The Brentwood Boys #1

Battitore Batticuore

Rate this book

When I was in high school I occasionally read books but was consumed by other teenage things so I didn't take the time to appreciate a good book on a cloudy day, wrapped up in a blanket on the couch. It wasn't until I received a Kindle for Christmas one year that my world completely flipped upside down. When looking for books I came across the Contemporary Romance genre and was sold and I haven't turned back since.

You can either find my head buried in my Kindle, listening to inspiring heart ripping music or typing away on the computer twisting and turning the lives of my characters while driving my readers crazy with anticipation.

I currently reside in beautiful Colorado Springs where the sun is always shining and there is a trail waiting to be hiked on every corner. I share a lovely and warm home with the love of my life and my five, four-legged children.

3 Stars - because that time jump at the end made no freaking sense and I felt like punching something at how everything was rationalised. 8 years?!!! Really?!?!

First of all halle-freaking-lujah, I finished a book!

I thought a sweet, funny college romance might do the trick and it was good. Perfect even! Knox was every girl’s dream personified. I loved him so much. The constant banter, the little gestures, the funny sexy talk, it was all there.

There isn’t much to say about the book except that it was the perfect feel good, funny college love story.

BUT

at the 80% mark everything was flushed down the drain. Completely flushed! Obliterated! For me there was no coming back from that and the story turned from a sweet tale which gives you all the feel good vibes into a bitter tale of lost time, lost connections, bad decisions .. scratch that incomprehensible decisions. And don’t you tell me that it made sense blah freaking blah.. It made no sense, not when there was real love involved. 8 years?!?? Really? Dating others while you’re within reasonable distance from the supposed love of your life!? What?! Why?!

I thought that whole break-up thing was gonna be temporary, as in a few months, some deep pining.. you know the drill. But 8 years?!

And no! I’m not using spoiler tags for it because it should be out there and people should know before reading. Had I known, I wouldn’t have read it! (I know I didn’t read the reviews beforehand so it’s partly my fault, but what kind of sane person would expect that to happen in this kind of story?!?)

It was stupid!

Listen, if that had happened at the 50% mark and then you get to see them reconnecting or I don’t know .. if it made any sense at all for the story it wouldn’t have bothered me, but this?!

Imagine you’re starting a book which promises to be a lighthearted, rom-com but at the 80% mark it turns into a drama-llama with all the angst and sadness that watching Titanic for the first time, gave you. That’s this book!

Gahhhh, have I said how freaking frustrated I am?

Why do that? Like just why? It was the perfect little cute romance. Why ruin it?!

So yeah, there ya go.. read the first 80% imagine a happy ending there and then scroll to the epilogue. That’s the only way to enjoy this book.

I liked the book if we discount the last 20% so please someone tell me if the rest of the series will have the same ridiculous conflicts/separation and time jumps, cause I don’t wanna waste my time if that’s the case.

Meghan Quinn writes some of the best rom-coms out there. The Locker Room was a fun and flirty romance that gave me lots of laughs with just enough angst and emotion. I love sports romances and there aren't enough baseball ones out there.

After ending a six year relationship, Emory moves across the country to start her junior year of college. Her first day of classes she meets Knox Gentry, star of the baseball team. Knox isn't known for being in relationships but there is something about Emory he finds irresistible. He peruses her relentlessly. He knows when he's found something good and Emory is just that.

Knox Gentry is a one of a kind hero and I adored him! I loved how full of himself he was (in a good way) but how he was also so kind and patient with Emory. Emory was gun shy about being in a relationship and I understood why. She had to work on herself before she could get that involved and I respected that. Still, there was no way that she could resist Knox. He was too much in the best way possible. I loved their texts, banter, and the bets. It was all great. I could just see them both falling so hard for one another and I adored it.
“I’ve never in my life wanted anyone more than I want you.”

Honestly, I loved the heck out of this book and I was fairly sure it was going to be a five star read for me. It had me laughing, swooning, and was super duper steamy. But then something happened that I didn't love and put a bit of a damper on things for me personally Fortunately, it wasn't anything that made me not love the book. I still loved it to pieces, and the ending made me smile so big. I did, however, knock off a star because it rubbed me wrong. But even with that little thing, I can't recommend this one enough! It was so good.

If you're looking for a fun, fast paced, sports romance that will make you laugh out loud and has a high steam factor, pick this book up! I will for sure be looking forward to more rom-com/sports romances from Quinn in the future.

