Emma Mackenzie wants nothing more than an independent life, and she’s well on her way to securing it. But one thing stands in her Nicholas Forester, the man with whom she’s in competition for her grandfather’s land and money. If Nick can find a wife, that is. Her plan is she will prevent him from forming any attachments and claiming the inheritance that is rightfully hers.
Nick will settle for nothing less than the deepest love—but there’s a catch. He must marry before the year is out if he is to inherit a great fortune. When he meets a lively young woman during his visit to the country, their attraction is immediate. Almost as immediate as his regret when he realizes that the woman is none other than Emma, the one person who could ruin his financial future. As a web of secrets begins to unravel and romantic subterfuge ensues, Nick and Emma find themselves unlikely allies. When Emma learns that she, too, is required to wed before she can claim the inheritance, she sees only one scenario in which everyone gets what they want. But with everything she’s done to get in Nick’s way, the task before her may prove impossible. She must convince him to marry her.
Ahh Nick! I’ve been looking forward to his story ever since reading What Dreams May Come. I loved him & Emma. Their delightful journey from enemies/rivals to friends to more was filled with witty humor, swoon-worthy romance, & delicious banter. It was such a fun rollercoaster with plenty of twists that I couldn’t put down!
Nick Forester’s finally forced to find a wife, if he wants to inherit Mackenzie Manor & all its holdings. Nick isn’t a direct relative though & standing in his way is Mr. Mackenzie’s granddaughter Emma. Both must marry in order to inherit, but Nick’s told he must marry before the year is out.
Both Emma & Nick are opposed to the idea. Nick wants to marry for love & Emma wants to remain independent. In a brilliant Regency version of You’ve Got Mail, these two rivals unknowingly meet & find an instant attraction, but what happens when they learn each other’s identity? The sparks fly as they try to outwit each other & prevent the other from inheriting. The longer they’re in each other’s company though, the more their feelings change & they find themselves unlikely allies. But with time running out, will they embrace their feelings before it’s too late?
I loved Nick! Underneath the braggadocious yet charming exterior is a man hurting from the past. I loved peeling back the layers of his personality throughout the story. Emma’s complicated as well & has her own insecurities though she’s extremely intelligent, strong, & capable as well as kind & loving. The chemistry between them is explosive & I loved their verbal battles. I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough to see how they would resolve their differences.
This book had me laughing out loud (ghost cow), swooning with delight, & sighing at the beautiful letters. Move over Capt. Wentworth! Every time Nick said “dear Emma,” I couldn’t help but sigh. It was also fun seeing characters from previous books & can’t wait for the next story.
A must read for Regency romance fans! While this can definitely be read as a standalone, it’s more enjoyable if you’ve read the previous books. I received an advanced complimentary copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own and voluntarily provided.
Loved this story especially Nick, he cracked me up! I love that it’s an enemies to lovers story! The banter between Nick and Emma was great as was the romance! I definitely recommend!
This was a charming and beautiful regency romance from Dana LeCheminant. I loved it so much!
Emma wants an independent life and is looking to inherit her grandfather’s estate. The only thing standing in her way is Nick Forester, who she is in competition with. If Nick can find a wife in 3 months he will inherit the land Emma so desperately wants. So Emma formulates a plan, keep Nick from finding a wife. Inheriting the Makenzie estate is the only hope Nick seems to have for a future, but he is a romantic looking for true love in such a short time. The two compete against each other, but as time goes on they start to enjoy each other's company more and more.
This was so beautifully written! The book started with the most adorable meet cute and then took off with the most amazing enemies/rivals banter! I loved Nick's character and his different dimensions, his depth and his vulnerability. He has quite the journey to finding the man he used to be and becoming happy again. Of course Emma has a big part in that. I really enjoyed Nick and Emmas antics as they battled against each other. I smiled so much, but for me the best part was how at the same time they couldn’t help but admire each other. I loved everytime Nick smiled, the two of them blushing, and their confusion over their attraction to each other. Emma noticed Nick's kindness and genuineness even when she wanted to hate him. When they finally realized they were falling for each other, oh my, it was the swooniest!!! My heart melted so much! This book was romantic and absolute perfection! You need to read it!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
“He ached to bend down and touch his lips to hers in a kiss. She was the only woman in the world who had ever met him step for step, and he couldn’t let that go.”
