system for use in business offices. It includes examples of how to catalog materials, index, and file them along with details for a variety of additions including cross-indexing and flagging files and materials. While each business may have its own idiosyncratic needs the examples provided should allow readers the ability to fashion a system particular to their individual needs.

Read the entirety of the book from Saturday through today. The appendix has some solid advice aimed at collaborative zettelkasten used by multiple people, but its also very applicable to those used by individuals.
Definitely state of the art card index or database creation for 1908. I can't wait to read his follow-up book.