Meghan Quinn I forgot how quickly you steal my heart with your books. I fell head first into this read, my god I loved it. I loved the connection between Knox & Emory, their banter making me smile, swoon, and laugh out loud. My emotions were running high and wild reading this one. This author has flawless writing down. Every book, so good.

I was sucked into this read from the first page. How Emory came to meet Knox, to their chance encounters, to their easy flowing relationship. And of course their bet. The build of friendship first, how much these two characters grew to love wholehearted, each other. The foreplay literally lighting the pages on fire. The way this book flowed was perfect, until it hit the 75% mark and my heart crashed. Like literally. And it kept crashing for ten percent more. I’ll be honest, I LOVED THIS BOOK, but I hate the separation. HOWEVER, the ending, I know was perfect because of that separation.

So, again thank you Meghan for making me add another hot ass boyfriend to my list😘😘😘😘

You sport romance lovers, second chance at love, and you swooners, don’t let this one pass by.

And I am hoping, and begging for more to this little group🙏🏻♥️🙏🏻

Don’t read unless you like the couple to randomly separate for EIGHT YEARS 90% into the book

I cannot believe what I just read. What a complete wast of time. I doubt that I will never read this author again. I understand that a writer can do what they like with their characters, but to mislead potential readers is fraudulent. This book is labeled as “new adult” and the summery is basically a lie. This isn’t a cute “college” story about a campus legend, and it’s certainly not the guy so in love that he takes the heroine to “the locker room” because of the superstition. They never even “sleep” together during their actual relationship in college. Because of the sudden shift in genre the entire book/story is basically a joke. You think you know what you are getting into because for most of the story you read this story about a college couple. Suddenly at 90%, they break up. He doesn’t try to win her back and she doesn’t try to make it work. There are about 8 pages of a text a year in which they update each other on their lives, (and during this time they both have serious relationships, him with supermodel of course). Then suddenly they run into each other after EIGHT FREAKING YEARS and he confronts her about breaking up with him. Of course they jump into bed together and exchange”I love you’s” even though neither happened in college. And boom, they are back together just like that. I honestly only finished the book because I just knew it had to be a plot twist or nightmare etc where they show what almost happened before one of them snapped out of it. But no, this is what actually happened. I truly don’t think I have ever been this angry at an author. I feel completely duped. She is a selfish greedy person and I have lost all respect for her. Where the heck are her Beta readers?!?!?? She should fire them. They obviously care more about kissing her butt than pointing out the major flaw of lying in your description, not to mention genre/trope tags. Identify them correctly, or just not give them! Write your book how you want, but you should darn well be honest about the story you are peddling. Lest you are no better than the two big hacks posting complete nonsense and trying to pass themselves off as independent authors. Have some pride and loyalty to people who spend their hard earned money to buy your books. I’m completely disgusted.

I don't know how to put into words how this book make me feel. I am a blubbering mess of emotions. The beginning of the book had me laughing out loud so many times that I'm sure my neighbors heard me. About halfway through I was feeling the build up of anxiety because I didn't know what was going to happen. Then I hit 75% and I started CRYING. WHY THE HELL AM I CRYING!?!? Because Meghan has brought to life a REALISTIC portrayal of a relationship where both parties want their love to survive yet don't want to mess up the potential for GREATNESS in the future. Gosh, the selflessness and heartbreak turned me into a puddle of tears. I wanted to slap some characters, hug them, cheer them on, and so much more. Then we get to the ending . I had NO CLUE where Meghan was taking it. Could have been in a place I would never have wanted to venture. But she didn't take me to a dark place like I feared. She took me to a swoony place that gave me the EPIC FEELS and turned my heart into mush! MUSH I TELL YOU!!!! What an incredible, original, heartfelt, sweet, dynamic, and SWOONY read this one is. I laughed, shed tears, and then laughed some more. I may even have given my iPad a big hug when I finished (shh, don't tell anyone). It was SO GOOD .

The Locker Room is nothing I expected but EVERYTHING I was craving in a new adult, college romance with HUMOR. Meghan's trademark style shines through the novel. The hero, Knox, is one of the sweetest, kindest, and amazing heroes I have met and he stole my heart. Thank goodness he's a fictional character because the cat fights that would ensue among us ladies would be BAD. Like, very very bad. I am talking scratch the eyes out, hair pulling bad! And Emory? She's such a gentle soul. Thinks low of herself but so highly of others. I actually saw a little of me in her which is why I connected with her so fast. Meghan truly wrote the hell out of these characters and if I could scoop them up and keep them for myself I would! They are EPIC.

