Embrace the Darkness, #2

The Weight of Darkness

Rate this book
It was supposed to be a week in paradise with my best friend.

That all went haywire when I got wrapped up in her family’s dark legacy, sold to the highest bidder on the internet, and then rescued by Remington Boudreaux. My best friend’s brother, Remy sees my darkness and my light.

We’re two fucked up peas in the same twisted pod, and we can’t stay away from one another. I mean, our chemistry was undeniable from the start, but now? We’re approaching a flashpoint, and I don’t know if we’ll survive the impending explosion. He’s made it clear he’s not looking for anything serious. But what’s more serious than killing together?

Being with him is like walking a tight rope, knowing I could fall. Hell, he might even push me, but I know he’d be the one to catch me before I hit the ground. I’ve never known who I am, but with him, I think I’m starting to figure it out.

Of course, it can’t last forever. Eventually, everything we’ve done will catch up to us. And we may just suffocate under the weight of it all.

The Weight of Darkness is second in a series and must be read after A Taste of Darkness. It is a dark romance in a dark world with dark themes and strong language. This read isn't suitable for everyone.

Oh. My. Gosh.
This cliffhanger at the end of this book! The questions that are still unanswered and the new ones book 2 has given me... if book 3 is as DRAMATIC as this one, we're all in trouble!

Remy continues to be frustratingly loveable. Claire is dealing with her feelings the best she can but I NEED them to get their HEA!!

I love the idea of Rhea finding something special and would love for her to get her own book too.

This book starts off exactly where the first book, A Taste of Darkness leaves off. If you haven’t read the first book, I suggest you reading that first because you will be confused. This book continues to follow Claire and Remy and how they deal with the aftermath of the events in A Taste of Darkness. Claire learns to work through and deal with all her emotions on the events that have happened to her. Remy learns to deal with and finally admit to himself the feelings he has for Claire. But can their love power through the darkness?

I LOVED this book. I loved the first book, and I loved this one just as much. You get to see the main characters grow (more Claire than Remy). You get more spice. I love a good morally gray MMC, and boy is Remy just that. And that cliffhanger!! Carly Claire just loves to keep us on the edge of our seat! Carly is starting to become one of my favorite authors and she is definitely an author I will be following. I just absolutely love her writing style. I cannot wait for book 3 to come out. This series is perfect for people that are just diving into the dark romance world. I have read quite a few dark romances, and this series is better than some that I have read. This series does not disappoint.

Carly Claire has done it again with The Weight of Darkness. This picks up where we ended A Taste of Darkness continuing Claire and Remy’s story. I love the tension between Claire and Remy along with the plot twists and turns. Claire embraces her badass self and steps into the darkness. Remy doesn’t make things easy for either of them as he continues to push her away. The spice is welcomed! The ending left me needing more. Can’t wait for book 3. If you love touch her and ☠️ morally grey dark romance this is for you. Please check the trigger warnings. Thank you for the ARC Carly!

OMG!!! This story just keeps getting darker, more twisted and utterly intense as the plot thickens. I was once again on the edge of my seat, biting my nails with anxiety, and gasping at the unexpected twists and turns that the story takes.

Claire (WOW), she really embraces her dark side. She is no longer meek or innocent. Claire shakes off a bit of her old self and starts to become the badass that she always was.

“… death is easy. It’s living that fucking hurts… I don’t want love from anyone whose soul claim is that they die for me. I want love from You people who will live for me.”

Remy, even though he wants Claire and is pulled towards her, he continually tries everything to push her away. This man can really frustrate a woman – like he does with Claire. But even if you want to just smack him hard, you can’t help but fall for his sweet and loveable side.

The banter between Remy and Claire is filled with such intense and utterly delicious sexual tension that it just oozes off the pages. These two are a bit toxic together but DAMN do they ever set fire to my body!!!

“Give me your darkness, your shadows and sharp edges. Give me your pain and your rage. And take mine in return.”

Filled with action, suspense, violence, angst, danger, drama, emotional turmoil and some very delectable moments of spiciness. Be ready to scream and shout because the ending on this part of the story left me yelling WTF!!!

