Not a one-sitting read. Never.

The case studies had me reflecting on my attitudes towards money. Had me reflecting on how I was socialized around money at home as a young girl growing up in Meadowlands, Soweto, and how THAT affected my views around money.

A fantastic resource with a huge outlook on the psychology of money. Money is not just a thing. It is a big instrument affecting how and where I live, giving me the freedom to dream and reimagine a different, better, richer and a more enriching life for me and my family.

Reading this book led me to other titles and a few Netflix doc-series like THE 5AM CLUB, ATOMIC HABITS, GET GOOD WITH MONEY Ive been watching, on a loop, Ramit Sethi and Tiffany.

Go on, dream big. Want more because you deserve to live abundantly on this earth. I don't know where we end up when we cross over; I have yet to read a true-life anecdotal account on and about the other realm.

You owe yourself a good life, and it starts with you.

A comprehensive little book that really got me thinking about my finances and I appreciate that. The authors didn't ignore the emotional and mental factors that contribute to how we think about money and even our traumas and socio-economic backgrounds. This was a helpful and encouraging outlook on money and how to make small changes for big results. After reading Robin Sharma's book, "The Wealth Money Can't Buy", I am a big proponent of small consistent changes over time (which lead to results you can be proud of).

This book encompasses many messages from the 7 habits of highly effective people, atomic habits, make your bed, the psychology of money and the power of habit. It was interesting to read, and there is a central message that your financial situations and the financial decisions you make are deeply rooted in your mental state. I liked that the book emphasizes a few things:

1. Being kind to yourself. “Be kind to yourself, share some kind words with others, and smile! You never know how a well-timed smile can change someone’s life.”

2. You can only act your way through change.

3. We do change best with others.

4. What we value is what we do. (I instead took this as a que to take action, and changed it to “Do/spend time on what you value.”

5. Change is possible. “Unpacking the link between past experiences and current behavior can help someone recognize that their current behavior is not predetermined and unchangeable - it has been shaped by circumstances and can usually be changed with a dollop of free will.”

6. Clear steps on how to achieve financial freedom (if that’s what you choose).

7. Behavior change starts with changing your thoughts about yourself and the world around you.
8. Balance is key.

9. You already have enough. (Enough is closer than you think.)

10. Be kind to yourself (again, because this is an important one). “Celebrate every step, no matter how small, because tiny steps lead to significant changes. Embrace the inevitable setbacks and don’t view them as failures- they are opportunities to learn and grow stronger.

11. “Your past does not define you - your current choices shape you. Your journey is in your hands.”