If you are in the mood for an original romance, one that takes place in college and revolves around baseball then you will WANT Knox Gentry and Emory in your lives. The Locker Room is a 5+ star read for me and will forever be a favorite by Meghan! I adored this book. I hope some of the secondary characters get their story... I would LOVE to see them again!

3 sleepy tit handful stars

it GREATLY pains me to give this book three stars because i REALLY fucking enjoyed it. the end was just kind of a train wreck.

if you enjoyed the off campus series and are seeking good banter and sexual tension, i think you'll thoroughly enjoy this! with a couple caveats:

1. the main bitch, emory? she cries a WHOLE hell of a lot. any misunderstanding where she could have asked a question instead? let's just cry.

2. there is a CONSIDERABLE time jump in this book that i personally think was unnecessary and really hindered the believability of the long term success of this relationship. which okay who cares it's a book, but as someone in a LONG term relationship it's something i always think about when reading a romance

3. there is a considerable amount of cheese and declarations of love. didn't bother me too much but it might make those more sensitive types cringe a bit.

BUT! BUT!

i really fucking liked this. it's been a WHILE since i've read a sports romance i fell hard for, and i still count this one as renewing my love for the sub genre <3

*****FIVE STARS*****
{ARC Generously Provided by Author}

I was never supposed to get involved with someone right after Neil, but somehow, Knox Gentry wiggled his way into my world, and I can’t seem to shake him…not that I want to. The darkness that clouded my heart after Neil and I broke up has gone, and my soul is beginning to feel again.

I battled with different emotions over this latest by one of my most beloved authors. ”THE LOCKER ROOM” started off a little slow for me. I thought it was an enjoyable enough read but there was just nothing special about it except for the sexy and charismatic Hero, Knox Gentry. The relationship between Knox and Emory seemed to be developing at a snail's pace. Emory was too stubborn and unwilling to give Knox a chance for far too long. Then finally, things start to get serious between them and I’m floating on a cloud of happiness. My happiness was short lived because Meghan Quinn goes and slaps me so hard across the face with some astronomically painful angst. I swear I yelled out loud at Meghan for the torture she inflicted upon my weak heart for the last 30% of the story!! Call me a glutton for punishment, but that painful angst skyrocketed this book to ”FIVE STAR” worthy status!!

I am so in love with Knox Gentry!! He is now one of my most beloved Meghan Quinn Heroes! Emory is going down as my least favorite Heroine. I can’t forgive her for what she put poor Knox through. But her stupidity did make for some excellent reading enjoyment!!

Here are my overall ratings:

Hero: 5+++++++++
Heroine: 2
Plot: 4.5
Angst: 5
Steam: 5
Chemistry Between Hero & Heroine: 5

After ending a 6-year relationship with her unfaithful boyfriend, heartbroken Emory decides to join her friends and attend college far from home. 💔

On her first day, Her campus map flies right on Knox Gentry's face, the college baseball team star. ⚾
Knox is not a man of relationships and never had a girlfriend, but something about Emory attracts him and he starts to court her ... But Emory doesn't want to rush into a new relationship so she offers him only her friendship - but I had no doubt she couldn't resist him for long… 😂💝

AWWW Knox ... I haven't read about such a sensitive, caring, honest, thoughtful and sweet man like him, in a long time... And although he was completely full of himself, he was so tolerant towards Emory and her fears of being hurt. 😍

📚 “𝑴𝒚 𝒎𝒐𝒎 𝒎𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝒃𝒆 𝒂 𝒈𝒐𝒐𝒅 𝒇𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒅 𝒐𝒇 𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒆.”
“𝑯𝒆 𝒐𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒔𝒂𝒊𝒅 𝒃𝒆𝒔𝒕 𝒇𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒅,” 𝑪𝒂𝒓𝒔𝒐𝒏 𝒂𝒅𝒅𝒔.
“𝑺𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒐𝒖𝒔𝒍𝒚?” 𝑰 𝒂𝒔𝒌, 𝒇𝒆𝒆𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒇𝒓𝒖𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒅. 𝑨𝒔 𝒊𝒇 𝑰 𝒏𝒆𝒆𝒅𝒆𝒅 𝒂𝒏𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒐𝒏 𝒕𝒐 𝒔𝒘𝒐𝒐𝒏 𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒎𝒂𝒏, 𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒂𝒚𝒔 𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒎𝒐𝒎 𝒊𝒔 𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒃𝒆𝒔𝒕 𝒇𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒅? 📚

The rumors says that anyone who has sex in the baseball locker room will win two things:
1. The best orgasm EVER.
2. An engagement ring
Would Emory become Knox's locker room girl...?! 😂⚾🎉

