Although this is a stand alone, to get clear picture of the Grey family and Garren Grey, it is better to read the first book in this series. It gives many examples of how callous, spiteful and drugged he was.
Alyssa is an alpha on a mission to make her pack strong and to be top level among the packs. When Alyssa finds they are getting a new member, she is determined to train them to rise and strengthen the pack.
Garren is a bitter, spoiled weak prince. As time passes within the pack, he is taken under the Beta Blaine's wing and detoxes and reconnects with his wolf. He also be comes stronger, not just physically. He soon learns how to wield his powers and discovers new ones, rare ones.
Fighting along side Alyssa and his new pack, Garren learns a new respect for not only the "commoners", but also his brother Gavin. There is a positive change in his relationship with his youngest brother Gavin. The father's behavior is up and down. For someone who wanted to help Garren, he still treated him badly, until the end. The father's behavior was too all over the place.
What doesn't make sense is no one in Alyssa's pack knowing who Garren was when it is stated that the Grey royal family was not just in the wolf media, but also in the human media. Alyssa new his name and about his exploits and nickname. Even her sister commented about how he looked more handsome in person than in the media.
The author did a good job changing Garren from the antagonist, in the first book,to the protagonist in this one.
The story contains action, family drama and heat. If this is what interests you, you will probably enjoy this book.

King Grey has had enough of his eldest son's wayward ways. Garren is supposed to be the next King of the Pack of Shadows but all he is interested in is alcohol, drugs and women. The king decides that enough is enough and issues and ultimatum to Garren. The ascension process is frozen, his status temporarily withdrawn and he is going to a military academy as a lowly commoner. If anyone finds out who he is, there will be consequences, but the catch is, it will not be on Garren!

A fabulously action packed wolf shifter romance. Once I'd started this I couldn’t put it down. There is action, family drama, magic, redemption, treachery, steamy romance, some great twists and HEA.
This is a great continuation of the series. Garren is Prince Gavin's bother (Alpha's Frost Bound Mate) and now his younger brother has got married their father has decided that it is time for Garren to step up himself and prove he's ready to rule the Shadow kingdom. Despite being the Heir Garren has spent so much time living off drugs, alcohol and sex that he's lost his connection with his wolf, so he's sent to train with the Dark Hunters Pack where no one knows him.
Alyssa is the Alpha of the pack and is disappointed to have to replace one of her team with a new omega who seems to have no strength. But after being given a strict start he works hard to enable their pack to go on missions again. Though on their first mission something goes wrong and Alyssa and Garren are caught by the witches they were hunting. While trying to get information from the pair things are revealed and he starts to discover new powers with his wolf.
This can be read as a standalone book but is the 2nd in a series and I can't wait to find out what happens with Grayden and his potential mate in the next book.

Wow, this was a fascinating story!! Garren is next in line to become the king and he has been living the life of debauchery. His father had enough and sent him to a military camp to shape up or Garren will not become the next king.
The school is very strict, as he finds out his first day and he begins to change his behavior and attitude. He becomes an excellent fighter and member of the Dark Hunters, wielders of darkness, under their Alpha, Alyssa. She also happened to be his fated mate! They are preparing to fight a coven of witches who are trying to destroy the wolves.
Garren and Alyssa were captured and needed to work together using their unique individual powers to escape. Once free, their relationship deepened and their happily ever after begins; however, not without some additional challenges.
Ruby Brinks has such a talent for crafting gripping stories, and Shadow King's Redemption is no exception. Not only is it about Garren's redemption in the eyes of his father, the king. It is about personal growth, understanding and accepting oneself, as well as making and keeping meaningful commitments.

I really enjoyed reading Garren’s story finally we get to see his side of things. In the previous book I’d written him off as an arrogant spoiled playboy prince. He may be royalty but he lost his battle to his addictions long ago. His father sends him to military camp hoping to clean up his act once there sober for the first time in years Garren discovers his inner strength also strengthening his connection to his wolf. He’s a completely different person from his time with the Dark Hunter pack where he learns humility and teamwork among many other life lessons he was denied as a prince. I couldn’t help but root for him while he worked towards redeeming himself to his people as well as proving to himself that he could be a better leader than he ever was before. Between Garren slowly building his skills with darkness and the pack fighting the witches I found this book hard to put down it was just such an immersive experience and had my heart racing throughout. I loved how strong Alyssa is shes not going to be pushed around she has a pack to run after all. The fact that we get to see previous characters from the first book was such a treat I loved seeing Gavin again.

