Marie Rydzynski-Ferrarella
aka Marie Charles, Marie Michael, Marie Nicole, Marie Ferrarella

Marie Rydzynski was born on March 28 in West Germany to Polish parents. She moved to America at the age of four. For an entire year, Marie and her family explored the eastern half of the country before finally settling in New York.

Marie swears she was born writing, "which must have made the delivery especially hard for my mother." From an early age, Marie's parents would find her watching television or tucked away in some private place, writing at a furious pace. "Initially, I began writing myself into my favourite shows. I was a detective on '77 Sunset Strip,' the missing Cartwright sibling they never talked about on 'Bonanza' and the 'Girl from U.N.C.L.E.' before there was a 'Girl from U.N.C.L.E.,' not to mention an active participant in the serialized stories of 'The Mickey Mouse Club.'" Marie began to write her first romance novel when she was 11 years old, although she claims that, at the time, she didn't even realize it was a romance! She scribbled off and on, while dreaming of a career as an actress.

Marie was only 14 when she first laid eyes on the man she would marry, truly her first love, Charles Ferrarella. During her days at Queens College, New York, acting started to lose its glamour as Marie spent more and more time writing. After receiving her English degree, specialising in Shakespearean comedy, Marie and her family moved to Southern California, where she still resides today.

After an interminable seven weeks apart, Charles decided he couldn't live without her and came out to California to marry his childhood sweetheart. Ever practical, Marie was married in a wash-and-wear wedding dress that she sewed herself, appliqués and all. "'Be prepared' has always been my motto,"the author jokes. This motto has been stretched considerably by her two children, Nikky and Jessi, "but basically, it still applies," she says.

In November of 1981, she sold her first novel for Harlequin. Marie, who now has written over 150 novels, has one goal: to entertain, to make people laugh and feel good. "That's what makes me happy," she confesses. "That, and a really good romantic evening with my husband." She's keeping her fingers crossed that her reader's enjoy reading her books as much as she enjoyed writing them.

Though a part of the law but not law enforcement, Janelle Cavanaugh is given a case that would be THE CASE of her entire career. Hoping to move further up in her career, she finds that this case would turn her life upside down. Everything she know to be fact becomes smoke.

The district attorney (whose assistant's assistant Janelle is) gets a bodyguard for her because the D. A. believes that her life hangs in the balance of this case.

Detective Sawyer Boone does not want to have this babysitting duty to the Chief of Detective's daughter but has no say in the matter and unable to get his assignment changed. Therefore, he is stuck with this woman who brings out the possessiveness and protectiveness in him (which he does not want to feel).

While she works on the case, her father Brian Cavanaugh, asks her to withdraw because she is related to the accused by blood. He tells her the secret that he has kept for all her life. Tells her that she is the result of her mother's infidelity.

But at the same time he assures her that only he is her father and she his daughter in all the ways that mattered. Janelle goes into shock and it takes Sawyer's clear headedness and stubbornness to get her to realize that what her father told her was absolutely the truth. She understands that some other man may have fathered her but Brian Cavanaugh was, is and remain her father and she was a Cavanaugh and nothing could change that.

Sawyer on the other hand has just one hope in his life since he lost his fiance. And that is to eliminate as many bad guys as he can and be eliminated someday as well. But all that change when he starts developing feelings for the woman who he is to guard. Even with no point of reference to work a relationship he has every intention of doing his best to make it work with the beautiful assistant A.D.A.

And thus they find themselves on their path to "till death do us part".

Love had found all the other cousins in her family, and she was not going to be next! Even if she now had a beefy bodyguard that she didn't need or want.
What She was expecting, however, was to be 2nd seat on a slam-dunk case. Until she got a phone from the accuses' father, and even before trial could begin, she had to recluse herself. Frustrated and determined to find justice and no need for her bodyguard any longer, she sets our to try and find out who was the mole, and If the accused was truly innocent as his father said.
With vacation time stocked up that he never had a desire to take since he lost his fiancé in drive by shooting years ago. And his heart was in the balance of being lost, He wasn't about to leave Janelle exposed as she could still get hurt.

Together they find the mole, find justice and find their love for each other!

This book started out really slow to me, but man, once it hit the climax it was very entertaining. I loved the way Sawyer and Janelle acted around each other. Both being so sarcastic and purpously trying get under the other's skin. Their constant bickering really gave the story a humorous feel. What started off as being a babysitter job to detective Boone, ended up being the start of his new life. The sense of family loyalty is very strong in the book and when a secret is told, this great big family is the only thing that can bring them back together.