📚 “𝑩𝒓𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒘𝒐𝒐𝒅 𝒊𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒃𝒓𝒆𝒆𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒈𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒅 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒃𝒂𝒔𝒆𝒃𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒚𝒆𝒓𝒔, 𝒊𝒕’𝒔 𝒘𝒉𝒚 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒚 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒏𝒊𝒄𝒆𝒔𝒕 𝒍𝒐𝒄𝒌𝒆𝒓 𝒓𝒐𝒐𝒎. 𝑰𝒕’𝒔 𝒘𝒉𝒚 𝒊𝒕’𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒎𝒐𝒔𝒕 𝒔𝒖𝒈𝒈𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒃𝒆, 𝒃𝒆𝒄𝒂𝒖𝒔𝒆 𝒊𝒇 𝒚𝒐𝒖’𝒓𝒆 𝒍𝒖𝒄𝒌𝒚 𝒆𝒏𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉 𝒕𝒐 𝒈𝒆𝒕 𝒂𝒏 𝒊𝒏𝒗𝒊𝒕𝒆, 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒊𝒔 𝒎𝒂𝒓𝒓𝒊𝒂𝒈𝒆 𝒊𝒏 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒇𝒖𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆.” 📚

This book was AWESOME! I laughed, I fell in love, I shed a tear, and then I laughed again. 😍
I loved the progress of their relationship, the banter and jokes... The passion and chemistry... And their hilarious bets. 😂

📚 “𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒂𝒃𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒎𝒆? 𝑫𝒐 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒑𝒊𝒄𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝒎𝒆 𝒏𝒂𝒌𝒆𝒅? 𝑫𝒐 𝑰 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒂 𝒄𝒂𝒏𝒏𝒐𝒏 𝒐𝒇 𝒂 𝒄𝒐𝒄𝒌?”
𝑺𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒊𝒅𝒆-𝒆𝒚𝒆𝒔 𝒎𝒆 𝒂𝒔 𝒔𝒉𝒆 𝒃𝒊𝒕𝒆𝒔 𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒐 𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒑𝒊𝒛𝒛𝒂. “𝑵𝒐, 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒂 𝒎𝒊𝒄𝒓𝒐 𝒑𝒆𝒏𝒊𝒔 𝒊𝒏 𝒎𝒚 𝒅𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒎𝒔, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑰 𝒔𝒑𝒆𝒏𝒅 𝒂𝒃𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒕𝒆𝒏 𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒖𝒕𝒆𝒔 𝒕𝒓𝒚𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒐 𝒇𝒊𝒏𝒅 𝒊𝒕 𝒘𝒉𝒊𝒍𝒆 𝒊𝒕’𝒔 𝒆𝒓𝒆𝒄𝒕.” 📚

At the beginning I laughed so loudly that my husband came to tell me I was interrupting him to watch TV... And then towards the end, I suddenly started crying!
Meghan managed to write about a selfless relationship (with some stupid choices from heroes, but still - selfless) and made me want to slap them, hug them, kiss them... And sit on Knox's hot face!!! 😂🔥🙈

📚 “𝑰 𝒅𝒐𝒏’𝒕 𝒘𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝒕𝒐 𝒃𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒇𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒅. 𝑰 𝒘𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝒕𝒐 𝒃𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒃𝒐𝒚𝒇𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒅, 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒈𝒐𝒅𝒅𝒂𝒎𝒏 𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓.” 📚

BUT... towards the end, there was an 8 year time jump (which is a LOT!!!) - and although it was written in a reliable way, personally, I don't like when it happens in books.

And still, I enjoyed this book so much... if you ask me, what made it so good is that it was believable. Their story is definitely something that can happen in real life. ❤
I love reading books that makes me laugh, but also FEEL! 💪💝👏

I am still so frustrated at this book I don't think I can even fully explain. But I'm going to try. I don't think a book has made me this mad in a long time. So score one I guess for making me care about it?

One of the biggest reasons I'm so angry is because I was loving this book so hard in the beginning. Around the 20% mark I was even wondering if it would end up being another 5 Star read for me, which does not happen much. But that's how much I was enjoying the banter between Knox and Emory! At the very least it was going to be a strong 4 Star read and I was kicking myself for letting this book wait so long on my tbr before starting it. But then the last 25% or so happened and now I'm just kicking myself for ever reading it.

