Alicia S. Rivers has done a fantastic job meshing High Fae, Olympic God Mythology, Alice in Wonderland, with a little touch of Beauty and the Beast. Deviant Maze follows Ariadne, Addy to her friends, as she travels to Kings Hollow to try and win the hand of the Duke in order to save her beloved little sister Meda. While there, she befriends one of the other girls and her guard, "Captain." After a misunderstanding, Addy enters the maze and finds herself in a new world. Once in the maze, Addy meets a black-talking tiger named Chess, and a giant minotaur named Min. While She is in the maze, Addy learns so much about herself. She learns about her past, things about her present are made clear, and she learns what she needs for her future. Check out the first book in the Deviant series. This is a wild ride of adventure, betrayal, friendship, found family, and a true love that will last the ages.
I wasn’t expecting much since there had only been a few reviews, but was pleasantly surprised by the creative ways the author integrated several lores cohesively.
The first 80%, through exiting the maze, was well written with a few typos, but then, it felt like the author must have taken an extended hiatus. The last 20% was a jumble of ideas and the writing felt completely different with characters acting strangely compared to earlier in the book. The only good thing about the last 20% was there were no more typos.
I wish it had ended after the maze instead of drawing it out into extra potential books.
Alicia S. Rivers takes you to a world that’s completely fantastical. The maze is a place where almost anything goes, and you have to find your way through it. Addy is the main character, and she is on a journey to save her family but she quickly discovers, that for every answer that she finds, she discovers more and more questions! Deviant Maze is a book that you can’t put down with lots of twists and turns that you never see coming! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 10/10
Nothing is as it seems. Addy our main character has had a very rough life. She has an evil step mother...she sees things that arent there. She has to make some tough choices and go on an intersting and enlightening journey to save her family. Along this journey she'll make friends and enemies. this book will take you through all the emotions and then some. you will cheer and scream and almost throw your kindle but you will love every minute of it.
Don't get attached to the characters, the author will sacrifice your favorite ones for fun and laugh
Excellent world building. Perfectly done descriptions. I felt like I was in the story. I laughed. I cried. The anxiety and plot twists are spectacular and unexpected. I fully intend on recommending the book and the author to everyone who will listen. Absolutely lovely story. Spicy and wholeheartedly enjoyed the POVs
You follow the FMC through her journey to save her sister. The characters are thought-inducing. The story is mysterious and keeps you guessing until the very end.
Not the typical from this author but it kept me wanting more.
Read as we see through Addy's eyes when her father goes missing and she's left with her step mother who wants to marry her off to the Duke. Definitely not want Addy wants but she loves her sister so she humors the Step Mother.
Everything unfolds from there and takes you on a unique, magical journey through the Maze which becomes eye opening to Addy.
Love the constant "what's around the next corner" moments and how the small details are woven into the final story.
Magical fantasy with some romantic bits sprinkled in.
Can't wait to see where this series takes me next. Definitely recommend reading this book!
