This very moving book is the narrative form of the graphic novel, “The Girl Who Sang”. It was written by the nephew of Estelle Nadel, author of the graphic novel memoir. For years Norman Feld did extensive research and interviews with his father Steven, aunt, and his Uncle Mel, all Holocaust survivors. As well, Norm and the family made two trips back to Poland, to reunite with some of the people that helped the three youngsters to survive the Nazi atrocities. A powerful book, that should be in every middle-grade and high-school classroom, everywhere.
Memorable Quote: (Pg.99)-“Recently, after speaking to a group of local high school teachers, one educator asked Estelle the following question, “Do you think it’s possible, being it’s so difficult to remember at a young age, that you might be fabricating your story a bit?”. Other teachers gasped. Estelle calmly responded, “Are you kidding me? When something this traumatic happens to a young child, the events become fried into their brain.”