That last part of the book felt like it came out of nowhere and it was not a good surprise. I felt blindsided reading the text exchanges that kept adding more and more time that separated these characters all the way up to EIGHT YEARS later. Eight years, guys. Eight fucking years!!!! I had to pause and stop reading for a bit when that happened because I was so furious at the story taking that turn. It made no sense in my opinion, added nothing to the story, and only succeeded in angering me to the point I absolutely hated the book at that moment.

Is that dramatic? Probably. But I don't care, it ruined my reading experience and, for me, completely shattered all the love and the connection that Knox and Emory had up to this point. Which let me just say, their slow burn romance was actually working really well. And I'm not a big fan of characters moving as slow as they did usually. But it worked and made sense for them. Which made it even more nonsensical when they split for the dumbest reason and stayed apart for eight years. In which time we had the bare minimum of hints on how their lives were going. Just stupid texts they were sharing back and forth, some of which - in the beginning - we got to learn that apparently they kissed again, or slept in bed together (no sex) and yet we didn't actually get to see those scenes. Just another thing to annoy me.

Then we get the most fast paced, rushed ending to finish the shit show. And again, it really made no sense how the first 75% was them having a very slow paced romance and then all of the sudden their ending is skipped to and rushed in such a different pace that it felt like I was reading another book.

To sum up, I'm angry at this book and honestly mad that I even read it. And in all honesty when I took my break after learning there was a time jump I was still thinking that the book would be no lower than a 3 star read. But then I read the end and I hated how Emory acted, and hated that we got a rushed ending with what felt like no closure to her and Knox's separation. So yeah, the end ruined it and this book went from a definite 4 Star to a 1 Star. That may be harsh but that's how frustrated it made me and now I'm not even sure I want to try any of the other books in this series.

5 “Knox Gentry is my MVP” Stars!!!

Right off the bat (yes, pun totally intended) I was laughing my a** off and falling so freaking hard for Knox Gentry. I LOVED this book so damn much! It’s everything I look for in a college/sports romance. Tears in your eyes laughing so hard funny, cute relationship, likable characters and scorching chemistry. ALL THE FEELS, that’s exactly what this book gave me and I couldn’t get enough.

I inhaled this book. Meghan and her quick wit hooked me. Left and right I was hit with so many funny moments, but it wasn’t all sunshine. Oh no, just when I thought I knew what was happening, BAM, Meghan hit me with the unexpected. I honestly had no idea at that turn the story would go, but I understood why it had to happen even though it made me want to punch a wall. It’s all good though, I promise.

Knox Gentry owned me! My freaking gosh he is EVERYTHING! He’s so lovable and take it from me, you will fall just as hard for him. When an accidental encounter occurs and his eyes land on her, he’s a goner. He’s persistent in his pursue of Emory, but in the best way. He’s so impossible to resist and as much as Emory tries to fight him and his charm, she doesn’t stand a chance.

After breaking up with her long-term boyfriend, Emory decides to transfer to a different school and move on. She wants to try and regain the person she used to be before she was in relationship. So that means focusing on school and her future. Guys and dating is taking a backseat, but what Emory didn’t expect was the impact that Knox would have in her life.

Knox and Emory gave me all the damn feels. These two were the epitome of cuteness overload. They were so adorable, I can’t. I loved their friendship so much and I loved how their relationship progressed throughout the book. Knox and Emory’s chemistry was pure fire. I couldn’t get enough of their playfulness and witty and hilarious banter. I adored them so much and I couldn’t get enough.

The Locker Room was an addicting, laugh-out-loud, swoony, and sexy sports romance/romantic comedy. Meghan Quinn outdid herself and she once again gave me a couple in Knox and Emory that I couldn’t help but love. And it’s no surprise Knox and Emory quickly became a favorite of mine. Yet another book by Meghan that has been added to my favorites list.

MUST READ!

This slow burn New Adult romance is not to be missed! Knox and Emory stole my heart! I flat out loved the angst and anticipation of romance. This is the perfect New Adult/College romance. It brought back so many fun memories of college!!

Meghan Quinn has an uncanny ability to make me fall head over heels in love with her leading men and Knox is no exception. He owns my whole heart! He’s sweet, funny, and just a really great guy. Gah! Where was he when I was in college!!

Excellent characters, amazing chemistry, and witty banter, are the hallmark characteristics of this 5 star read. Meghan Quinn has outdone herself this time. I Highly recommend this book!

First time I ever heard of wet humping.

I liked this take on the cocky college athlete meets studious girl whose heart has been broken in the past. In this case the college athlete is Knox, who is the number one baseball draft pick at the top college for baseball stars. The baseball stars that may have been drafted straight out of high school, instead go to Brentwood to learn from Coach Disik and are better off for it and end up being drafted higher after their Junior year.

