A Compendium of Crimes, an upcoming mystery fiction anthology featuring ten novellas from a host of talented authors across the world, will release on August 30th.
This thriller collection was a roller coaster ride for me - ranging from modern thrillers to victorian era. My views on each of the 6 stories are as follows :- 1) Diamonds, Doilies and Death by Yvanka Maria Guia Rebelo - I loved reading this Victorian era thriller. The love that the eyes conveyed and that transpired between Lucy and Gabriel was so raw and pure. However, I wished that this one would have been a little longer so that I could enjoy this for a long time. 2) Out of Love by Marie May Carter - This one had me hooked from the very beginning. I loved all the tropes. My adrenaline was high throughout. Myles, although a morally grey character, has taken my heart. Davina's instinct and actions are rightfully made and I loved her character as well. She was not like the usual submissive female characters. The character development of both of them was outstanding. 3) On Track to Murder - This is my favourite thriller from the collection. It was short, yet so captivating. I haven't read a book by Agatha Christie, but this story has made me want to read her books. A solid 5 on 5!4) Her Pilfering Phantom by Belinda Kroll - The writing style was quite 'Victorian Era' types. While it was complex for me in the beginning, I quickly grasped and enjoyed the plot. Indeed the story line was very deep. 5) A Puzzle of Shards by Elise - This started off slowly, but soon gained momentum. The ending had me dropping my jaw. The language was easy and simple, since this was based in 2019. The plot build up was also amazing. Please read the trigger warnings before reading this short story. Rest assured, it's a great one. 6) Evening Angels by Christine Kulgart - This one was another modern thriller that I enjoyed. For me, the plot was easy to guess and a bit slow. But the building up of the story was amazing. Overall, all these stories were captivating, with different writing styles. I would love to explore more by each of the authors. If you're a thriller lover, and want to explore different timelines, this anthology is the perfect pick for you.
Overall rating: This is a good collection of mysteries and a very quick read. I enjoyed the writing of every author and the characters and stories they shared.
Diamonds, Doilies and Death I loved each of the characters, especially Arthur.
The story grabbed my attention and kept me wondering until the end.
I do wish that there was more—I’d love to see if Sarita got home okay and how Lucy is doing up north.
Out of Love The action started right from the beginning and I LOVED it.
Such a good, suspenseful read and was not expecting the ending at all. I was on the edge of my seat the entire times trying to figure out who done it.
On Track to a Murder This story was such a good one. I loved the setting and the premise. I was NOT expecting what happened to happen and literally gasped.
Holly has an amazing eye for mysteries and I loved her character the most.
Her Pilfering Phantom Edith’s personality was funny, especially when dealing with Sir Hubert. Her interaction with the ghost had me laughing out loud.
The tension between Sir Hubert, Edith, and Dame was thick. Loved it.
Overall, a cute, fun story. Loved the who done it storyline and how they figured it out.
A Puzzle of Shards Triggers — mentions of rape, mentions of cancer, addiction, drug an alcohol use.
I was very intrigued from the start. I needed to know more about Ellie and what happened to her and when we meet her I loved how mysterious she was.
I wish we found out more in the end, I had questions that didn’t get answered but overall a good story.
Evening Angels While reading this my guess for “who done it” changed and I still still shocked at the end.
This was a wild ride from beginning to end. I wanted to grab Jaden and give him a good hug.

What a fun collection of stories!! It was great to see the different styles from each author, which is something I particularly enjoy when reading anthologies. No story is the same, and the authors certainly confirm that with this anthology.