Thank goodness for the talented Ms. Claire! I didn't have to wait long for the next book in this series after reading the cliffhanger in the first one, because that one left me on edge!! This book picked right back up where we left off, throwing us back into the lives of Remy, Claire and Rhea.
First off, you must read the first book in this series, otherwise this book will not make any sense! Second, please make sure to read all the warnings in this book, this is not the read for everyone.
There are dark themes in this book for sure. While I enjoyed this book, I found myself wishing that the FMC would just embrace herself or not, and stop waffling with her inner feelings all the time! But then, towards the end of the book, the author threw in that she was only 20 year old! What?! Did we know that??? For a 20 year old, she is doing really well discovering herself, especially dealing with all that she had to in her life. If made me much more sympathetic to her plight. I like the way the author writes about the struggle between light and dark and how most of life is shades of grey. You can relate with all her characters and find yourself loving even the dark ones. The only warning I will give is that she ends this book on a cliffhanger as well!!! So...we wait.
4.5 stars, and cant' wait for the next one in the series!

Let me start off by saying I'm not normally a fan of slower paced books but I think the insane amount of character development makes up for the slowed down plot line. This book starts off immediately where A Taste of Darkness ends so you WILL need to read the first book in order to understand the events of the second one. I couldn't be more proud of Claire and her character development in terms of how she's learning to embrace herself and shed the skin of who she was prior to the events of the end of book one. It takes her a while to wrap her mind around everything but honestly, in her position and with her age, that's to be expected. Remy is so infuriatingly sexy and I both want to kiss and kick him throughout this entire book. He's stubborn and the will of this man is unmatched when he's tested. I completely understand why he does what he does but man... sometimes I wanted to smack him. Overall, this book is 100% worth the read! It has a lot of darker themes mixed in so make sure to check your triggers but it's totally worth it. Also... THAT ENDING?! Excuse me?! Luckily I have book three so I don't have to agonize over waiting but DANG.

So I do like this author but I really struggled with the slower pace of this book. I understand the author is developing relationships, but there were times I lost interest. I hate saying that because the book was written well, and I love the story.

This Dark Romance is Book 2 in the Embrace the Darkness series. The book shouldn’t be read as a stand alone, instead read after book 1. Due to the darker themes in this book please check all the trigger warnings.
The romance in this book is full or angst. The MCs already have a relationship prior to this book.
The book is spicy. There are several intriguing spicy scenes that are fabulously descriptive.
This book does move at a slower pace following the MCs navigating their relationship after the traumatic events from book 1.
The characters are written well. Just when you think you know them a new side of them is exposed.
The world building is done in contemporary times with the crime lifestyle touch like in book 1. The author remains consistent in the world building making following along a breeze.

Book 2 picks up where book 1 ended, and book 2 ends with another cliffhanger that left me screaming for book 3!

You can feel the change that begins in Claire as she deals with the aftermath of the events in book 1. She's slowly getting stronger, coming into who she is, and learning to make decisions not based on other people. And the connection between her and Remy is still so strong. They become magnets anytime they are in the same room, but you never know if that means they'll rip each others clothes off or fight each other.

I felt my body relax when Remy and Claire clued Rhea into everything that has happened. She deserved to know and be included, she was always in danger, at least she knows how much and why.

Still so many questions are left waiting for answers in book 3 - Where did Wes go? What will Davos do? Who was poisoning Claire and why? What is the true history between Elaine and the Senator? Why do they act and look the way they do at Claire? What will become of Claire and Remy?

Can't wait to read more!

The Weight Of Darkness picks up where A Taste Of Darkness leaves off with Remy and Claire's dramatic, intense story. Claire has a lot to work through after everything she's been through and Remy is at long last coming to terms with his feelings. I love the back and forth between them and I completely love that Claire is a bit tougher in this one. It's an emotional story that's has lots of twists, turns and surprises as well as danger, the darkness we love and you can follow the changes in each of these characters throughout their journey. It's a little darker than the previous book so be sure to check the trigger warnings before you start reading. Again, it ends on a cliffhanger and it's one heckuva cliffhanger! But I wouldn't miss the next book for anything. Well done Ms. Claire!

This is the second book in the Embrace the Darkness series and whilst slightly slower in story development, it certainly doesn't lack at all! Again this book reeled me in with its darkness and constant twists in the story. For all of the wrong reasons I really like Wes and can understand why Claire is a little obsessed with him. I love the detail the author went into during all of the interactions between them. Its just on the dark side of dark and definitely hit all of the right notes for me!

I love Remi. Completely and utterly in love with him. Quite honestly, I could feel his cock in my mouth whilst reading the spicy scenes of him and Claire! I absolutely love a MMC who not only likes to go down on the FMC but seems to live for it!! Well done Carly on the spice level, you totally got me off!!!