Knox meets transfer student Emory at the beginning of Junior year and wants to date her immediately but she is gun shy after being cheated on and mistreated by her ex in California. It takes him a while to win her over and when he finally gets her to agree to go out with him, he bets her and his friends that he can outlast her in how long they can go without having sex.

They both have pretty great control but end up blurring the lines with a lot of very hot touching, kissing, dry humping and eventually wet humping. It gets pretty steamy. The book is very good. Though it gets emotional in parts and there are parts I am not sure I like so much. But we don’t always like every scene in a book we like, and that is ok. I liked the side characters, especially his friends who were pretty funny and his Mother who was awesome.

I seem to be in the minority with this one, but I was NOT a fan. I think giving it a 3 star rating is generous and that this is more on the 2.5 star side of things. From the beginning, I wasn't a fan of Emory. We knew she was cheated on by her boyfriend of 6 years, but that's all we really get from her hurt heart. We don't get any flashbacks of their relationship or any real explanation for why she was with him or why she was so brokenhearted. We know what she said when she caught him cheating and what he texted her, but I honestly didn't understand why they dated that long after what little she revealed about that relationship. This breakup is literally the ONE reason Emory made Knox wait 50% of this book before she decided to date him. I was so annoyed with her and just wanted her to give in already. Knox was super sweet and devoted to her and she kept on saying no.

Then, we got the time jump. I knew this was coming because of reviews I've read/heard and I was not a fan of that plot point. Seriously? And, again, it was all because of Emory. She was sabotaging their entire relationship from the start and it just made me mad. So the last 20% of this book was just annoying because I knew it would end in an HEA, so I didn't really care what happened from that point on.

Overall, I didn't care for this book. The romance was average and I spent most of my time annoyed with Emory's character more than anything.

Gah! I absolutely loved EVERYTHING about this book! It's sweet, fun, sassy, humorous and downright amazing! It's everything that we've come to know and love from author Meghan Quinn.

The Locker Room is so much more than just a sports romance. It's a story filled with so much heart and emotion. It's a story about letting go of the past and fighting for the future. It's a story of finding love when you're not even looking for it. It’s a story of friendship and second chances.

My heart absolutely ached for Emory and what she had been through. She is broken and trying to move past all of the heartache and pain. And vowing that she will never give out her heart to another man. Then Knox comes along. He is immediately drawn to her beauty, wit and charm. But getting past her safeguards is not an easy task. Her heart is guarded, and the walls are firmly in place. It takes a lot of time and patience to show Emory her worth and to capture her heart.

The Locker Room is wonderfully written and absolutely captivating. It's a beautiful story with endearing characters and a heartfelt plot. It has the perfect mix of family, friendship, light drama, tender moments, sizzling chemistry, sexual innuendos and witty dialogue. Knox and Emory's story will leave you with all of the feels. I smiled. I laughed, and I cried. This book deserves ALL OF THE STARS and is definitely not one you will want to miss.

This is an angry review. This is a frustrated review. This is a wasted my time on this book review. This is a this is not my idea of a romance review. Spoilers ahead because as you already know, when I rant, I use spoilers.

I saw Meghan Quinn's name and I immediately requested to review the book. I got the arc, but somewhere around the 20% mark, I found myself unable to continue, so I stopped the book. When I picked it up again, I was wondering why the heck I stopped reading it. When I got the break-up I realized why. Some kind of instinct was telling me to not reach that mark. Why? Because Emory uses a stupid reason to break things off with Knox and there is an EIGHT YEAR SEPARATION. YES, EIGHT FRIGIN YEARS. Both of them have slept with many other people in those years and yet when they were dating they never got to that stage. Emory received her first oral from an unknown man during the separation and Knox had Mia. WHAT KIND OF ROMANCE IS THAT? And want to hear the best part. Emory broke things off with him because he could move to another city and didn't want to do the long distance thing AND THEY WERE LIVING IN THE SAME CITY THE WHOLE TIME. FOR 8 YEARS THEY WERE IN THE SAME CITY AND SHE NEVER SAID A THING TO HIM. So this is a stupid reason for a breakup and it ruined a perfect book. Why the eight-year separation? It literally served no purpose and it made the ending rushed. We caught up with the characters, they had sex and boom the book ended. It was rushed and sloppy. This is not the Meghan Quinn I am used to and I want the author I loved back. I didn't even have this reaction when I read another book of hers and it had a big twist (I can't say the name because I am spoiling one book per time).

Just skip the book and go read something better.

