Rate this book
Sophomore year… Out of control supernatural creatures, constant chaos, and a strong likelihood of death.

As Rosie Connors starts her second year at King’s Preparatory, she is finding the place she calls home less than pleasant. Especially as she notices her magic isn’t quite within her grasp. Unfortunately, she isn’t alone. Other students, and even teachers, are also losing their gifts, and Rosie has a feeling two mysterious newcomers are behind it.

When no one believes her suspicions, she searches not just for proof, but a solution to restore everyone’s power. Meanwhile, pandemonium ensues as supernatural creatures attack each other around every corner, making her school a deadly battle arena.

Can she stop the fighting, possibly killing, before it is too late and the school is shut down?

I was a little worried the Harry Potter vibes I remembered from book 1 would get old, but the second book changed it up enough to keep me super interested. Just enough Harry Potter vibes to make you nostalgic but this story is its own wild ride. If you like supernatural, magic, or more YA-style romance, then you’ll like this!

The second book in the series and it was a cute, fun read. King's preparatory feels to me like Harry Potter meets Crave, with a side of Wednesday thrown in. The setting is a magical, hidden school with a middle teen main character who was ignorant to the magical world prior to arriving. YA fantasy, contemporary fantasy, academia lovers should check this out.

In the second installment, the students return after summer for another year of school. We see Rosie continue to develop her new powers, side character development, new students introduced and of course, a new mystery to solve while having this overarching mystery that was introduced in book 1.

I was so happy to see the dialogue and pacing improve in this book. The conversations felt much more natural and flowed better in my opinion. The relationships better the characters are solidifying and the new characters provided "fresh blood" into the group. I enjoyed the new mystery and again, the kids decide to "solve" the issue without bringing in the teachers. We see Rosie begin to heal past relationships in her family, which was awesome to see! Throughout the book, the students are required to complete "tasks" that pit the different houses against each other. These often get out of hand and someone inevitably gets hurt. Rosie quickly develops an adversity with one of the new students, which allows us to see a different side of her. In book 1, I felt she was all roses and sunshine - loving everyone and giving everyone the benefit of the doubt. After her betrayals in book 1, it felt right to have her more suspicious up front and trusting her gut more.

I'm really not liking her boyfriend or their relationship. I feel like it is going to crash and burn as some point but he drives me absolutely bonkers! I'm hoping he either has a major character arc or she dumps his butt soon. Teenage girls....don't settle for crap!

Overall, I enjoyed this book even more than the first and I am looking forward to continuing the series to see where Rosie's journey leads!

Where to start!? I loved this book and how it continued building on characters and the school while introducing new characters, creatures, and the world beyond the school. This book was easy to read and quick. It has me wishing the whole series was out already. I loved how the this book shows the underlying issues of inclusivity that people fight for today in the real world. There are so many metaphors not only the fight for inclusivity but also in relation to the politics of everything. That’s why I was able to connect with both the first book and this book. This book really does have some wisdom to the issue and shows that yes inclusivity and peace is wanted and yes politics gets in the way but there is hope! Ready for the next book!

I was lucky to get an arc of this fun ya novel.

Within its pages we return with Rosie and her friends to King’s Preparatory for another school year of adventure, drama and of course danger.

What I loved: Something is messing with the communities ability to control their magic, Justin is back and better than ever ;) the students grow into their powers and we get to know each one a little more. The new characters are well developed and the bad guys are easy to loathe.

What I could have liked more: while I did enjoy the story very much I couldn’t get into the tasks the teams had to complete. They felt rushed and just didn’t fit with the rest of the story.

Overall it was a good read and absolutely leaves room for more books to come.

P.s. it ends on a romantic cliff hanger ;)

This is a young adult, magical/fantasy book with Harry Potter vibes. There is a magical school with lots of magical creatures and powers, this book specifically where the power is stolen. This puts the school in a predicament when no one can control their powers.
I like that the second book was not just a continuation from the first book. What happened in the first book is part of it, but there is a whole new situation and adventure in the second one.
I love that there was a favorite character of mine from the first one that is still in the second one, which I didn't expect in the manor that they play.
I also enjoy the variety of creatures introduced into this one.
There are some very sad moments and a good twist at the end.

This book takes off with Rosie and her journey with being a new witch. I really enjoyed this book. There are new creatures that are joining the school there’s battles in between certain creatures, certain clans. This book was all action packed. This book was a fantasy urban book, this book had me on my toes constantly, I loved all the characters and I loved being able to feel like I was a part of Kings preparatory school. I have nothing but goodness to say about this series more to come so if you like Harry Potter, Wednesday, Addams, the fate of winx Saga, you definitely need to pick up this series.

If the Harry Potter series and Wednesday tv show had a baby... this would be it!