I’ve been dying for Nick’s story and I was ever so happy to get my hands on this one. Both Emma and Nick stand to inherit her grandfather’s money and land…but they each stand in the other’s way. In a rivals, almost enemies-to-love, vibe, this duo works towards securing the future of their dreams, while each being forced their hands to marry. There’s nothing like rivalry that brings out the romantic tension.
As the layers slowly peeled away, Nick’s reasons for his over-the-top attitude are revealed, while Emma’s strong, yet kind, character shines through the bantering moments. And oh, that banter is delicious! The underlying chemistry sets the stage for this Regency retelling of a beloved movie and LeCheminant delivers a beautifully satisfying story full of heart and humor that was easy to devour.
This book can stand alone and is well worth the read.

"Everything I have, everything I am, is yours, dear Emma. I thought I might never be whole again, but you pieced me back together..."
Nick & Emma
Suffering from a broken heart, Nick hides behind lies he makes up about himself. When Emma Mackenzie learns that the land she thought she would inherit is set to be inherited by Nick Forester if he were to marry by a certain date, she sets about to stop him from finding a wife. He only wants to marry for love, but must find a wife in such a short amount of time so that he can inherit those lands. What a difficult conundrum he faces. Then he meets Emma, who will inherit those lands if he isn't married in time, or so they think. No spoilers here! If she is married, Nick believes, she won’t have need of the lands he is supposed to inherit from her grandfather. The result? Enemies to friends to something more!
Oh my, this was a unique and beautiful story of two people destined to love each other, if only they could just see each other clearly! The banter and tension in this one was so thick, I could cut it with a butter knife. But the friendship and eventual love that formed between them after getting to know each other was exquisite and just made for one of the loveliest Regencies I have read.
Emma is strong-willed, not wanting to get married, and set on inheriting her grandfather’s lands. She is smart, brave, so incredibly sassy and a complete spitfire. But she is also kind and loving and gentle. If only she could foil Nick Forester’s plans to find a wife, then those lands would be hers. I laughed at their banter! Dana did an amazing job at really making them hate each other at the beginning.
Nick is this cinnamon roll who deep down just wants to do right, but his poor heart. My own heart just ached for him.
When they start to become friends and really get to know each other, their friendship is so sweet. I loved watching their friendship and relationship blossom.
Dana weaves some lovely pieces of life advice and romantic quotes into this one, with Nick’s lines and thoughts being oh so swoony! She is a master at creating believable and complex characters into her stories.
I don’t want to give any spoilers away, but please just read or listen to this one! It’s a new favorite for sure!
Things I learned from Nick: Always be a nuisance. It's ok to gossip as long as it about your own self. Everyone loves a dangerous rogue.

A perfect regency enemies to lovers with You've Got Mail vibes! Emma wants to inherit her grandfather's estate but Nick might beat her to it if he can procure a wife. Then the planning and scheming begins and I love the tension and banter. The icing on the cake is when they begin falling for each other. Completely loved this story. There are cameos from book one but can also be read and enjoyed as a stand alone.
We finally get Nick's story and what a story it is! Enemies/rivals to love is one of my favorite things to read, and the mix of romance, wit and a clever plot kept me hooked from start to finish. Nick and Emma are both competing for the same inheritance which makes for an often amusing story. Emma's determination to outwit Nick, fueled by her desire for independence, adds a fun twist to the usual enemies-to-lovers trope.
Nick has to marry to inherit the Mackenzie estate, and he's depending on that estate if he's to have any kind of future. But Nick wants more than just a business arrangement in marriage; he’s holding out for true love.
