Photographs of students, teachers, and coaches at Rossville High School in Rossville, Kansas, combined with the students' own words, capture the highschool experience from football season to graduation and through identity struggles and romantic involvements
A charming collection of eye candy for anyone who adores the 1970's, rural Midwest high schools and/or those awkward teenaged years. The grainy black and white photos tell the narrative of three years of homecoming, Christmas pranks and young love, while quotes from the students fill in the back-story. While the photographer comes across as slightly obsessive, the students themselves are honest and disarming, lending the book some heart. There's nothing ground-breaking here but High School: U.S.A. is a pleasant read for nostalgia hounds or anyone who enjoys an afternoon spent leafing through old issues of Time and Life.