As Garren is cleaned up and becomes humbled by those around him, he works hard to prove himself to Blaine and Alyssa. When Alyssa and Garren are captured by their enemies, the witches, during a mission that goes wrong, revelations are made that will change their lives and those around them forever. Jam-packed with drama and action, this is a great story of redemption and having faith in yourself and trusting those that are close to you. It was lovely to see a strong heroine, one who gave the orders. With heat and steam added in, you will be hooked from the beginning.

This book tells the story of Garren who is the heir to the throne but is squandering his life on booze, drugs and women.
His father the King has had enough and sends him off to join a military unit without revealing who he is.
The alpha of the pack he is assigned to is Alyssa who is not going to allow Garren to ruin their reputation.
It is a baptism of fire for Garren but ultimately just what needs as it forces him to turn his life around get clean and start contributing in a meaningful way.
There is plenty to keep you absorbed war with witches, getting captured and ultimately a HEA.

Can Garren redeem himself and leave his raunchy lifestyle behind? Surprises, action galore and ample off the charts hot 🔥 pages make this a thrilling combination to binge on. Not too forget the complex Grey family dynamics. Add in the Witches and you've got a page turner. A fated mates with a HEA, but the storyline by no means end here as Graynor dumps a bomb at the end. Can be read as a stand alone, but I'm personally glad I read the previous book as it gave me insight into the Grey pack.

Brinks has brought us another awesome paranormal story of werewolves and witches. This one is action-packed, has lots of family drama, and is as it says in the title, redemption and of course, steamy romance. This is Garren and Alyssa's story. Ruby does an excellent job at character development; which makes this a page turner you don't want to put down. The twists and turns and suspense kept me reading long into the night. Well worth reading as all of Brinks books are!

I really enjoyed this book. Garren is sent to a military camp without his title of Heir apparent by his father to get his act together. Alyssa is the Alpha of the Dark Hunter pack he is assigned to. The wolves are fighting the witches and both of them have to work together. This is well-written and the characters are brought to life to engage the reader. Highly recommended reading.

It was great to see Garren as redeemable in this book compared to the first one which was such a stark contrast. His character development was well written and this plot very cunning. Alyssa was not only a beautiful character but a strong one as well. I absolutely enjoyed this story and the connection between Garren and Alyssa grow.

Great book. Fantastic story plot of romance and emotional. I was on the edge of my seat and I couldn’t put it down. I loved it. Who will be in power in taking over the kingdom. It was fate they will fall in loved with each other was they the one for each other. Will their love be enough to save them.

As a witness to a lot of entitled boys growing up, I had a feeling I wasn't going to like the prince. Garren wasn't an easy character to love until he finally steps up and makes himself worthy of the prize he wanted, the love of the alpha Alyssa. It was a a difficult journey and yet something equally enthralling to witness and I was happy to have shared their story with them. A nice read with angst, learning, growing, and loving!

A fun fated mates story where the couple meet at a military camp. Was fun watching Garren grow from a punk prince to a fighting machine. But of course things never go smoothly for fated mates and they must deal with drama, danger, captured by the enemy, escaping and their feeling for each other along with training. Garren and Alyssa were a blast to watch.

I liked how Garren and Alyssa were as standalone characters and their character development didn't depend upon each other. The spice was a nice bonus. Worked well as a standalone, but felt like reading the first book in the series would have given better background and increased enjoyment of Garren. Wow!! Yes to this and all that will come after in this series. I am hooked. Loved Garren and Alyssa’s story. Two alphas fated to be together figuring out life through violence and family drama. Plenty of hot passion and love as well. Twists to boot so there are many directions to go. Loved it.

I got to read this through BookSirens as an ARC. It is the 2nd book of the series, but they can both be read as standalone. I would recommend reading the first book, though! It's got a different take on werewolves and witches.

Such a great story! It flows well and keeps you reading! Garren and Alyssa’s story is an interesting one! How they meet and finally figure things out was interesting. The Shadow King has grown up!