Nick and Emma's chemistry is immediate, and their battle over the inheritance lends itself to a lot of witty comments and sharp dialogue, which is one reason I love enemies to more stories. There's a thin line between love and hate and the more time these two spend with each other, the closer they get to crossing that line.
I loved the dual POV (always a favorite), the scheming (ghost cow anyone?), the letters, and cameos of favorite characters, but I especially loved the evolution of their relationship, from rivals to allies. Nick and Emma's story is full of tension but also has many heartfelt moments.
This is a charming and engaging read that will appeal to fans of historical romance and strong, independent heroines. Emma and Nick’s journey is both humorous and heartwarming, making this book a memorable read. This is the second book in the series but can be read as a standalone.
I received a complimentary ebook from the author. All thoughts and opinions in this review are my own.
All the stars!!!! Oh my goodness this book was everything. True enemies to lovers. You’ve got mail vibes. The banter was amazing. The romance delicious in every way. Goodness I loved it. The piano scene The ghost cow The alleyway The ball The letters.
Dana is one of my must-read authors, and I was so excited to read Nick's story since he was one of my favorite things in What Dreams May Come!
Nick and Emma are both trying to secure the same inheritance - but there's a stipulation that the heir must be married to be eligible to inherit. Emma doesn't want to marry and lose her independence, but she wants to hold on to her home. Nick only wants to marry for love, but he desperately needs this inheritance. This leads to a battle full of sabotage, rumors, and matchmaking. The only problem is that they get completely distracted by each other!
I loved this unique story that had some hilarious moments right along with some soul-searching and healing.
And as always, I love a book that uses letters, and this one had a few great ones! 💌
And here's my favorite quote, because enemies to lovers is always my favorite:
"There is a fine line between love and loathing, Mr. Forester, and the pair of you have clearly begun to test the strength of it, seeing how close you can get before the line snaps." 💗
You've got Mail regency vibes! I devoured this sweet story! I especially enjoyed the banter with the enemies to lovers! One of my favorite parts is the cowbell IYKYK!
I received an ARC from the publisher and all opinions are my own.
This was my first historical romance by Dana and it will certainly not be my last! I understand now why I have heard so many good things about this book and series. I absolutely loved this book!
Emma and Nick are fantastic characters with hilarious witty banter. I love a good enemies to lovers story and this is top notch. They begin the story as sworn enemies fighting for the same inheritance. The way they go back and forth is clever and funny. They both work to secure their futures against each other. But quickly they discover how right for each other they are. I loved seeing them form a friendship and then more.
Set against the backdrop of Regency London, their love story is beautiful and engaging. I loved this loose retelling of You've Got Mail. Both Emma and Nick fall for each other so gradually, they don't realize they have fallen until they're already in love with each other. I enjoyed seeing them fall for each other -- each interaction (good and bad), each conversation, each witty reply, each letter, each stolen moment was beautiful and sweet. I was rooting for them to fall in love from the first time they meet in the shop.
The story also features a lovely cast of characters surrounding Emma and Nick. I felt invested in everyone's stories and connections. The friendships between Nick and his friends were endearing. I loved how they support each other like brothers. And Emma has so much support from her sister, Tabitha, brother in law, cousin and Grandfather. While they don't always see eye to eye with their families, both Emma and Nick have so much to live for. I loved the relationships throughout the story.
Their happily ever after seems impossible but is all the more satisfying for the journey they must take to get there. The romance is beautiful. The characters are complex. And the story is engaging. I loved this one!
I enjoyed reading this book. It’s a good Regency story and is well written. Nick and Emma are charming and their relationship is delightful. The content is clean.
This book had a fun twist. A touch of "you've got mail" in it. Where they would be perfect for each other but because of different situations seem to feel they shouldn't like the other person.
I loved Emma and Nick’s characters. They were both flawed individuals whose view of life was colored by their pasts. I found myself continuing to think that the relationship in the segment of the story I was in, was wrapping up so how could I still have so much of the book left to read. The author was so clever in growing the characters and the relationship through the changes in the issues within the relationship. They came together one step at a time. The last step was a little cheesy but I like cheesy so it was all good.
