Julius Palmer is working a dead-end job, dreaming of nature and frisbee golf, when he gets a call to play in a tournament. A quality finish earns him a shot at an even more exclusive tournament. One with life-changing prize money and bigger dangers than bogeys hiding in the trees...
Disc golf has been a passion of mine ever since the summer after I graduated high school. I’ve been playing this game for 15 years and it has never gotten stale. I ordered this book purely because 1. I love horror books 2. I love supporting self published authors 3. I LOVE disc golf.
Dead Center Chains takes place in Arkansas (where I was born and raised and first played DG at Burns Park in North Little Rock). Palmer is invited to a secret course to play in a tournament of 36 holes with a million dollar cash prize. Only issue, there’s a raging murderous lunatic on the course killing off the competition. I’ll say this book does not take itself seriously, at all. It’s purely fun and its audience is well, people like me! It reminded me of Broken Lizard’s Club Dread meets Cabin in the Woods meets Caddyshack. Its genre is very much all over the place and I think that made this romp of a disc golf slasher the most enjoyable. You can tell the author loves the game because of its inclusion of the slang, the woeful mini tourneys, glow golf, the gate keepers, the unwillingness to part ways from your first bag, the silly disc names, and the list goes on. If you like fun and disc golf and cheesy murder, show some support!