2 disappointed with the ending stars

This book started out so well! I totally got The Deal vibes, and there was good banter, great chemistry and an amazing too good to be true love interest! I smiled a lot and enjoyed the first part, which is why it's not a 1* read.

However, the last third of the book made me take off stars...

Luckily this was on KU and I have that free for 3 months, or I would have been even more annoyed! Such a shame as the book had such potential, and I did like it to start with ☹️

Title: The Locker Room
Author: Meghan Quinn

DO NOT Under ANY circumstances read this book before bedtime. You have been warned.
Why?
Because this book is so good, you can kiss your sleep goodbye!

I love a Meghan Quinn book. Love it but The Locker Room was on a whole new level.

I was asked to leave my bedroom because I was howling with laughter. I wasn't even done with the first chapter and I was laughing my ass off.
I have read my fair share of contemporary romance novels that have made me laugh with joy but this book...this book had so many hilarious moments! I devoured this book. I loved this book so much!

TheLockerRoom_teaser-1-2[1]

Listen, I loved Knox and Emory! I loved their chemistry and their friendship so much so that I am writing this review for the second time in less than 6 hours (I lost my first draft and cried my eyes out).
Emory is shy but has a sassiness to her that makes for such a fun read. Knox is just intoxicatingly amazing.

TheLockerRoom_teaser-5-2
Knox and Emory's story in The Locker Room is filled with so much angst that is frustrating sizzling.
But I think what I adored most about this book, something that makes it so realistic and a factor that will make me reread this book over and over again is the strong foundation of friendship. Their friendship gave me goosebumps and belly flips inside my tummy.

Yes, the angst makes for an addictive and exciting read. And yes, the romantic swoon worthy moments are part love and friendship and I loved that because it wasn't clouded with lust and sex.

BUT let me tell you, when Knox and Emory FINALLY get together? Fireworks were bursting from the pages of the book.

I shiver with emotions when I think about these two characters and their story.

Plus, I LOVE LOVE LOVE a second chance romance and somehow Meghan Quinn was able to put that trope into this already amazing book.

The Locker Room will not disappoint you at all. This beauty will make you laugh your ass off and break your tender romantic heart with its emotional scenes. But have no fear!
The Locker Room by Meghan Quinn is STUNNING.
It's The "Oreo angels are singing/Sports romance lovers are celebrating/the romantic hearts are swooning" type of STUNNING.

Overall Opinion: This was a cute college athlete story that sucked me in because it was just that, a cute college athlete story 🤦🏻‍♀️ It's a sickness people! 😂 Anyways....I enjoyed it, but didn't love it. I enjoyed their witty banter, the H, the super hot tension, and the side characters. But! The ending was way too abrupt and just felt kind of meh to me. Its no secret that I am picky in what I call a "HEA" ending and this didn't qualify for me. I really didn't mind the that seemed to have bothered so many readers, but I DID get bothered with the fact that we don't have time to experience them adjusting to their new lives together or to get what I would call a HEA! It felt way too rushed and I frankly felt cheated by the ending. I don't think I'll learn my lesson though and will continue to read NA and college athlete stories to feed the sickness...

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Emory and Knox's story. Emory transfers to a new college after having her heart broken by her long term high school boyfriend. She meets Knox in an unexpected way and meets him again when they realize they have a class together. Knox, who is one of the school's top baseball players, isn't used to being shut down by girls and starts a strong pursuit to win Emory over. There are some big life changes, some hot sexy times, and some sweet moments...and they get a HFN ending.

Point Of View (POV): This alternated between Emory and Knox's POV.

Overall Pace of Story: It was mostly good, but the ending felt too abrupt for my liking. I never skimmed.

Instalove: No, they take a while to develop stronger feelings.

H (Hero) rating: 4.5 stars. Knox. I really liked him. He was an awesome mix of funny, sexy, and sweet.

h (heroine) rating: 3 stars. Emory. I liked her sass and composure, but then she frustrated me when she pushed away so much (might also be because I liked the H so much).

Sadness level: Low/moderate. I teared up a few times but I never needed any tissues.

Push/Pull: Yes

Heat level: Hot. They have some hot tension, chemistry, and scenes -- but not so much it takes away from the story. .

Descriptive sex: Yes

OW (Other Woman)/OM (Other Man) drama: Not in the typical sense

Sex scene with OW or OM: No

Cheating: No

Separation: Yes

Possible Triggers: Yes

Closure: This had an okay epilogue with what I would call a HFN ending . I still wanted more though! .