This series is definitely a 5 star read! The cliff hanger at the end almost did me in, I can't wait for the next book to see what happens next!!!

3.5 ⭐️

This book picking up exactly where the other left off was a really good decision, in my opinion. I was worried there would be a time jump, but I'm grateful there isn't.
I love Claires character development, the fact that she is now embracing the darkness in her rather than hiding from it like she somewhat did in the first book.
Remy still isn't my favourite, I don't know why. He fully embraces Claires dark side, which I love, but he just seems very wish washy to me. He is so back and forth that it almost gives me whiplash.
I'm also getting slightly frustrated with everything else, we are not even close to finding out what Elaine's issue is, or why so many people seem to recognise Claire and act so odd towards her and who's poisoning her when that was the premise of the whole book but we don't even know and are no where near finding out. She just suspects Elaine.
I just feel like I need answers.

Carly did it again! This book picks right up where we left off in the last book and completely sucked me into Claire and Remy's world. Claire is starting to accept the darkness within and just exudes power. I loved the insight into both Claire and Remy that we didn't get in book 1 and felt that there was the perfect mix of world/character building and action. And the spice! OMG the spice! Once we get to it, it is hot, hot, hot!
The story is dark, definitely check the trigger warnings, but it's not too dark. It was just enough to create some tension and suck you in - I couldn't put it down once I started.
It did end on a cliffhanger, but it leaves you NEEDING more. I can't wait for Book 3 to come out so I can read them all straight through. This is a series that I really hope goes on for many more books!

Ok, so I currently can’t think of any words. Like any at all. I’m in this trance like state. I fúckíng loved this. The Weight of Darkness is book 2 in the series and holy crap. I can’t tell if I liked this as much as the first or if I liked it more. Remy and Claire have just had this strong hold over me since book 1. The back and forth between them and everyone else is a sight. The plot twists and the continuous development of all the characters is amazing. I love Carly’s writing style. I need more.

The Weight of Darkness has some pretty dàrk scenes so along with absolutely recommending this to everyone, I also recommend reading the TW’s first.

Thanks a lot Carly for leaving me with such a cliffhanger! Again, I loved this book much like the first.
Remy and Claire continue to have the push-pull relationship and Remy continues to try and push her away but it’s evident they are made for one another.

While Claire is now stepping into the darkness with her own feelings and emotions it’s quite interesting to see how she’s taking it in strides. I just absolutely love Claire but I
Love all the characters the same.

There is more spice in book 2 than 1 but I love the spice so there’s no issues with that for me.

I also love Rhea’a character and I hope she finds what she’s looking for and make her dreams come true with what she discusses in book 2. I guess we will have to see what happens in book 3!

The book starts out with the aftermath of the first book and the consequences from their actions during that book. It’s a complete deep dive into Claire coming into her own and learning the absolute badass she has inside of her. Learning more about Remy and why he is so morally gray is a nice addition to the storyline. I like their story and their relationship even if it is toxic as hell. The spice is top tier and while it takes a little to get to the spice once it starts it’s full burn.

Overall this is a wonderful addition to Claire and Remy’s story. I can’t wait to see what’s next for them. The cliff hanger in this book literally dropped my jaw. Can’t wait for book 3!

Loved it!!
This book picks up right away and kept me invested!!!
There were twists and turns throughout...
In addition, there was lots of feels, angst, steam and much more!!

We get a lot more relationship development in this book.
The back and forth and the spice between Claire and Remy was so hot!
We see Claire really evolve too. She starts to give into her inner darkness and become who she is meant to be.
We also learn a little more about Remy. I'm so glad too. It helped us to understand and love his character even more.

I think this was a great continuation to the series! I am so ready for book 3, especially after that cliffhanger!!

Claire found her strength in the book and I’m inlove!! 💓
Not only does she become a Phoenix and rise for the ashes but she also slays down the disgusting men in her life by wearing her new found strength and armour.

We see in many books the author builds the female up so high that she loses some of her personality traits beyond being a badass. This book does not. We see Claire battle with her new strength and learning to live within this new world/identity she has constructed for herself. To the point she spares someone who is not worthy of her breath let alone her kindness.

Overall great second instalment of this story! I cannot wait for the third part to hit us in the coming months!