This Above All is one roller coaster ride of a story! I was hooked from the start and couldn’t seem to get enough of this world that LeCheminant created! From the talkative Miss Barton, to the steady and calm Mr. Makensie, the quiet and kind Elias, to Nick and Emma themselves, I loved each and every character. The meet cute was awesome and then when they figured out who the other person actually was, I just couldn’t! The competition between Nick and Emma was on and I was all in! I loved the fierceness and fire from Emma and the unfailing preserverance from Nick. This isn’t your typical regency romance and I definitely recommend it! I received a complimentary copy of this book; all thoughts and opinions are my own.
I really didn’t enjoy reading this book. The ending was lackluster with the game Nick played and it just didn’t seem like there was enough character development to form an attachment to either one of them.
WHAT IT'S ABOUT Emma Mackenzie wants nothing more than an independent life, and she’s well on her way to securing it. But one thing stands in her Nicholas Forester, the man with whom she’s in competition for her grandfather’s land and money. If Nick can find a wife, that is. MY TAKE I will admit up front that one of my LEAST favorite tropes is enemies to lovers. Too often they're done where they're awful to each other until suddenly they're in love. And I'm left wondering HOW they could possibly love someone who has been so horrible to them. And this book started that way. Nick said some cruel things to Emma.
Fortunately, he recognizes that she doesn't bring the best out in him, and removes himself from the situation, returning to London. But she's determined to safeguard her home for herself, so she follows, planning to destroy any chance he has at finding a wife in the allotted six weeks.
The secret letters was unexpected and gave the story a Shop Around the Corner vibe, but it also provided them a chance to get to know each other. It's kind of a shame her grandfather pitted them against each other because their first meeting, before they knew who the other was, showed the spark between them and that they each has a propensity of making up stories.
One of the things I enjoyed was how Nick finally decided to take control of his life instead of acting like his only future was this promised estate from her grandfather. He stopped playing the victim.
4.5 stars LeCheminant is one of my favorite authors and I was excited to pick up this new book. I couldn’t wait to read more about Nick. He definitely deserved his own story. This Above All is the second book in Dana LeCheminant’s The Calloway series. It was even better than I expected. Nick was such a sweetheart underneath the wall that he had created. I really felt for him as he tried to navigate life and his hopes and dreams. Nick had a lot to overcome as he fought for his future. I really liked his growth throughout the book and seeing how he learned to find his happiness. Nick was searching for a family and love not realizing that he only had to be himself to find them. Emma was complicated. She was fiery and passionate. She was definitely a handful at times, but I love how she tried to be true to herself. Emma had to figure out what she truly wanted in life as she tried to navigate London and Nick. Nick had a way of overturning her plans. The romance and banter was on point. I felt as if I really got to know Nick and Emma as they fought. I like how they weren’t necessarily mean to each other. They were both such kind individuals who seemed to get on each others’ nerves. I liked the progression of their relationship as they grew to be friends. Their relationship was perfect. I adored the side characters! The family and friend relationships were perfect and really added to the book. I really want to learn more about Tabitha and Harstone ‘s relationship and how they got together. Also I need more scenes with Nick and his friends. They were so much fun together. This was such a lovely book and I would totally recommend it! I liked getting to know the characters and reading about Emma and Nick seeing each other in different lights. I also loved the relationships between the characters and their interactions. I am super excited for the books to come. This is definitely a must read! This Above All is a clean historical romance. Book Highlights: Nick getting his own story The bromance Family Emma was so fun The banter Enemies to lovers You’ve Got Mail vibes Falling in love I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion, I was not required to write a positive review.
“My wish is to see you find someone to love and cherish as you deserve, my dear.”