Safety: This one is probably either Safe or Safe with exception for most safety gang readers depending on personal preferences.

The Locker Room is annoying read to be honest.
I still like the rom com and the fun banter at the beginning of the book. And that is about it what I like about this book.

Emory attitude is just annoying b*tch. Her attitude toward Knox is just... frustrating. I mean the guy still hang up on her after 8 years of separation. 8 years, ladies!!! I think it is unfair for Knox to wait for Emory for 8 years. Knox deserves a much more worthy heroine. Yes I understand the reason Emory broke up with Knox. But come on! Miss Quinn surely can give us better plot/ heroine.

Ugh! I am now so frustrated.

ARC Audiobook Review

3 ⭐⭐⭐ slow burn stars for this book!

I'll be short on this review, because I'm listening to the box set with the first three books in this series, so I'll keep them short but honest...

I loved the start of this book!
Their connection was so strong that it was palpable!
It read super funny and make me laugh out loud a few times!

Knox was super sweet, focused and caring... Emory was more reserved because she was burned by her ex boyfriend before, but she couldn't help herself around Knox! He was just irresistible!

I was completely in love with the story and the slow building of their relationship, until the plot twist around 60/70% of the book...
After that unfortunately, the author definitely lost my interest.

The reasons why they separate from each other still in college, or the 8 years before they even see each other again, although living in the same city, didn't sit well with me at all, and totally ruined the fun and carefree vibe that I was having with this book, and the whole "always and forever" kinda of love that the author portrait until then.

About the Audiobook Narration...

5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ to Felicity Monroe because she carried the book on her back! Literally! Her chapters were funny and incredibly well done, full of emotions and wits.

1 ⭐ to Rock Engle because unfortunately, I can't say the same for him.
His voice were too old to be Knox and he looked like a drunk man in almost the entire book! Dragging words and eating up letters while forcing an accent that didn't fit at all. His words weren't clear, and I had a hard time to understand him a bunch of times.

At the end, I wish the book were narrated by a single person, even if I always prefer the dual one.

Right off the bat (haha, pun intended!) I loved me some Knox Gentry! He knew that Emory was something special and he pursued her. How could she resist his adorable quirkiness and sense of humor. But resist she did...for a while anyway. And it was good for Knox and Emory both to really get to know each other.
I did NOT like the decision that Emory made that impacted both their lives. I understood it, but did not like it. And while I thought there should have been more time spent on the fall out of that decision, it was still a 5 star from me!

Ughhh I am SO. MAD. about this book!! It was a 6/5 stars for me...until around 80%. The couple breaks up, like in all romance books, which is to be expected, and I expected there to be a week or so before they got back together. Instead,

I absolutely adore Knox though! He was the literal perfect boyfriend. Everything you could want! He was so sweet and patient with Emory, and they fit together so well. I loved their joking around, and I loved how much his mom loved Emory too. So cute.

If what I said under the spoiler tag hadn't happened, this would have bene a 5 star book for SURE, but because of it and how angry I was (I legitimately cried angry tears), I'm dropping to 3 stars.

It my god, this was all kinds of adorable and heartbreaking

ARC received in exchange for an honest review

From the very first page I was sucked in and was there until the very end. As soon as I started I couldn’t stop and oh my gosh what a ride it was.

Emory and Knox’s first meeting was so crazy and fun that you couldn’t help but laugh. Having them both together is the absolute best thing. They’re funny and compliment each other in the greatest of ways. He’s cocky but she stands her ground and gives him the same back. It’s so good.

Meghan Quinn truly does put her all into this book and delivers us with a cracking story filled with amazing characters and an incredible storyline that will have you addicted.

The Locker Room was a slow burn romance that slams with you so many feels you won’t see them coming. It’s funny and gripping and an absolute beauty.

Never have I almost DNFd a book at the 80% mark.

Some angry spoiler rambling ahead.

I was literally thinking about giving it a 4-5 star rating and now refuse to rate it because I loved most of it but then the last part ruined it all.

I was so into this book, I thought it was amazing and then all of a sudden its like oh yeah so they've broken up and now it's 8 years later wHAT.

I had read a later book in this series and it did a similar thing BUT IT WASN’T EIGHT FUCKING YEARS WHAT THE FUCK
WHY WOULD YOU NOT ONLY DO THIS BUT KEEP DOING IT

If you’re going to do a thing where they break up and date/ sleep other people before realising they’re in love with each other maybe don’t do it at the 80% mark because then everything is way too rushed. I also just didn’t care at that point, could not care less about what happened.
