Of the People's Bible commentaries that I've read this year, I liked this one the best. Victor Prange is succinct. He doesn't repeat himself, but just notes with chapter and verse where else something was mentioned. He references other parts of Scripture similarly. A good book to have on hand when reading Luke.
Helpful commentary book to ensure one is fully understanding how each verse may be interpreted through Lutheran theology. Will continue working my way through the bible with more of these.
This book was written by an author who was not a witness to Jesus works, Luke. It is written in a manner that describes the mission of all Christians. The author of this commentary ties Luke to the other Gospels and discusses how the world has heard the good news and must continue to hear the good news until Jesus returns! (2nd Reading)
Luke provides a chronological history of Jesus life from birth to ascension. The entire book is about Jesus life, focusing on what Jesus said and did. When Jesus taught, he opened the scriptures to the disciples on the road to Emmaus to spread his Word and teach others through the generations. Opening the scriptures to the disciples was proof of his resurrection. Jesus lives and so will we! (3rd Reading)
The parables provide a warning as well as encouragement. Jesus used parables to teach about God's mercy and love. The disciples as well as many followers were amazed at what Jesus taught through parables. Those opposing Jesus knew exactly when a parable was a warning. When one is blessed by God, praising Him through Jesus' work becomes a response to His love! (4th Reading)