Until Emma Mackenzie finds love and a husband who won’t treat her as property, Emma is going to take control of her life. To find joy in every moment and hope for a happy future would make her dreams come true, which include her wanting to inherit her grandfather’s estate. But,the only thing that stands in her way is Nick Forester. So Emma comes up with a clever and simple plan: keep Nick from finding a wife. But, Emma’s plan become much more complicated when she realizes she actually might enjoying Nick’s company far too much...
No one challenges Nick more than Emma does. She is clever and fearless, and knows exactly what she wants. It doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks of her; she goes forth boldly. Even so, Nick desperately needs to inherit the Mackenzie estate and he is running out of time. It’s his last and only hope for a future. All he needs to do to is get married but as a hopeless romantic, he is holding out strong for a love match. But as Nick searches, he finds himself constantly distracted by the beautiful dear Emma, the one woman who could steal everything he so desperately wants…
“Everything I have, everything I am, is yours.”
Oh my, this is a charming and tender regency story!Precisely layered with great scheming, matchmaking, planning, plotting, and with rivals to lovers. It’s lovingly filled with such wonderful flirty banter, competition, humor, lovely You’ve Got Mail vibes, and with such endearing and layered characters. It’s a dear story that will have you drawn in immediately from the first page to the last page. While this may be the second book in the series, it can easily be read as a stand alone. But, if you love sweet Regency romance, read them all! 🙌🏻📚❤️
“No love story is perfect. There are bumpy roads. But that is what makes the journey exciting.”
“I would rather prance around Hyde Park in nothing but my underthings than go anywhere with that horrid man.”
Oh, how I love that quote! HaHa Another must read for lovers of regency romance. Emma and Nick are going to take you on quite the relationship roller coaster of emotions. Pinned against each other at the start as they’re competing for the inheritance of Emma’s grandfather. Nick can’t lay claim to her grandfather’s estate and money without finding himself a wife. He’s been given until the end of the year to do so. Emma is determined to do everything possible to ensure he doesn’t find himself a match so she can claim what she feels is rightfully hers.
Nick Forester is a complicated man. Quite beloved and despised all at the same time. He had a difficult upbringing and has fallen into a comfortable habit of stretching the truth. Emma Mackenzie is incredibly independent. She’s not afraid to speak her mind and finding a husband has never been a top priority for her. That is, until she too finds that to claim her grandfather’s inheritance, she must also find herself someone to marry. Seemingly an impossible challenge as she knows it would take a unique man to put up with her headstrong personality.
As much as these two fight and bicker, there’s something about their sparring that becomes a sport they find enjoyable if they’re being truthful. Over time, they realize they bring out the best in each other. But how do they go about navigating this situation – especially when there are secrets being harbored?
A fantastic read that I highly recommend finds its way onto your TBR!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

More than anything, Emma wants to inherit her grandfather's estate, and the only thing that stands in her way is Nick Forrester. If Nick marries, grandfather will leave everything to him. So Emma's plan seems simple: keep Nick from finding a wife. But her plans become much more complicated when she realizes she is enjoying Nick's company far too much...
Nick needs to inherit the Mackenzie estate. It is his only hope for a future and all he needs to do to is get married but as a hopeless romantic, he is holding out for a love match.
But even as he searches, he finds himself constantly distracted by the beautiful Emma, the one woman who could steal everything he so desperately wants.
What you'll love: Regency era Rivals to lovers Dual POV matchmaking independent FMC the competitive, flirty banter the letters You’ve got mail vibes character cameos Last three chapters!!!
Oh my, ADORABLE!!! Loved the "you've got mail" vibes and all the scheming and matchmaking and planning and plotting. This story kept me engaged from page one and I could not put it down! I squealed and laughed and swooned my way through the entire book.
The attraction and the push and pull tension between Emma and Nick was SO fun. Enemies to loves is one of my favorite tropes, and that moment when Nick and Emma realize they are falling for each other is just perfection! And sigh, that ending!
This is the second book in the series but can be read as a standalone, but oooh, I am so excited for Henry's story next!! Highly recommend to all fans of sweet Regency romance!
I received a complimentary copy but a positive review was not required.