This was definitely a rollercoaster and so much happened in such a short amount of time. I feel like both Remy and Claire are fooling themselves. They are both “dark and twisty” in their own ways but if they just communicated more and stopped being martyrs they would be a great couple. Overall, the ending leaves a bad taste in my mouth!! And I am hoping that Remy comes back to save her and realizes the shear stupidity of them parting ways. Sex isn’t everything in a relationship but the two of them had a very strong connection in other ways. I’m hoping they are meant to be! Definitely got smutty a few times but it makes sense in the context of the story.

This Series has me in a chokehold !!

Omg !

If you think book one is good then by god this book blows you out the water !

Remington you handsome infuriating depraved man , you have me in a chokehold.
This book had me screaming and shouting at my kindle with these two ! Remy and Claire’s relationship has grown to a whole new level. With that comes so much more they have to deal with.

The ending of this book will have you internally screaming at 3am like I have just done and needing the next one immediately

The spice is spicing in this one, Remy can give me earth shattering big O’s any day !

As always please check your TWs

This book dives deeper into the relationship of Claire and Remy and ohhhh is it spicy and just a little bit toxic! Claire starts to fully embrace that darkness and that badass but still having to deal with all the emotions that come with it. You get to understand Remy so much more in this book and understand more of why he has to stay this morally grey character. This one ends on an ever bigger cliffhanger than before!

This second book of the Embrace The Darkness series start with the afternath of the first book (highly recommand to read A Taste Of Darkness !). It start a little slower as we get to experience how Claire is dealing with the trauma from the previous book.
But quickly, the tension build again and the push and pull game between her and Remy is addictive.
It’s such a good continuation to the series. I loved it !
Now I can’t wait to read book 3, since this one also end on a cliffhanger !

This series has me in such a chokehold!
Each book so far has ended on a cliffhanger but with that being said… it isn’t very often that a stories mystery is so well put together that it keeps me guessing. I can normally see the plot twists and know what’s coming within in the first couple of chapters but Carly Claire knows how to put a story together, it is done so well. Not to mention the spice 🥵
It’s going to be hard to top these as my favorite reads of the year and Remy is for sure book boyfriend of the year. I cannot wait to see what the next book in this series brings!

I am speechless… this book sucked me into it and lead me through a rollercoaster of feelings and threw me around like whiplash. My heart was beating so fast through most of it and the ending my jaw dropped and I screamed!! I am shook by this book. Hooked by the characters and they had my undivided attention. This book should be on your TBR! ….did I mention the spice? 🥵I actually blushed in some scenes. This book is a hot dark romance with triggers, but the plot keeps you wanting me. LOVE IT. Highly recommend!

wow Remy and Claire

Remy and Claire are still trying to figure things out with each other. There’s a lot going on in this book. Still preparing for his father’s funeral and wake and trying to protect Rhea from knowing the truth about a lot of things that has happened to Claire and what Remy is truly doing. Plus, the feelings these two have for each other is off the chart but neither of them give into it and when they do it’s crazy and then they aren’t sure how to be with each other. There’s a cliff hanger so I can’t wait for the next one.

I received a copy, and I am leaving my honest review.

I love everything about this book. The twists, the turns, the whiplash from emotions. How the FMC can seem so sure and confident with herself, she is most definitely in the works of becoming an absolute bad@ss! The push and pull between her and our stunningly written MMC is drool worthy! Their toxicity is so addicting to read about. WHAT WAS THAT ENDING 🤯 This 2nd book is insanely amazing and I can't wait to for more to come! ♡

This book was a bit slower than the first but still kept me hooked.

When is Claire going to learn that clearly she cannot leave Remy without walking into trouble. *facepalm* The cliffhanger at the end of this one had me cursing out loud.
I love the chemistry between Claire and Remy. There is an intensity between the two of them that is obvious in nearly every scene.
I cannot wait for the 3rd book in this series.

As much a I love Carly Claire her cliffhangers get me every time. This story is so good from the very start since book 1 ended in a cliffhanger this picks right up. It features a dual perspective between Remington, aka Remy, and Claire. Claire is Remy's sister Rhea's best friend. We meet everyone in book 1 "Taste of Darkness". I do not want to spoil anything but this book in a wild ride from start to finish and has surprising revelations. I can not wait until book 3.

This book!!!!! Oh my goodness! This was a hot one for sure. There are many ups and downs. While you get some answers to old questions, more information unfolds which leads to more questions. I honestly cannot get enough or Remy and Claire. Definitely more spicy than the first book which (in my opinion) is amazing. The ending though, I still have a heaviness in my chest! I cannot wait to start book #3!