This is such a cool series! This a YA urban fantasy centered around a prestigious school full of magical beings (think witches, vampires, werewolves, mermaids, etc). We enter sophomore year in this book (make sure you read book 1 first) and lots of unexpected things start happening with the magic/students in the school. A new freshmen class enters (and you don't root for some of them), attacks start happening, lots of drama. This was definitely a fun read!

I loved the second book in the King’s Preparatory series! If you loved Harry Potter and you love a well written story about magical beings…you will love this series and this book especially! The FMC is trying to navigate her way through another school year and someone is stealing the power from everyone. Will she be able to solve the issue with the help of her friends, teachers, and family? You will love how it all plays out! I had a couple of times where I audibly gasped! So good! If you haven’t read S.A. Alba’s series, you should!

What an amazing follow up to the first book in this incredible series. Rosie is really coming in to herself and finding out what she’s capable of with her new found powers. In this book we are introduced to new faces with fascinating origins as well as powers ! With new faces , new enemies emerge . With an epic battle to save her friends Rosie is really thrown in to some precarious situations where she will have to try and prove her innocence. There is love and loss in this book that will wrench your heart . Can’t wait to see what happens at Kings Preparatory next!

Continue on Rosie’s journey during her second year at King’s Preparatory. After working all summer on controlling her recently found gifts, she thinks her second year will be easier than her first. Not so. Once two new students join, students’ magic is going haywire. Can Rosie help as a former intellect with new powers? This journey brings in more magical beings and creatures that you know and love. There are several twists and turns; some a little predictably, and some that took me by surprise. Great second book in the series!

I love that this book introduced me to new fantasy characters that I haven’t seen in any fantasy books! You have the usual mermaids, vampires, witches and so on but I was amazed at the new ones introduced. Can’t post a spoiler though so you’re going to have to be just as surprised.

I will say book one was a good book so I was interested in book two and now I am dying for book 3! I did end up crying at the end of this book because of what happened.

I enjoyed this YA book even more than the first. Watching the characters learn more about themselves and their abilities both internally and magically. There were twists and turns so that you were wondering what will happen next. I really loved that they introduced a lot of different types of magical beings in the second book of the series. Definitely can’t wait to see where the third installment leads these characters

Book two and this has more twists and turns then a maze as we join Rosie as she starts her 2nd year at King’s Preparatory. It’s intriguing to see Rosie with her new powers, meet new faces and of course learn that trouble is just round the corner! With someone stealing powers as new baddies come out of the shadows and an epic adventure to be faced, there’s drama, danger and a whole lot of excitement! It’s a great read and Rosie definitely has her work cut out for her this time!

I absolutely loved this book! I couldn't put it down. It had me hooked the entire time. I really connected with the characters. Just like in book one. The author does an amazing job at making you feel like you are right there with all the characters. Following along in their journey. I highly recommend this book if you are a YA urban fantasy lover. I can't wait for book 3!

This is the second book of the series. I know have to read to first one. This book is Rosie’s journey during her second year at King’s Preparatory. It started out with a mystery, and it continued through the story! Wizards, witches, vampires, werewolves, mermaids, fairies, shapes shifters, and more in one school has me think of Harry Potter.

King’s Preparatory and the Stolen Power picks up exactly where the first left off. Rosie survived her first year and is now in her second year at King’s Preparatory. This year finds the gifts Rosie found and started trying to control in book one are slowly slipping away from her, but it’s just not her. Other students and even some of the staff are losing their supernatural gifts. Rosie decides it’s up to her to get to the bottom of this as all YA protagonist do and searches for a solution to restore everyone’s powers while also trying to survive school itself.

(I reviewed both this first book and its sequel at the same time) I thoroughly enjoyed both of these books. They felt very nostalgic to me and brought me back to brighter days when the creator of Harry Potter wasn’t a POS. The school is set up into houses and there’s even tournaments that make you think of Quidditch, but Alba is still able to spin her own unique tale. I read these books at the end of March/beginning of April and I’m still thinking about them and thinking about what Rosie is getting up to these days. These are typical YA fantasy novels, so if that isn’t your jam you won’t enjoy them, but for those of us who hold a little soft spot in our hearts for these types of novels that aren’t quite young adults anymore, I feel like you’ll have a fun time. I gave them both solid 4/4.

Thank you so much to the author, S.A. Alba for giving me an ARC copy of this book.

I enjoyed this more than the first book!!! This book had so many twists and turns I wasn’t expecting that it kept me on my toes the entire time. It had me thinking about different characters and how they might be at play in all of this mess.

I’m still skeptical of some of the characters and I can’t wait for book 3 to learn more. There was less romance in this book than the first but there was still some teenage angst going on which melted right into the book seamlessly.

Rosie is still one of my favorite characters but Justin really grew on me and Riley started to annoy me. Garrett and Eleanor’s relationship is adorable. For anyone who loves YA fantasy I would recommend!
