A wonderful book, written in 1982, the year following England’s legendary victory over Australia. Brearley was the England captain, brought in after England were already 1-0 down to the old enemy and the original captain Ian Botham had resigned after the previous test, having scored nought in both innings. Brearley was a fine county batsman but his great contribution to English cricket was as a leader and nowhere was this better shown that in the 1981 Ashes series. An incredibly interesting book, beautifully written, which takes us into the minds of many of that fabulous team including Botham himself, Boycott, Bob Willis and others. Terrific.