Just like her sweet love stories and rom-coms, Dana LeCheminant knows how to captivate her readers in her regency novels. This Above All is a beautiful enemies to friends to so much more. Nick has faced devastating loss and born the brunt of London’s scorn to protect others. To protect his own heart, he gathers lies around his persona as if they were a shield. Now he’s on the hunt to secure a wife so he may inherit lands from a family friend. Emma has sworn off love and marriage, determined to convince her grandfather he should leave her the lands she has been tending and caring for for years, instead of giving them to the no good man not even related to them. When Nick and Emma first meet, it does not go exceptionally well. They are pitted against one another as enemies. Yet soon, sweet love does indeed grow between them.
“Nick fully understood her confusion. Not only had he behaved so abominably when they’d first met, but he had also not been himself for years. ‘And yet I have given you no reason to think well of me,”’he finished for her, dropping his gaze, as if that could hide him from her scrutiny. She had always been too intelligent to believe the mask he wore, but that didn’t mean the man beneath was much better.”
Their love is like a gentle caress hidden and protected by a wall of witty banter. The story definitely gives off the You’ve Got Mail feels while being unequivocally it’s own. Like all of Dana’s books, the supporting characters are all so well written they feel like friends you might spend time with later in the evening. So well done. Grab yourself a hot beverage and a copy of This Above All and enjoy a lovely day reading.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book. Thoughts and opinions are my own.
“There is a fine line between love and loathing, Mr. Forester, and the pair of you have clearly begun to test the strength of it, seeing how close you can get before the line snaps.”
I adored Nick in What Dreams May Come so I was really excited to have his story next!! I will say there's a fine line in enemies to lovers and this pushed it. I honestly didn't like Nick or Emma for at least 30% of the book but I persevered and I'm glad I did! Once they get past being rude and outright mean to each other I really enjoyed their story. Their characters had some depth to them I wasn't expecting. For me Emma was a little too headstrong and stubborn to fully like and if I don't like the characters I have a harder time connecting with them and that connection is what makes me root for them.
I will say the last 40% is so so good! I finally started liking the characters and could see a HEA for them. What Dreams May Come is based on While You Were Sleeping which is one of my all time favorite rom-coms. This one is loosely based on You've Got Mail which isn't one of my go to movies so maybe that's why I didn't enjoy the story as much.
"She had never struggled to converse with people; then again, she had never had anyone look at her the way Nick did. She had never had anyone give her such meaningful compliments. She had never . . . She had never known anyone like Nick Forester. What was happening to her?"
I still love Dana's books and writing even though this one took me a little longer to fall in love with!! I can't wait to see what regency romance she writes next!! I hope we get a Sweet Home Alabama one!!
I have been so excited to get Nick’s story and MY what a GREAT STORY! I absolutely loved this book! It is a definite favorite of 2024!
Nick is known to stretch the truth… rumors circulate around him wherever he goes but beneath it all, he is the man set to inherit a fortune ONLY if he complies with the terms of that inheritance. Namely, finding a wife by a certain deadline. Enter Emma, who also is required to adhere to a specific timeline in finding a husband for the SAME inheritance as Nick. Both meet by chance and find each other rather charming, until it becomes clear they are adversaries for the same goal. And that is where the fun begins!
I love a good enemies to lovers trope and this once certainly didn’t disappoint! If you enjoy You’ve Got Mail, you’re going to love this regency spin on it! Seeing Nick and Emma go to war and eventually become friends was so satisfying. I loved their interactions and the trouble they both caused throughout the story. Emma is a spitfire and she’s not afraid to tell Nick what’s what without backing down. Her actions may seem cruel, but in the end, it’s exactly the kick that Nick needed and I loved seeing his transformation throughout the book. The progression of their relationship was so well done and the ending was extremely satisfying!
Nick and Emma are a new favorite couple! I loved this story and I enjoyed every bit of the journey!
I received an advanced copy of this book from the author and publisher. I was not required to leave a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
