After breaking the siege of Pisa, Centurions Varro, Falco, and Curio yearned for nothing more than a moment of respite in the comfort of their homes. Yet their enemies had other plans. Summoned urgently to Rome, they find themselves thrust into a maelstrom of danger that threatens not only their lives but the survival of the Republic.

As they hunt an implacable enemy through the streets of Rome, the countryside swarms with brigands. Their homes are razed, fortunes threatened, and loved ones imperiled.

In a heart-stopping tale of courage, loyalty, and sacrifice, Varro, Falco, and Curio uncover the dark factions of Roman politics. Will they rise to the challenge or will they succumb to the forces arrayed against them?

excellent addition to the series

Jerry Autieri can certainly paint a picture of a brief period in Ancient Rome. If you enjoy books about the Roman legions or just a mystery that takes place during that period, then get this book. You won’t be disappointed.

Loved it.

Finished this in a few days. Really enjoyed it. Not the usual problems for Varro, Falco and Curio but, danger everywhere for them. Fast paced, tense and a great read. Can't wait for the next in the series.

still not her good quick read

The author made Falco a bit dumber than necessary, possibly to make the adventure tale longer. But if you seek a quick adventure to read that does not challenge with twisting mystery, this is for you.
